THE ENIGMATIC ALPHA ***** It has been two weeks since I arrived from the Silver-Fang Pack to the NorthRidge Pack. At first, I didn’t understand how to behave here, or what was expected of me. The place was too clean, too warm, too peaceful compared to everything I had known. They fed me well, gave me clothes, a soft bed, and even told me to rest. Every kindness from them felt strange, like it came with a price I hadn’t been told yet. Sometimes I wondered if it was their way of preparing me—like a calm before a storm. I didn’t know if this comfort was a final mercy before whatever fate waited for me, or if this was simply how they treated new arrivals. Either way, it made me uneasy. Nothing in my life had ever been this calm. Beta Xavier already informed me that the Alpha was away on a mission and would be returning today. His voice had sounded steady, but his eyes had lingered on me for a moment too long, as if he knew that the Alpha’s arrival would change everything. I tried to erase the thought before it grew too loud in my mind. After all, the Alpha had paid for me. Paid my father. That truth sat like a stone in my chest. I sat quietly in the large room where they told me to wait. The walls were decorated with beautifully carved wooden patterns and a few old paintings of past Alphas, their faces stern and powerful. The silence pressed on me until I could hear my own heartbeat. Every sound in the hallway made me stiffen. Was he as cruel as they said? Was he truly heartless? Was he a monster? The stories I’d heard echoed in my head. That he killed without blinking. That he ruled with terror. That people trembled at the sound of his footsteps. I swallowed hard. My palms were sweaty. My body wouldn’t stay still no matter how hard I tried. I felt like a prisoner waiting to hear their sentence. Like someone about to be judged by a man they had never met. Footsteps approached—steady, slow, powerful. I held my breath. Something cold crawled up my spine as the door swung open. Three maids stepped in first, moving quietly, their expressions unreadable. Beta Xavier followed, his posture formal, his eyes lowered out of respect. Then he entered. A tall, imposing figure filled the doorway. The air in the room seemed to tighten the moment he walked in. Even in the dim light, his presence was undeniable. His broad shoulders cast a shadow on the floor, and his steps were calm but commanding, like he was used to people getting out of his way. This was him. The Alpha. Alpha Logan. My heart stuttered painfully. He stepped into the room slowly, but every step felt deliberate, controlled. His features were partly hidden in the low light, but I could see the strong shape of his face, the sharpness of his jaw, the kind of beauty that shouldn’t belong to a man people feared so much. His hazel eyes landed on me—direct, piercing, so intense that my entire body tensed. His gaze was unlike anything I’d ever felt. It was like he saw everything: my fear, my past, my bruises, my soul. The room became painfully silent. When he reached the space before me, I could hardly breathe. His presence swallowed everything else in the room. This was Alpha Logan—my new owner. A part of me wanted to look away, to hide, but another part couldn’t. His presence was icy and overwhelming, but strangely captivating. For a moment, I forgot the pain of my past. Then he leaned slightly closer, and reality slammed back into me. “She’s the Omega, Alpha Logan,” Xavier said, bowing his head. Alpha Logan’s head tilted slightly as he examined me, then he looked back at Xavier. “She’s been checked by the nurse, Alpha. She’ll be fine within the week.” He nodded once, slowly. His eyes returned to my face with that sharp, unreadable expression that made my stomach twist. He studied me like he was trying to understand something, or confirm something only he knew. “Look at me,” he said. His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried power that left no room for refusal. I kept my gaze down for a moment, hoping maybe he would look away. But when a low warning sound left him, everyone around me stiffened. I lifted my head immediately. The sunlight from the window touched his face just enough to reveal the lines of his expression. He was breathtaking, but in a way that felt unreachable, as if nothing in the world could ever soften him. There was something in his eyes—a shadow, a weight—that made my throat tight. He stepped closer and brushed a strand of my hair away from my cheek. I flinched. Not because of him—but because of what my body remembered. Every touch in my past had meant pain. His expression shifted immediately. He looked almost confused—not angry, just surprised. His fingers moved to the bruise on my neck, touching it lightly. A warmth followed the gentle contact, spreading through my skin and down my chest. No one had ever touched me with that kind of softness before. It frightened me more than anything else. His eyes darkened as he stared at the bruise. “What happened to you?” he asked, his voice cold, but not emotionless. “Her stepbrother did that, Alpha,” Xavier said. “But I’ve handled it.” Alpha Logan’s jaw didn’t clench, but something in his expression deepened. His eyes flicked to me again, studying the bruise longer than before. I couldn’t read his thoughts, and that made the air feel heavier. He straightened, still watching me. I swallowed and gathered my courage to speak, though my voice trembled. “Alpha Logan…” His eyes lifted to mine immediately, sharp and focused. Before I could continue, he spoke first. “I haven’t decided what to do with you yet,” he said. “For now, you will learn how things work here.” His voice was calm, controlled, but final. Those words settled into me like a weight. He hadn’t decided. My entire life was in the hands of a man who didn’t know what he wanted with me yet. Xavier shifted slightly, concern in his eyes, but he didn’t interrupt. I nodded slowly, unable to fight the lump rising in my throat. My father had sold me. My fate belonged to someone else. And the man standing before me—cold, powerful, unreadable—held every part of my future in his hands. Alpha Logan moved a little closer, not touching me this time, but close enough that I felt the heat of his body. “You belong to this pack now,” he said softly. I bought you for one purpose, Alpha Logan continued, his voice steady and cold. “You are here to give me an heir. That is the only reason you are useful to this pack.” My legs weakened. He took another step forward, towering over me. “When I finally see my heir,” he said, “I won’t regret exchanging my money for you.” Each word felt like a blade. Tears filled my eyes. I tried to hold them back, but they slipped free. I felt exposed and helpless. My world had changed in ways I didn’t choose. Xavier stepped forward slightly. “Alpha—” “Not now,” Logan said, still watching me. Xavier lowered his head, but before he did, he gave me a look—quiet, understanding, promising that he saw me. That I wasn’t invisible. My father’s betrayal, the Alpha’s undecided claim, and the weight of my new reality crashed over me so hard my knees weakened. My breath shook. My heart felt torn open. I tried to stay strong, but the tears kept falling. The last piece of hope I was holding onto slipped through my fingers.
