CHAPTER 14THE RAIN still came down, drenching the city, the wind blowing it against the buildings. Ramsey walked to the corner and looked for a taxi, but the long wide street was empty, with only the lights of a few bars and all-night restaurants glinting in the wetness. It took him twenty minutes of fast walking to reach the Gulf Hotel. He went to bed, but it was a long time before he slept, and then it was restlessly. Hours later, he came awake slowly.
