Worst Nightmare

I woke up to the sound of a blood curdling scream. I jump out of bed and peek out my door. I hear another scream and I shut the door. More screaming from different directions. I even hear screaming coming from outside my window.

I run to my dresser and spray myself with perfume. It is very earthy and is supposed to hide a scent. I have never really tested it before. I hurry to my bed and slide underneath. I hear footsteps outside my door. It opens and a pair of dirty old boots walk in. I put my hand over my mouth to muffle any sound.

The shoes walk in a small circle and leave the room. They left the door open. I wiggle out and Audrey comes running in. She has a white teddy bear crushed to her chest. Tears are flowing down her face. I grab her arms and pull her to my closet. I shove my clothes aside and lay her down.

“Danny” she whispers with tears falling down. I sprayed her with perfume. I make a shushing sound to try and calm Audrey. She is shaking like a leaf. I hear the sound of footsteps again. They are coming back to my room.

I place my hand over her mouth. Her eyes go as big as saucers. I grab a blanket off my bed and I kiss her forehead. “Whatever happens don’t come out.” She nods her head. “Promise” She nods her head again and I cover her with the blanket. I hear the footsteps getting closer. I close the closet door. I go back to the bed and wiggle underneath it again.

I may practice everyday but a twelve year old girl doesn’t stand a chance against a grown wolf. I see the boots slowly walk back in. “Come out, come out wherever you are.” He taunts me. He walks a slow circle around my room. The bed flings up. In front of me is a very large and very angry looking man. He reaches down and grabs my hair. I refuse to scream. I don't want to scare Audrey.

He starts to pull me out of my room and down the stairs. Each step makes a thud sound as my back collides with them. I try not to scream as my back is repeatedly hit. The man keeps dragging me until we get outside the house. I am thrown across the grass and I hear my dad scream my name.

I look up and see my entire family is in front of me. They all have their hands behind their backs. My dad has wounds all over his body. He took a bad beating. That isn’t easy to do. My dad is a very strong wolf. His eyes betray his fear. If my dad is afraid then this is bad. Very bad.

A man walks over to me. “You must be Danielle. You are just as beautiful as your mother.” He said with a grin. My stomach dropped at that moment. I know this man. He has dark brown eyes and black curly hair. There is a long scar that runs down this forhead and over his eye.

“Well Leah it appears that your daughter is a much better choice. She’s younger and easier to control. I can train her to be the perfect queen. That means I don’t have a need for you.” He looks me up and down. A shiver runs through my spine.

Her eyes glance over to me and her panic turns to pure terror. “Please I won't fight you. Just let my kids go. Please.” She sobbed out.

He just clicks his tongue and walks over to her. He grabs her by the hair and drags her forward. I tried to run to her but someone pulled me back. They take my wrists and tie them behind my back. My wrists burned like a fire was set to them. Silver!

He freed my mothers wrists. Two other wolves came forward and stood at her shoulders. “Now you have a choice to make. You let me have you now without fighting me. Or I take your daughter in front of you while you watch.”

My mothers eyes go to my dads. “Kids close your eyes.” My father yelled. My brothers closed theirs first. I saw the man standing over my mother rip open her shirt. Oh goddess!

“Danny close your eyes" my dad bellows and I finally close them. I can hear my mother crying. I hear them hit her multiple times. It seemed like forever until the noise stopped. I open my eyes and see my mother laying on the ground covered in blood. Her breathing is slow.

“MOM!” I screamed

Alpha Travis has a silver knife in his hand and walks over to Max. My mother starts to scream and my father tries to jump up. It takes three wolves to hold him down.

He walks behind Max. My brother is sobbing and calling for my mom. The Alpha grabs his hair and takes the knife across his neck. Blood ran down his chest. Max's body fell forward onto the ground.

The ground disappeared and a crushing weight hit my heart. I couldn’t breathe. He moved behind Brady. “Brady! I love you. It will be okay. You’ll be with the moon goddess and it is a happy place.” I rushed out.

He stops crying and tries to fake a smile. "I love you too sis."

The Alpha grabs his hair and runs the knife across his neck. Blood ran down his chest before he fell forward too.

My mother is still screaming. My father has his head down in defeat. The Alpha walks over to my mother. He slapped her causing her to fall backwards again. “Now don’t be too upset Leah. I won’t kill your daughter. I plan to make her my queen." He grabs her hair and lifts her face to his. “You know I could have given you everything.” He runs the knife down her cheek. “We could have had our own children.” The knife runs down her neck. “Why did you have to ruin it by running away from me?” He drags the knife down to her heart and slowly pushes it in.

My mother takes a sharp breath. He pulled the knife out and dropped her. She lay face up. Her breathing is shallow and rough. It takes a few seconds before her chest stops moving. When I look up I notice him walking to my dad. “Danny? Follow your dreams. Never stop. Do what you love to do.” My fathers eyes held mine. He was sending a hidden message.

“I love you daddy.” I sob out

“I love you too princess” The knife sliced through my dad's neck. He fell forward just like my brothers. They all have a pool of blood around them. Green grass that will forever be stained red.
