The Voice

Dom takes Danny out to train. She is getting better at fighting. She can wear Dom out now which she couldn’t do before. I sometimes watch them outside the window. I am helping my father cook dinner. I have to stand on a chair to reach the stove. I am stirring the sauce as my dad cuts up onions. This feels so perfect. I want to stay here forever. Just our perfect little family. I look over at Lulu who is asleep on the floor in front of the fireplace. “Audrey?” I look up as my dad puts onions into the sauce. “Do you know if Travis is still looking for us?” He asked I shake my head even though I know he cannot see me. “I haven’t seen anything.” Danny and Dom come in to wash up before dinner. We all sit down on the couches with our plates to eat. I feel so happy here. My dad takes us to bed and reads me a story. He tucked me into bed and kissed my forehead before leaving the room. “Danny?” I whisper “What Audrey?” She asked half awake “Do you think we are safe here?” She opens her eyes and quickly sits up on her elbows. “Have you seen something?” I shake my head. “I think we are safe here. We drove pretty far. He cannot possibly want to keep hunting us that badly. Don’t worry Audrey. I will keep you safe. I promise.” I try to smile. I really hope she is right. Time passes by quickly. We have spent a few more months here. We have started to relax a little more. Danny is still training very hard. Dom and Casper are really good together. I am learning how to cook so much food. It is fun to cook with my dad. Lulu just turned a year old. We baked her a cake so she could play in it. I am sitting down folding clothes. Lulu is walking around in a walker bumping into the walls. My dad is sitting on the opposite couch folding clothes too. The fire is bright and warm which is why I get surprised when a cold breeze runs across my neck. It felt as cold as ice. I look around stunned. “Is everything ok?” My dad asked “Yeah it just got cold.” I continue to fold the clothes when another cold breeze hits my neck. This time I heard my name in the breeze. It was that man. I dropped the shirt I was folding and looked around again. “Audrey?” My dad asked. “It is that voice. I heard it call me.” I explained “The voice that told you to get me out of the dungeon.” He asked. “Yes. Who is it?” I ask a little nervously. He shakes his head “I don’t know. I suspect it might be a ghost. It is hard to say though. I know that there was mention of seers hearing spirits from the other side. I wish I had some books to read. I don’t know enough about your abilities to say forsure.” “Maybe you can go home.” I say “No! I can’t.” I can see the pain in his eyes. It makes me sad. “Why not? Don’t you miss your family?” “Right now White Crescent Pack is being watched very closely. By things both good and bad. I cannot risk going back.” “You're afraid I won’t be safe there.” “I won't put you in any danger. I have to keep you safe. One day we will go back. I will see my family and friends. They will meet you. Right now it just isn't the right time.” I nod my head. “Okay” We finish folding clothes and I am getting a stronger feeling of being watched. I can hear someone breathing behind me but when I look no one is there. I don’t know if I should feel scared. I don’t. I feel like he helped us before. He must be good. We all sat down for dinner. I take a bite of my food when I hear the voice again. The difference this time is that it is a scream. I drop the fork and look up. “Something is wrong.” They all look up at me. “What?” Dom asked while getting up to look out the windows. “The voice is calling to me again. He sounds desperate for me to hear him. I think something is wrong.” I say with a shaky voice. “Honey, if it is a spirit they can be confused sometimes. He might feel like something is wrong and just scare you for no reason.” My dad tried to reassure me but something felt wrong. I am feeling this unsettling feeling. Like before the pack was attacked and killed. “I will check the forest.” Dom walks out and Danny runs after him. They are gone for a while and I get tired. So I curl up on the couch and fall asleep. I wake up when Dom and Danny walk back in. “There isn’t anything out there. I think it is okay.” I help to clean up from dinner. We sat down with some hot chocolate and brownies. I baked the brownies all on my own. I cannot help the sense of pride. My first time baking alone. We finish dessert and sit back down on the couch for story time. There is a strange sound outside. Like a tree breaking or something. Dom stands up and looks towards the door. My father also stands up. He reaches over and grabs Lulu. “Stay here. I am going to check the forest again.” He walks toward the door. It flies open before he gets there. A loud bang echoes through the cabin. I look at Dom and see red running down his shirt. My dad yells and runs toward Dom. Another shot sounds and my dad falls to the ground. Lulu is lying under him not moving. Danny grabs my arm and I am pulled behind Danny. I grab her shirt as she takes a few steps backwards. At the same time a large man walks in. He looks terrifying. I recognize him from my dreams. This is Alpha Travis. “Danielle my darling. Didn’t you learn anything from your mother.” I peek around Danny and see four more very large men. They look scary. “Move out of the way Danielle. I will make it fast.” I start to panic. He is going to kill me too. “She is a seer. You don’t want to kill her.” Danny pleads. “A seer? A girl?” He laughs “If she could see so well then why didn’t she see this? Now move.” He commands Danny still doesn’t move. I hear a gunshot and Danny lets out a cry of pain. She falls to her knees holding her leg. I hear another gunshot and look down. My shirt is soaked in red. Why doesn’t this hurt? I don’t feel anything. I look up and everything around me seems frozen. Like a movie put on pause. My eyes fall onto a man leaning against the wall in the corner. He isn’t frozen like everyone else. His eyes are a beautiful gold and his hair is a nice warm chestnut. “I know you.” I have seen him before in my dreams. He grins at me, “I imagine you do. My name is Caiden. I grew up with your father.” He pushes off the wall and walks around the frozen people. “Alpha Caiden? Aren't you dead?” I ask “Death is only the beginning.” He stops in front of me. “You need to wake up now. Next time I warn you of something please listen. We may not always get the time to act.” I wake up to Dom and Danny walking back in. “There isn’t anything out there. I think it is okay.” “He will be here in an hour, maybe less. We need to leave.” I said getting up and going to the bedroom. I grab my suitcase and start throwing stuff in. Dom and Casper walk into my room. They stood in the doorway silent for a moment. “You saw Travis?” Dom asked I nod my head “And Caiden” My father becomes more alert. “You saw Caiden?” Dom turns around and leaves the room. We move quickly. We get the van packed with as much as we can. He started to drive away within twenty minutes. We keep driving for days and only stop for food. It has been a very long car ride. Danny doesn’t say much. She just stares out her window. When I told my dad about the vision he seemed happy. He has spent almost the entire drive talking about Caiden and him growing up. He got a little emotional with some of the stories.
