Circe

Andrea To say that I was excited about our date is a drastic understatement. I ran upstairs to get ready for my first date, but even better, my first date with my mate. I go pick out my outfit, and it's then that I regret my very essential closet. Did I even pack a dress? I have gifted clothes, but I left those in the underworld. I pick out my best outfit and go to the bathroom to shower. On the countertop is a beautiful light blue wrap dress with brown sandals with a note. "I designed this for you myself. -Alice" I quickly shower and blow dry my hair, makeup, or no makeup? Why am I so nervous? I feel my hands shaking as I'm trying to apply eyeliner. Does everyone feel jittery on their first date, or is it just me? We meet in Alice's garage, where Cole already has the keys to an SUV. He looks well, hot in dark jeans and a navy blue button-up. His belt and his shoes even match. I note that he knows how to dress well, and I don't. I'm sure that Alice will give me lessons. His expression changes into something that I can't figure out. Nevertheless, I assume that he is pleased. "You look beautiful in blue." "Only in blue?" Why the hell did I just ask that? I mentally facepalm myself as Cole laughs at my statement. "No, not only in blue. I'm sure you could wear a potato sack and still be absolutely stunning." "Oh, uh, thank you." Dear Moon Goddess, help me. Cole offers to drive, and I'm glad. I never got the chance to learn how to drive. "Do you know how to drive?" asks Cole as he opens the door for me. "Wow, you picked up on that quickly." "Just an observation," said Cole as he shut the door behind me. "No, I don't, actually. I never got a chance and never really needed to." "Would you like to learn?" I think about it for a bit, "I think that would be nice." He nods and starts to drive towards the nearest town. It is quiet for a while, and I'm nervous. Should I be this nervous? Why am I this tense? "Where did you learn to fight like that? You and Amber both are very skilled," Cole asks. "I didn't realize that you even caught the fight," I say while looking from the window to him. "I caught a few minutes of it before I fought your father. You're both so brutal." "Thank you? I learned a lot from my mother. Most of my training came from shifting so young to protect myself. Most Lycan guardians were separated from their wolves until they were older. I was not. I shifted young and have more experience saving my own life, I guess. My father has trained me some as well, of course." Cole's expression gets sad, "I wish I could have been there to protect you. But I know that I'm here now.". "I appreciate that. But I also know that I can take care of myself. I'm not helpless, and that is something that I'm proud of. One of the few things. I'm not a damsel in distress. I want to be your partner. " His smile widens. I'm glad he isn't intimidated; that is precisely what I need. "Noted. I've got your back, and you're more than capable of having mine.". "Exactly!" I say with a smile. "Can I hold your hand?" asks Cole. "Yes, of course." Cole grabs my hand, and he holds it while driving. We pulled into a small french town. It's nestled in green hills. The city is bustling with a farmer's market. The spring weather is cool and comfortable. We walk into a coffee shop, and I have no idea what to order. "..you don't drink coffee?" "I've had Starbucks." "Mmmm. This is better by far," said Cole. He looked like he was reading through the menu. Cole orders me something in french, confirming that he was not only reading in another language but can also speak it. And we pick out a few pastries to share. We settled into a small table next to a window. "So, how many sisters do I need to impress again?" asks Cole with a cheeky grin. I roll my eyes. "We call each other sisters, but we are technically cousins….. So there is no need to impress them. You're my mate. That should be enough for them….and there are seven of us total. "I'm not sure about that. I've gone to war with giants before..., and Amber's gaze scares the sh*t out of me. Remind me never to cross her." I laugh full out at this comment and get a few sour looks from others around us. "She is protective over all of us. She comes from the moon goddess' daughter that would have been our queen. It shows. She is more robust, faster, and more protective over us.". Cole nods, "Amber is the queen of the werewolves, got it? So what does that make you?" "I would have also been a queen over a specific region. Unfortunately, our Lycan ancestors were attacked and went into hiding. We now no longer shift into Lycans, but we still have their abilities." "That makes sense. Your ancestors hid in plain sight." "What about you? Any siblings?" I ask as I take a sip of the coffee and wince slightly at the bitterness. "No, I wish. Just me. My mother and I are close, though." "That is good. What is your mother like? I ask as I decide to try a pastry instead. "Otherworldly. Full of wisdom and the occasional bit of humor. She doesn't fit in Olympus, but I'm glad for that." "Is Olympus that bad?" Cole shakes his head, "It's worse. My cousins aren't like yours. They're spoiled and always picking fights with each other. So I go there only when forced." "...oh bummer. I've always wanted to go. Just to see the beauty of it." "I'll gladly take you with me. You'll be the one bit of sunshine there...speaking of sunshine. Is it weird to point out how much I like that about you? You've gone through so much, but you still laugh and light up a room. Honestly, it's impressive." I feel myself blushing again. "My life may have been hard, but it has made me glad to be alive. Not to mention, it has gotten better and better as I've gotten older. I have a large family now, and I'm thankful for my life now.". We finish our coffee and pastries and head outside. The sun is overhead now. I realized that we had been in that cafe for several hours. We're walking around the farmer's market and looking through the vendors. Cole buys me more flowers, and we talk about how similar and different our childhoods were. We both had to grow up too fast, but then we had at least one parent who loved us. I see a bit of red go past us… "Cole, is that you?" I look at Cole and see that he has gone pale. The question came from a beautiful woman. She has bright red hair that is braided to the right side. She has light skin and bright blue eyes. She is stunning, and I feel my wolf getting jealous. Who is this woman to Cole? "..Circe… what are you doing here?" he asks. "I'm here meeting with the Counsel of Wizards and Witches over a wizard very close to exposing us. They aren't happy with how her kind tried to handle things on their own…" she says this and jerks a thumb towards me. "Excuse me, my kind? We were protecting our own." I say; I feel my wolf on alert. "Maybe, but you did it poorly." "We did it to the best of our ability! We reached out to your kind and our counsel and were told to handle our affairs. Suddenly when it threatens you as well, we did poorly? f*ck that! I'd like to see you take on hundreds of your own dead." The witch steps back and looks me up, sizing me up. "Cole, who is she?" "Circe, this is my fiancee, Andrea." "Oh wow, Hades Son finally has settled down. She must be quite the woman."... The witch sticks out her hand and smiles. "Hi, I'm Circe. I apologize for my earlier behavior. My head hurts after dealing with hours of arguing. They should have called me in sooner. I would have helped your kind before it came to this point, but the council is old and stuck in its old ways. I'm a tracker, and I'm damn good at it. I can help if you're willing…."
