She fastened her seat belt, started the engine and drove off, as she headed for a new chapter of her life... She packed in the driveway, picked up her certificate and headed towards the magnificent mansion in front of her which gave her a sense of home. The door swung open before she could even lift her hands to turn the door handle. “There she is” came her mother's sweet voice with a smiley face, she looked at her mom, her face like she hadn't aged at all, perfect white teeth, slender figure, Now she understood why her father would always act love sick around her mother, I mean who could resist this, holding that thought, her mum wrapped her in a bear hug. “we've been waiting for you”, as she held her hand and took her inside the house, closing the door behind them “She's back” Amelia looked up to see CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATE!!! boldly written with' a balloon banner, sumptuous meals spread across the table ,consisting of all her favourite dishes...her siblings rushed towards her with bright smiles and open arms “Congrats missy”, her elder brother Julian said “Yeah congrats little one”, her second brother Luscious i told you to stop calling me that, am 21 already, Luscious replied with a chuckle... “Is that my princess?”, her father's voice came from upstairs Amelia raised her gaze to look at her father Mr Cornor in his late forties didn't look the part Standing with a commanding presence, his well built frame giving him the loom of a much younger person, his dark styled hair with a little trace of silver in it, sharp jawline, deep brown eyes, he carried an aura around him that made people know that he built his empire with authority... but with his gaze directed towards his daughter, you could see the doting smile in his brown eyes that showed a proud father “I’m proud of you princess”, with a kiss on her forehead, Amelia smiled “Thank you Daddy” “okay enough with the speeches now, can we eat?, the aroma from the dining is killing me”.. Laughter filled the air as everyone took their seats on the table Mr Cornor at the head of the table, Mrs corner by his right side, Amelia beside her mother, Julian and Luscious at the opposite side of the table beside Mr Cornor “Let's make a toast”, Mr Cornor stood up with a raise wine glass.. She stirred beneath her duvet before lazily reaching for the phone on her bedside table. 8:18 a.m. A smile tugged at her lips. For the first time in years, she wasn’t waking up because of an assignment, an examination, or a project deadline. She was officially a graduate. Stretching her arms above her head, Amelia climbed out of bed and walked toward the balcony overlooking the beautifully landscaped gardens. The morning breeze carried the sweet scent of roses, one of her mother’s newest additions to the estate. She closed her eyes for a brief moment. It felt peaceful and refreshing. Like life had finally given her permission to breathe. After a quick shower, Amelia slipped into a pair of white linen trousers and a fitted baby blue blouse. She tied her hair into a neat ponytail before heading downstairs. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and pancakes greeted her before she reached the dining room. “Good morning,” she greeted with a cheerful smile. “There she is,” Mrs. Cornor beamed. “Our graduate finally decided to wake up.” “I deserve the extra sleep,” Amelia defended with a grin. Julian laughed. “I’ll give you that.” Mr. Cornor folded his newspaper before looking at his daughter. “So… what’s the plan now?” Amelia reached for a glass of orange juice. “Job hunting.” Her father’s eyebrow lifted. “You know there’s always a place for you at Cornor Holdings, So why Job hunt?.” “I know, Daddy.” “And?” “And I appreciate it.” She smiled warmly before continuing. “But I don’t want my first achievement after graduation to come because I’m your daughter.” Silence settled around the table. Mrs. Cornor exchanged a proud glance with her husband. Amelia continued. “I want to earn my place somewhere. I want to know I was hired because of my abilities, not because of my surname and affluence .” A slow smile spread across Mr. Cornor’s face. “That’s exactly what I hoped you’d say.” He raised his cup of hot coffee as if he was raising a toast. “Then you’ll have my full support.” Relief washed over Amelia. “Thank you.” After breakfast, back in her room, she sat on her bed with a book on one hand and a laptop. She opened her laptop and began searching graduate opportunities. One after another, she scrolled through different openings while munching on some snacks . Some required three years of experience. Others demanded qualifications far beyond what fresh graduates could offer. She sighed. “How is anyone supposed to gain experience if nobody wants to hire beginners?” She continued scrolling. Suddenly… Her fingers froze above the keyboard . Her eyes widened. STERLING CREST COMPANIES Fresh Graduate Recruitment Program Position: Business Development Associate Amelia blinked once.
