Ryland POV The first flicker of life is the twitching of her fingers. Her lacerations slowly close as our blood moves through her veins, sealing every wound. I glance around the room, searching for something to free myself. Only concrete walls stare back, a single chain hanging in the center of the room. The steel door is the only exit besides the too-small grate in the floor. A low predator growl stops my search. My eyes snap to Evelyn on the ground as her heartbeat kicks in—once, then again.
