I haven’t been out like this in a while, which was why I somehow let loose. I drank whatever was being passed my way, danced with James and Sydney, talked with whoever wanted to talk to me, and even had good conversations with Maverick. It was just like high school, the only difference was everyone had their own careers instead of worrying about a pop quiz. If you were to ask me if I’m enjoying myself, then the answer would be a heck, yeah. Being with Lucid Mantra and their wives was a whole lot of crazy. Not in a bad way, but in a really good way. In the back of your mind, you know they’re all famous, but the good thing about them is they don’t make you feel like you’re below them. They’re just great people and I kinda feel bad that I’ve been canceling them since Maverick left me. Had I known that they were going to stay grounded and normal, I would’ve made more effort to listen to their songs before judging them the way I did.
“Well, I’d love to get drunk some more, but it’s already midnight and Cinderella’s got to get home,” Jaxon said as he stood up. I raised my brows at him questioningly because I found that super odd. Back in the day, Jaxon was the party animal among the four. He was the first to get drunk and the last to get home no matter how early he had to get up to do what Jaxon Prince needed to do. “Early day tomorrow?” I genuinely asked. “You could say that. I need to take my fiance to her doctor’s appointment and then we have to find a dress for our wedding,” he answered, grinning from ear to ear. “Wedding?” I continued to ask. “Mav didn’t tell you?” Jaxon questioned and I shook my head as my brows furrowed because how and why would he tell me anything? It wasn’t like were friends, right? Were we? “Oh, well. I’m getting married this Saturday. Riley, my fiance, is also pregnant, hence the appointment. You know what, you should come.”
I looked at each and every one of them as I tried to figure out if, first, he really wanted me to come. Second, if I was confused because of the booze I’d been gulping like I was dehydrated, or third, because I couldn’t grasp the idea that all of them were settling down. “You mean come to your wedding dress shopping and doctor’s appointment?” I asked, making him chuckle. “I mean if you want to... But no. That wasn’t what I meant. I mean come to my wedding. Saturday, yeah? Maverick will give you the deets, or you guys could go together,” he meaningfully said before leaning down to kiss my cheek. It was a good thing that the lights were dim because I was definitely blushing. I was blushing not because he kissed me on the cheek or because he invited me to his wedding. I was blushing because he indirectly implied that I was going to be Maverick’s plus-one at his wedding and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that and how I felt about the Maverick Knight sitting beside me compared to the one in high school. Since I didn’t want to give it much thought, I brushed the comment off by simply saying goodbye to Jaxon.
Not even five minutes later, all four of our companions had to leave as well. Sky and James needed to get home to their son, while Maddox and Sydney had to... Well, I wasn’t really sure why they were also heading home. “So everyone’s got a curfew?” I asked Maddox. “Oh, we don’t,” he started as he put his jacket on. “No curfew, no children either. Maybe we just want to practice making one,” he sniggered as he wiggled his eyebrows. “Oh my god, Shut up!” Sydney half-reprimanded and half-giggled. “I’m so so sorry. You didn’t need to hear that. Please don’t mind what he said, he’s just such a weirdo,” Sydney said. “Your weirdo, love,” he teased as he snaked his hand around her waist. Sydney shook her head and rolled her eyes in exasperation before smiling lovingly at Maddox. Once they got all the stuff they came with, they both hugged me and Maverick, and then they were off.
“And then there were two,” Maverick stated with a smile. “Yeah,” I sighed. “Was this okay?” I asked and I wasn’t sure what he meant with his question. “Do you mean the place or something else?” I clarified. “How the night ended. You hanging out with all of us. I guess I wanted to know if this was too much.” I looked at him carefully as I tried to search for answers. “If I’m being honest, it was more than okay. I got to hang out with really famous people so...” I grinned. “Good to know. So... do you want to stay or do something else?” he asked as he rubbed the back of his neck and I was immediately brought back to the time when we were seventeen or eighteen. It was his tell-sign that he was actually nervous about something. “Uh, I’m not sure what I want to do, but it would be weird to hog the entire VIP section when there’s only the two of us. I don’t think the owner and other people who want to come up here would appreciate that.”
Maverick tilted his head as his smile grew wilder. He obviously found what I said amusing because it was written all over his disgustingly handsome face. “The owner wouldn’t mind,” he finally said. “Oh? Are you also friends with the owner of the club?” I asked before taking a sip of Appletini. “You could say that,” he smiled before taking a swig of beer. “Huh?” I questioned and this time it was my turn to tilt my head. “I - I uh, I own this club too,” he confessed and my jaw dropped because, Jesus, how many businesses does he actually have? “You what now?” I shouted because the bass of EMELINE's song, cinderella’s dead was in full blast. "I said I own this," Maverick shouted back. When I still didn't hear him, he suddenly stood and offered his hand for me to take. So I took his hand and as soon as I stood, he leaned down to the side of my head and said, "Let's go get some fresh air."
