Anne sat at her desk, staring at the files in front of her. She had solved the mind control case, but now she was facing a new challenge.
Her boss, Captain Smith, had once again passed her over for promotion. And this time, it was clear why. He had promoted her male colleague, who had less experience and a weaker track record, to the coveted role of Lead Detective.
Anne knew it was because she was a woman. She had seen it before - the glass ceiling that seemed impossible to break.
She went to see Captain Smith, determined to confront him about the injustice. But, he just shrugged it off, telling her she needed to "toughen up" and "play the game".
Anne was furious. She knew she was just as good as any man in the department. But, it seemed like no one else believed it.
As she left the station, she felt a sense of despair wash over her. Was she ever going to be able to fit in, to be taken seriously, to get the recognition she deserved.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Ivy, her friend and fellow detective.
"Hey, Anne, I heard about the promotion. I'm so sorry," Ivy said.
"Thanks, Ivy. I'm just so frustrated. I feel like I'll never be able to break through the glass ceiling," Anne replied.
"I know how you feel. But, we can't give up. We have to keep pushing forward," Ivy said.
Anne nodded, even though Ivy couldn't see her. She knew Ivy was right.
Just then, Alice and Mia walked into the room. They had been working on a case together and had just closed it.
"Hey, Anne, what's wrong?" Alice asked, noticing the look on her face.
Anne filled them in on what had happened. Alice and Mia were outraged.
"That's so unfair! You're an amazing detective, Anne," Mia said.
"We need to do something about this," Alice said. "We can't let them get away with this kind of discrimination."
The four women started brainstorming, coming up with a plan to address the gender inequality in the department.
They knew it wouldn't be easy, but they were determined to make a change.
