Anna had barely shut the door on her little locker prior to work when Ginny Yarrow came up behind her, saying, “Some excitement last night, huh?”
“Excitement?” Anna echoed, before squeezing past Ginnny’s wide hips as she made her way to her desk in the room beyond. Ginny trotted after Anna, her hard-soled shoes making a loud bright noise on the linoleum-tile floor.
“Out on the old county road, close to the Nemmitz place. Both ambulances were called out, not that it did any good, but to try, I guess. And it gave them a chance to try out the Jaws of Life. The women at the—”
