Despite everything, the motherly instinct in me took over. I could understand what my aunt would feel if she were separated from her children. My aunt had given birth to two girls and wasn't held in high regard by my father. If she had given birth to two boys, she could have married my middle brother despite him being in prison. That way, he would have avoided the cost of a wedding, but he wouldn't waste my middle brother on someone who gave birth to girls. At least, that's how he thought. It would be difficult for my brother to have a family once he got out of prison. He probably hadn't received a light sentence, but my father didn't see it that way.
