I woke up with a heavy hammering inside my skull. Intense nausea overwhelmed my senses and I forced myself to breathe, almost screaming with pain. Ugh. Why did it hurt so much? Did someone beat me up while I was asleep? I tried to move my hands but they were extremely sore. Even curling my fingers took a lot of effort. To open my eyes was an even bigger challenge. I struggled harder, and slowly, my eyelids split by a fraction. The room was filled with sunlight, but not blazingly so. It seemed to be the early hours of the morning. A few vases beside the unlatched windows held peonies that swayed with the gentle breeze. I blinked slowly. I was alone, from what I could see.
