12 After a freak-out moment, I changed out of my dress and put on leggings, a thin sweater, and boots. I turned on the lamps beside the bed, turned off the overhead light, sat on my bed, and waited—my mind blank. I didn’t want to think of anything right now. As agreed, Evelyn came into my room at three in the morning. Like me, she had changed into more comfortable clothes. She sat beside me. “How are you?” “How do you think?” I glanced at her, my eyes hard. “I’m lost and confused and … I don’t even know.” “You didn’t believe them, did you?” I startled. “Why would I not? They knew her appearance, they knew about her gift.” Which I didn’t know before, but now I could see it clear in my head now.
