“Who is it?” Ava’s voice rang from inside. I didn’t want to answer at first as I knew she’d get her defenses up once she heard my voice or even ask Ruby to hide. But then, I couldn’t stay dumb there since it was either I talked or I wouldn't go in.
“It’s me, Asher.” I finally let out and there was a sudden silence before a sudden noise again.
I knew exactly what was going on. Ava was hiding Ruby before she came to get the door.
The door finally opened about a minute later and Ava was standing there with an angry face which I could tell was forced.
“Why are you here, Asher? You already called, and I told you she isn’t here. What part of that didn’t you get?” She slammed at me.
“I know she’s here, Ava, so you can just drop the act already.” I chimed in while she looked in my eye
