Chapter 4: The Cover Up

1320 Words
Sienna never expected Dominic to embarrass her right in front of everyone, and her face went pale. She pursed her lips, looking upset and almost pitiful as she shot Dominic a resentful look, almost like accusing him of being a heartbreaker. Josh, who was furious on Sienna's behalf, didn't hold back. "You're really going this far? This is nothing less than an insult to Ms. Blake's dignity!" Dominic’s icy demeanor and sharp gaze made Josh lose it even more. He snapped, "If you can’t find any proof, you owe Ms. Blake an apology." Even though no one else spoke up, their disapproval was clear on their faces. This situation had already caught everyone’s attention in the company, with several executives gathered around. Sienna was clearly an important talent to the company, so it wasn’t surprising that people were paying attention. They also couldn’t believe that Dominic would act this way, especially considering how valuable Sienna was to the company compared to Aria, his wife, who was a known troublemaker and not much of an asset. But Aria had her own thoughts. She suspected that most of the people gathering around were only there for gossip. After all, one of the women involved was Dominic’s wife, and the other was Sienna, who had been working under him for some time despite his known indifference toward women. People were probably just curious, watching as if it were a soap opera, placing bets on who would win this battle. Aria had always been a mere spectator before, but now she found herself at the center of attention. Turns out I’m the Joker in this drama! With a resentful look, Aria could only glare at Dominic’s back. Dominic stood tall and straight, acting like he didn’t even notice Aria’s resentful gaze. In fact, he was more annoyed with her constant complaints. Has she always been like this? Soon, the results of the investigation were in, and there was no evidence of any wrongdoing. Josh asked triumphantly, "Well? Dominic, are you still going to cover for Aria?" Dominic felt the weight of Aria's angry stare, and it only seemed to add to his irritation. "Mr. Dominic, do you believe me now?" Sienna pleaded, her eyes filling with tears, looking like she could burst into tears any second. Dominic briefly glanced at his phone and then met Sienna’s eyes. The cold look in his gaze sent a shiver down her spine, and she couldn’t shake the sense that something was wrong. Everyone thought the matter was over, but to their surprise, Dominic turned toward the big screen behind him, completely ignoring Sienna. Confused, everyone followed his gaze. The screen, which had been showing the previous footage, suddenly switched to something else. The new footage started playing, and many recognized the familiar backdrop of Josh’s office entrance. On the screen, Sienna was shown entering Josh's office. A collective confusion swept over the room. What an unexpected turn! Sienna’s face, however, was the only one that changed. A chill ran down her spine, and her heart pounded in her chest as she watched herself on the screen. Josh, now completely confused, pointed at the screen. "Dominic, what the hell is this? Why are you showing surveillance footage of Ms. Blake delivering documents?" Dominic didn’t answer. He simply kept watching the video, his gaze cold and detached. Meanwhile, Gerald—who had been paying attention to the time on the footage—looked like he was having mixed feelings. His face turned as pale as a ghost when he saw his son exit the office and leave Sienna behind. Before long, Sienna left, and Josh cheerfully entered, holding a fruit platter in his hands, clearly annoyed when he found Sienna missing. Suddenly, the screen changed again, and everyone saw a recording of someone using a computer. To their surprise, the desktop wallpaper was a picture of Sienna. The room full of onlookers glanced over at Josh, and Gerald looked ready to explode. Josh was livid, stomping his feet. "Dominic, did you send someone to mess with my computer?" It was true—a technician had hacked into Josh’s computer to retrieve all the deleted email records. Just as Josh finished yelling, he noticed Sienna staggering slightly, almost losing her balance. Josh was too caught up in the moment to notice, but Gerald was fuming, barely holding his temper. People in the room seemed to start piecing things together. The air felt heavy, and the silence was so thick that you could almost hear everyone's heartbeat. Then, the email with the confidential files was restored, and the screen zoomed in at the time it was sent. People quickly compared it with the timestamp on the surveillance footage. Almost everyone understood what was going on, except for one person. Josh stared at the screen for a moment before exploding again. "You must be out of your mind! How can you make up such a video just to slander Ms. Blake and cover for Aria?" Before he could continue, Gerald, who had clearly had enough, smacked him on the back of the head. Josh lost his balance and fell to the ground, shouting, "Dad!" "Shut up!" Gerald growled, then turned to Dominic and the other executives. "You all saw it. My son had nothing to do with this! He was just used! He’s a fool!" At this point, Gerald had no choice but to throw his son under the bus. If he didn’t make it clear that Josh wasn’t involved, Josh would end up being suspected of colluding with Sienna, which would be impossible to undo. "Ms. Blake, you’re evil! You used my son and even framed Mrs. Hatcher! What did Mr. Dominic ever do to deserve this from you?" Gerald ranted, hoping to shift the attention away from the real issue. Everyone’s eyes turned to Sienna. Some looked shocked, others disbelieving, and some were just plain furious. The assistants in the CEO's office, who had been so sure of Sienna before, were now trembling with embarrassment. They had supported her just moments ago, but now, they were so ashamed that they wished they could vanish into thin air. Given Dominic’s reputation, they knew Sienna was probably about to get fired. She had just brought down the entire office. But no one dared to speak, and they all tried to shrink into the background. Sienna, on the other hand, was as pale as a ghost, breathing quickly as she trembled. Her gaze flickered toward Dominic, her voice breaking. "Dominic, I didn’t—" "Ms. Hatcher is your cousin’s wife, isn’t she?" Dominic interrupted, his voice sharp. "You colluded with her to frame Aria, didn’t you?" His words hit like a bombshell. The room went silent in shock. How does he know…? Sienna was shattered. The room was now looking at Dominic in stunned silence. No one had expected him to have figured it out. Meanwhile, Aria, who had been in a daze since the video started playing, finally snapped out of it. She had seen the whole truth unfold, but she was still surprised by how perceptive Dominic was. But it wasn’t until Bella’s name was mentioned that Aria truly realized something. Does Dominic know Bella’s identity all along? Is that why he suspected Ms. Blake? And how did Josh get involved? Gerald, too, was confused, still not understanding how his son had become mixed up in all of this. Dominic glanced at Aria, who looked as if she was putting the pieces together. He couldn’t very well admit that he figured all this out from Aria’s inner thoughts, could he? He continued, "Let’s put that aside for now. Once you’re a suspect, we’ll have to look into every piece of surveillance footage, every device you’ve used." Sienna had forgotten to delete some key surveillance footage, a mistake Aria had pointed out earlier. It was a mistake that would cost her everything.
