CHAPTER 37
Michael didn’t hear the voices until he rounded the corner. Sakiko had her back to him and Sunita was glaring out to sea, but he quickly stepped back so they wouldn’t see him. It was probably the first time he’d heard Sakiko angry at anyone but him.
Sakiko kept her voice down, and the wind snatched most of the words away, but he heard “lazy” “careless” “disappointed,” along with Yuri’s name a few times. He turned around quietly and found another way topside.
As he came out on deck, he nearly ran into Yuri.
“Hey, Aquaman. Out of your cabin for business or recreation?”
“I was thinking a beer or two at our favorite hangout. You?”
“The aft deck? Absolutely, my friend. It’s always important to contemplate where we’ve been.”
Drinks in hand, they sauntered into the sunshine. The
