Chapter 5

1502 Words
Alpha Anthony Zahn’s POV I watched her as she walked away, feeling a tug at my heart. A part of me longed to rush after her, to hold her close and never let her go. But I knew that patience was key. I had to tread carefully, to earn her love and trust, for I couldn't bear the thought of life without her. After all, I have waited for her all my life. The search for my mate had been a long and arduous journey, and there were times when I had almost given up hope. But fate had other plans, and when I finally laid eyes on her in that pharmacy on that fateful night, I knew that she was the one I had been destined to. From that moment on, I was determined to do whatever it took to be by her side. She was my mate, the most precious gift a werewolf could receive, and I would cherish her for all eternity. There is only one problem though. She is a human and that meant, she probably has no clue about the supernatural presence around her. It will make it hard for her to accept me for who I am. Because to her, I will be a monster. A dangerous creature that she never ever had even imagined. I flinched visibly as if I had been slapped. The mere thought of her being terrified of me made my stomach churn. I don't want her to be ever afraid of me. Of who I am. My mind drifted back to the elevator encounter earlier today, and I couldn't shake the feeling that she seemed a bit flustered around me. She kept our conversation brief, almost as if she was trying to avoid prolonging it. I found myself wondering how I could break through her shyness and draw her closer to me. Did she ever feel the urge to steal glances at me, the way I couldn't seem to take my eyes off her during our meeting? It was as if my gaze had a mind of its own, constantly seeking out hers. And she didn't make it any easier, looking effortlessly beautiful without even trying. Her soft brown eyes held a careful gaze when she looked at me, and I couldn't help but notice how her eyebrows furrowed with concern as I explained the new project. The unconscious way she chewed on her lower lip while jotting down notes spoke volumes to me, stirring up a protective instinct within me. Despite the strong pull I felt, I made a conscious effort to restrain it. I couldn't help but steal glances at her throughout the entire thirty minutes, and I'm sure she must have noticed. "Alpha" I turned to look at my Beta, "Louis." I had been so engrossed with my thoughts that I didn't even notice another presence in the room until he called me out, "Did you send Anna to go after Amelia yet?" I asked him, wanting my mate to be safe at all times. Anna is the best female warrior of my pack. I had chosen her specifically to guard Amelia. It was a piece of cake for me to gather all the details about her right after bumping into her at the pharmacy. Especially when she is the only new person to recently shift to Galveston. In a matter of hours, I found out where she was staying in Galveston and from that day on, I had Anna guard her place at all times. "Yes, Alpha." He answered me right away, "Anna has been following Luna for the past few days while you were at Maxwell Pack." He added, making my stiff posture relax a little. "The Luna made a perfect choice by living in that studio unit. The place has the lowest crime rate for the time being" I was glad to hear that. I didn't even have time to check where she was living with my own eyes. Fate sure was testing me when I found my mate. I couldn't wait to get to know all about her but that was the time I had to leave my pack for one of the important meetings that was held at my neighboring pack. It was not easy to leave especially right after meeting her but I had to do so for the sake of my pack and their safety. Though, it felt like I would go mad at any moment during my entire stay at Maxwell Pack without seeing her. "Good" I said, "Make sure Anna keeps her distance. I don't want Amelia to find out someone had been following her all this time." I commanded. "Understood, Alpha," Louis bowed his head submissively. "It is a good thing she is working here, isn't it? It is as if the moon goddess brought her here," he added with a hint of joy in his voice. I felt a wave of warmth spreading over my heart. "Yes, it feels like that," I said. "Though there is one problem. To her, I am the CEO of the company she is working at. She might constantly feel uncomfortable being around me with me," I expressed my worry to Louis. I had to find a way to make her spend time with me. "Yeah, that's true but I think with time she will get used to being around you, Alpha," he reassured me. "She might not feel it yet, but I am sure that she will feel the need to be around you all the time just like how you want to be around her right now." "I hope you're right about that, Louis," I said, sitting at the edge of the table. "I presume only a few of us knows about her being the Luna for now." I know that the whole pack will be overjoyed with the news of me finding my mate but for the time being, it is the best if I don't put Amelia on spotlight yet. "Yes, Alpha. No one except for me and Anna knows about her until now," he stated. "Don't you want to tell your mother yet? She has been pestering you to find a mate for ages now." He stated while watching me uncertainty. I made a face at that. "You know how she is, Louis. Especially when it comes to humans," I reminded him. My mother is not a fan of humans. She hates them with all her heart. There is no specific reason why. She just despise them. Realisation danced across Louis's face, "It is probably for the best if she doesn't know about this yet" Louis agreed quietly, "The later she knows the better" He added under breath. "It says in her file that she had no family and she grew up in an orphanage," I started, feeling a pang in my heart as I thought about all the things that she didn't receive in her life. "Did you try to find anyone that might be related to her?" I asked, "There must be someone." "We are working on that, Alpha. It's a little hard since Luna had no friends in that orphanage and the places she studied," That caught my attention, "Why is that?" I asked, looking back at him only after Amelia had vanished from the line of my sight. He shrugged, "We don't know yet, Alpha. Luna sure had a tough childhood without friends or family," he said. I gave him a curt nod before glancing out the window from where I was to see Amelia walking on the street. My heart fluttered at the sight of her, "Seems like she is already heading home." Louis crossed the distance between us so that he could see what I was seeing too, "The Luna doesn't spend much time outdoors. She does go grocery shopping but other than that, she is always at her studio unit." That is understandable as she is new here. "I heard that she might be going out with her colleagues later," Louis added, "Emma and Claire are close to her and they had asked her to go out to look for some work clothes later," he said when I turned to look at him. "Do you have any idea where she might be going?" Louis shrugged, "I'm not so sure, but there are only a few malls in this small town." He said, "They should be going to one of those since it is a weekday" I stood up and fixed my tie, "Maybe I have some shopping to do too," I said to him before walking away from there. "Update me if you know where she is going," I called out to him before I stepped out of the room. I had to use every opportunity that I get. Heck, I had to create opportunities to be with her. I didn't even care that I might start looking like a roadside romeo while I try my best to impress her.
