9:00am. Wolfe Empire Headquarters.
The boardroom was full. Suits. Tension. Cameras outside.
And at the head of the table, Damian Wolfe.
I watched the livestream from my office.
My heart in my throat.
The chairman spoke. "Mr. Wolfe, given the scandal and stock drop, the board requests your resignation. Effective immediately."
Silence.
Damian stood up. Slow.
He looked directly into the camera. Like he knew I was watching.
"Five years ago, I made a choice," he said. "I chose this company over a person. And I’ve regretted it every day since."
My breath caught.
"The board is right," he continued. "Wolfe Empire needs new leadership. Someone who didn’t trade people for profit."
He placed his ID badge on the table.
"I resign."
The room exploded. Shouting. Phones ringing.
But I only heard one thing.
He chose me.
An hour later, my door opened.
No knock.
Damian.
No suit jacket. No title. Just him.
He looked lighter. And broken.
"You did it," I said.
"I did," he nodded. "Now what?"
"What do you want now, Damian?"
"To start over," he said. "With you. If you’ll let me."
I walked to him. Close enough to touch.
"You walked away from 3 billion dollars for me."
"I walked away from hell," he corrected. "For a chance at heaven."
My hand trembled when I touched his face.
"One wrong move and I’m gone," I warned.
"No wrong moves," he whispered. "Not this time."
And then he kissed me.
Not like before. Not angry. Not desperate.
Like a promise.
Outside, Wolfe stock was crashing.
Inside, something new was being built.p
‎By 9am, Wolfe Tower was a war zone.
‎
‎"YOU GAVE HER WHAT?!"
‎My father slammed his fist on the boardroom table.
‎"20% shares. Board seat. Veto power," I said calmly. "Effective today."
‎"She’ll destroy us from the inside!"
‎"She already destroyed us from the outside," I shot back. "Now she can help build it."
‎
‎The board was screaming. Lawyers were whispering.
‎And at the end of the table, Adriana sat.
‎Black suit. No expression.
‎The new Wolfe.
‎
‎"Ms. Reyes," one of the old board members sneered. "Do you even know how to run a company this size?"
‎She smiled. "I ran it into the ground last quarter. I think I can handle running it up."
‎
‎Mic drop.
‎I had to bite my lip to not laugh.
‎
‎After the meeting, I caught her in the elevator.
‎"You okay?" I asked.
‎"They hate me," she said.
‎"They hated me too, 5 years ago," I replied. "You’ll survive."
‎"Is that what you’re doing? Surviving me?"
‎"No," I said as the doors opened. "I’m trying to earn you."
‎
‎---
‎
‎*Day 3 of 30*
‎Adriana showed up with a list.
‎"First order of business: fire the CFO who leaked those photos."
‎"Done."
‎"Second: double parental leave."
‎"Done."
‎"Third: dinner. With me. No business."
‎I paused. "Done."
‎
‎She looked surprised I didn’t argue.
‎"What? I’m a man of my word," I said. "30 days."
‎
‎Dinner was quiet. Until it wasn’t.
‎"Why are you doing all this?" she asked.
‎"Because I’m tired of being the villain in your story," I said. "I want to be something else."
‎"And if in 30 days I still hate you?"
‎"Then I’ll walk away," I said. "For real this time."
‎
‎She didn’t answer. Just pushed her wine around the glass.
‎
‎*Day 7 of 30*
‎Headline: `WOLFE EMPIRE ANNOUNCES CEO TRANSITION. ADRIANA REYES JOINS BOARD.`
‎Stock dipped. Then climbed.
‎Glamour and Wolfe announced a joint charity line.
‎The internet called it "the truce collection".
‎
‎That night she texted me: _"My office. Now."_
‎
‎I found her standing in front of the wall of old Wolfe campaign photos.
‎And there we were. 5 years ago. Me, young, stupid, in love.
‎"You kept this?" she asked.
‎"I kept everything," I said.
‎
‎She turned. "Damian, if this is a PR stunt—"
‎"It’s not," I cut in. "27 more days. And I’ll prove it to you."
‎
‎She stepped closer. "And what happens on day 31?"
‎I looked at her. Really looked.
‎"Whatever you want," I said. "Fire me. Keep me. Or..."
‎"Or?"
‎"Or let me take you to dinner. Not as CEOs. As us."
‎
‎The elevator dinged. She didn’t move.
‎"Day 31," she whispered. "We’ll see."
‎
‎And she walked out.
‎Leaving me with 23 days. And a decision that could cost me everything.
