17 The party went on longer than I hoped. When the chalice came my way, Heath deflected it, and no one said a word about it. After all of them drank a little of the humans’ blood, the music became louder once more and the dancing and drinking resumed—and the bodies stayed there, strewn on the rugs, blood pooling around them.
