“And where the f**k have you been?” Cassian asked Celeste, with his hands folded, while Callix remained quiet by Vada’s side. Vada looked nervous as she watched Celeste, as they all waited for an answer. Dread crept into her system. Vada had half-truthed for her, and she had broken that. She needed to prove she hadn’t done anything wrong, but she needed to give a lie. “I couldn’t sleep, and Vada talked about the shoreline and how beautiful it was at dawn… so I walked over to see the town while everyone was asleep,” she muttered while Callix stood. “Are you sure that’s all? Because the king wasn’t so amused by the sudden message that you would be spending the night in town,” Callix asked, and she nodded.
