Joanna couldn’t go with Trevor to the country club. Selena and Christopher would call her out in a second – especially Christopher. She had to get out of this.
She shook her head. “I’ll . . . take my chances. I can meet them another time. It sounds like there is a lot on the line this time around. Too much pressure.”
He gave her a curt nod. “Now, that you mention it. It would be a lot of pressure. Especially since you . . . are not the heiress I thought you were.”
Her lips parted at the remark. “You said that didn’t matter to you.”
“It doesn’t. But . . . my family will be surprised by the . . . truth,” he said timidly. “I’ve never dated a former Amish girl before.”
“And I’m sure they have their own ideas about what type of woman you should be with,” she mumbled.
