Chapter 3 Family Drama Clinton’s hand pressed against my shoulder , his message very clear. “She’s mine and you can do absolutely nothing “ Just when I thought the explosive drama between Clinton and Marcus was over, Marcus’ girlfriend walked into the boardroom. By then, those people in the boardroom had all left, leaving just the three of us in a stressed out. His girlfriend walked over to Marcus, making Clinton stare at him as she planted an explicit kiss on him. The dynamic between the two made it all the more apparent that she and Clinton had some complicated history. “What do you think?" She said, taking Marcus' hand as he looked down at Clinton. "You think marrying this slut will make you an heir? You must be kidding." I cringed at how viciously she hurled that insult at me. But before I could dwell on her insult , Clinton had closed at a distance and cruelly held her jaw, causing her to scream in pain "You don't talk about my wife like that," he yelled in undisguised menace. Ironically, I felt an unexpected gratitude that someone stood by me, even if Clinton’s motivations were purely selfish. After 15 years of inhuman treatment by my stepfather , his defense offered a glimmer of hope something I haven’t felt in a longtime. Marcus intervened and tried to pull his girlfriend back, but Clinton threw him off with his superior strength, catching the woman in his evil-looking arms . "You're the w***e here," Clinton snapped venomously. "A woman who cheated on her boyfriend and at the same time slept with two brothers. Your opinion means nothing." With that he shoved her violently, causing her to stumble backwards into Marcus' arms. Seeing this woman humiliated made me cringe, even as I mourned the abusive method Then Clinton's warm light shone back on me, and his message was clear. With annoyance, Marcus girlfriend stood up pointing at me. I’m sure you would be feeling like a deal right? You think this stupid stunt would make you guys get all the favors from those officials? She roared You must be joking!! I would see to it that you both fail woefully. I looked at her in almost shock!! She was obviously bittered because she could read the handwriting on the wall . Clinton had the upper hand right now and it was very clear they were going to loose to him. Clinton turned his back to them, his pace had been calculated, approached the bar cart in the corner and glass mixed with the clanking of metal was the only sound made as she poured himself generous amounts of wine. When he finally spoke, his voice was dangerously soft. the composed attitude of a predator believed to be superior. "I'll give you one chance to remove your…evening company from my offices. After that, I will ask the security throw you out. Marcus shot him with a murderous glare but kept his composure. Watch your back!! He fired at Clinton With murmured assurance he ushered his trembling girlfriend out of the door. Before leaving, he couldn’t resist one last glance over his shoulder, the heat of hatred meeting mine. "You just wait, you pathetic little w***e. It's not over yet." Witnessing all these drama, I needed to go rest my head. I knew I was in a deep mess but no as bad as this. I was now involved in a family mess all because my father choose to sell me off to a wealthy. It was only after the doors were sealed behind the pair that Clinton began to recognize my presence more. Tuining on his heels, those piercing eyes bore through my flesh appraisingly as he took a sip. "Miss Valencia," he said in a dark, menacing voice, "I'm sure you noticed the complicated family situation here. You've been pulled into a dangerous situation, like stepping into a nest of snakes. I expect you to handle it skillfully, no matter what chaos it brings." His words hit me hard, making me realize I was seen as a pawn in Clinton's battle against Marcus for power. While I was temporarily safe, it was clear that any future mistakes would be punished, as long as they benefited Clinton's side. I nodded, feeling the weight of the situation sink in. No matter which side I ended up on, I knew I was in for a world of corruption and violence. Clinton approached me, his presence intimidating. His hand, though gentle on the surface, felt like it was carving into my skin, a reminder of the fear and exhaustion this power struggle brought. "Good girl," he whispered, each word carrying a hidden message of mistreatment and shame. "We need to talk about your new duties, but let's not get into that now, okay?" I couldn't even find the strength to object. I just stared at Clinton, feeling tense, as he smirked and his eyes glinted like a predator sizing up its prey. "Come on," he said, his tone losing its earlier excitement, now dripping with menace as he steered me toward the darkness ahead. I realized there was no escape from his cruelty or the twisted power games of his family. All I could expect was more suffering, a slow unraveling of everything I knew.
