“You can continue now,” I added, but he didn’t speak for a moment. His eyes took me in, not hungrily but respectfully like I was something he’d been waiting for so long for but afraid to touch now that it’s here.
“Okay. Don’t move.” He finally cleared his throat and dragged his gaze back to the pad.
I made sure to stay still and for the first few minutes, there was only the scratch of his pencil. I watched him work while his brow furrowed, his eyes shuffling between my body and the paper. He looked so focused, but then I saw the way his hand suddenly slowed. His pencil began to tremble ever so slightly, and I shifted my position, just a little.
