Chapter 8 - So Much For All This Fun

Penelope’s POV

This morning I woke up feeling excited. Today was my birthday and I was going to spend the morning with Haley, Liam and Spencer. They have planned a fun day ahead for us. I couldn’t wait to find out where or what we would be doing. And tonight mom is bringing the four of us out for pizza and cake. I couldn’t ask for a better birthdat with the 4 best people in the world. I decided to lay in my bed for a couple more minutes and just daydream about the rest of the Summer with my friends, especially with Liam. Speaking of the devil, I received a text from him.

“Good morning beautiful! Happy birthday – I’ll see you shortly. Just waiting on Hales to finish up getting ready I brought my phone to my chest, giggled and kicked my blanket off my bed with excitement. That guy melts my heart. I brought the phone back in front of me.

“Uh Thanks babe – Im just getting up. Getting ready quickly – see you shortly xox” I got off my bed and made my way into the bathroom. I ran the water from the shower and let it run hot for a bit, got in and washed my hair and body and quickly got out wrapping a towel around me. Didn’t want to be wasting any time today. Went straight into my bedroom and put my hair up in a bun and let some hair in the front loose. I applied some mascara and eyeshadow before I made my way to my closet. The sun was out and the birds we’re chirping, I knew it was going to be a nice day. I took out my favorite tunic top and with some stylish ripped denim shorts. After I got dress I made my way downstairs and to my surprised mom was making breakfast. I could smell it all, eggs, bacon, sausages and pancakes. YUM! I walked in the kitchen. Mom and Spencer both greeted me.

“Happy Birthday!” they both yell out. I had the biggest smile on my face. Just like a kid.

“Thanks” I reply with a smile. “I thought you had surgeries today mom?” I grabbed some bacon and started devouring it. My mom is a general surgeon at our hospital. She turned around from putting some dishes in the dishwasher.

“Not today honey, I got the day off. Im going to do a bit of cleaning and then tonight taking you kids out.” Doing a circling motion on all the kids. I turned around to notice that Haley and Liam had just walked in the kitchen. They both walked towards me giving me a hug and telling me happy birthday. I finished the rest of my breakfast, chugged a full glass of orange juice. Ran back upstairs in the bathroom and quickly brushed and flossed my teeth. I started running down the stairs screaming like a maniac.

“Who’s reading for a fun day?” everyone yells back “Yes” “Im so excited for spending the day with the most important people. Im so lucky.” Added the last part with some sass. They all turned towards the door shaking their heads and smiling.

We made our way to Liam’s car and yelled out

“SHUTGUN” Spencer wasn’t impress but Liam thought it was funny. Haley and Spencer got into the car but before entering Liam and I popped our heads over the car to look at each other. I blew him a kiss and he winked at me before we both got in. I put my seatbelt on and started getting agitated.

“So…what are we doing today?” I asked with the biggest smirk on my face. Haley was the first one to reply.

“Your going to have to be patient Miss Penelope Lawson.” I looked at Spencer and then at Liam and started to pout. Giving them little puppy eyes at the same time. “Please guys!” Spencer shook his head.

“Nope! Your going to have to wait it’s a surprise.” I turned to Liam. I could definitely see him starting to cave in. After a minute passed by Liam looked at them, they we’re shaking his head to him and he brought his eyes back to me. And just like that he caved in.

“We’re bringing you to the paintball field.” I starting doing an evil laugh. Spencer and Haley weren’t impress.

“Come on dude! It was supposed to be a secret.” Haley nodded in agreement.

“Your weak Liam.” Haley added. I started to laugh and then I became serious.

“Im so excited for some VIOLENCE.” I made eye contact with all of them and blurred out “Im messing with all of you…” raised an eyebrow “…or am I?” They looked kind of scared. This was going to be so much fun. Liam back out of our driveway and drove for a good 15 minutes before we arrived at the field.

After they registered us and gave us all the equipment that we needed for our safety and to play. We decided to split into two teams. Our teams were picked quickly, we decided to do siblings against siblings. It was the perfect way to take advantage of the whole situation and have fun with it. I was going to put my whole energy into getting Liam and throwing as much paintball balloons at him. After we changed our clothes and put our equipment on we made our way to the field. Because it was a sunny day there wasn't a lot of people there, there was another group of about 8 people and it looked like they were done. That meant we would have the whole field to ourselves. I field up my pockets with paintball balloons and just like that I started running like a maniac. This is going to be so much fun.

Liam's POV

We got all of our gears on and filled up our pockets with the paintball balloons when I made eye contact with Nelly. That was probably my first mistake of the day. She glared at me and for a split second I was kind of scared for my life. We all started to walk but not Nelly. She started running into the field like a god d*mn maniac. And lucky for me she was my maniac and with the biggest grin on my face I started running towards her. Haley ran after Spencer the whole time we we’re there and he did the same. At first they we’re dodging each others paintball balloons but by the end they we’re covered. For Nelly and I, we weren’t dry for long. I let my guard down for not even a second and she ran right at me and smashed a balloon right on my head. She started laughing so hard and that’s when I caught her by surprise and through one at her. She was definitely caught off guard and just like that we through all of our paintball balloons at each other.

A good hour later we started to make our way back. I decided to rest my arm around her neck and she put her hand in the crest of my back. She looked up at me and then made contact with Spencer and Haley, she put her other hand to her chest and tilted her head.

“Thanks guys for bringing me here. This was definitely the best birthday ever.” I brought her a bit closer to me without making anything obvious to the others.

“Your welcome Penny..” Spencer started and Hailey added “You we’ll deserved it. Haley grabbed Spencer’s upper arm while walking. We’ve always been very close to each other.

“Best birthday huh?...” Nelly raised her head at me and shook it. “Even better then your birthday when we met for the first time?”

“Oh absolutely.” She stops in her tracks and turns to face me. “Who are you again?” with the biggest smirk on her face. I sign, she shouldn’t have said that. When she turned around to look at Spencer and Haley to laugh with them I got my last paintball balloon from my pocket and smashed it right onto her head. She was caught by surprise and she brought her hands up to her head. She looked up at me “YOU” I started laughing like a god d*mn hyena. She had a bit of rage in her eyes. She started fake laughing and looked right into my eyes. I knew it was my cue to run.

“Im going to f*cken k*ll you Liam!” she then started running after me. I turned around and started running backwards.

“Try catching me Penelope” we all started running and I put my gear on the counter and started running to my car. I turned around and Nelly ran into me laughing. She rubbed her head on my shirt for a few seconds. She then rested her head on my chest.

"This feels nice." she whispered and I happily agreed. We just hugged for a little bit before Spencer and Haley got to the car.

We made our way back to their house. When we arrived, Nelly ran into the backyard and she just jumped in the pool. When we saw her we did the same. The girls spend most of the afternoon floating on floaties while Spence and I splash them. It most have been close to supper because Mrs Lawson came out and asked us to go clean ourselves. Spencer and I went in the basement and took a quick shower while the girls went upstairs. Girls took a little bit longer because they decided to add a bit of make up before heading out to Italiano’s Pizzaria. We all got into Mrs Lawson SUV. Spencer sat in the front and Haley, Nelly and I sat in the back. Nelly was siting in the middle which means she was right beside me. Her hand was touching mine. It send shivers down my spine. I just wanted to grabbed her and kiss her. To my surprise I put my arm around her shoulders and she leaned in and I kissed the back of her head. Because it’s her birthday no one would expect a thing. We had finally arrived at the restaurant. We made our way in and we’re seated right away.

Penelope's POV

After being seated they took our drink orders. Shortly after they were back with them and we started by ordering appetizers. Mom got some cheese sticks, bread sticks and bruschetta bread to start with for all of us. When we got our appetizers we started eating. The food was so good. The waitress made her way back to the table and we ordered some pizzas. By the time we we’re done anything our appetizers our pizzas we’re being brought to us. We each took a slice. I was looking at my mom and for some reason it looked like she felt uncomfortable.

“Is everything okay mom?”

“Ya honey, everything is fine.” I didn’t believe her. Then she started looking at her phone.

“Mom seriously? What’s wrong?” she looked directly at me with a sad look on her face. Spencer grabbed her hand and she looked at him.

“Well honey! Your dad has been trying to call you all day…” she starts off. I really didn’t care what he had to say. The guy cheated on my mom a couple years ago and when my mom found out she kicked him out. He ended up moving in with his sl*t and she got pregnant. Now he has a family with this woman. And he only calls or texts when it's convenient for him. I pressed my lips into a thin line and shrug at her.

“Penny your going to have to give him a call eventually…”

“Why mom? He didn’t care for us when he broke this family and decided to start another one.”

“Honey, that’s not fair.”

“Oh my god mom! Are you seriously defending him?” Spencer still had his hand on mom but his other hand was on my shoulder.

“Not hear!” Spencer says. I looked around us and I see Liam and Haley being so uncomfortable. No one wants to hear about my father’s adultery. He made his bed now he’s lying in it.

“He said he tried calling and texting…”

“I blocked him!”

“He’s just trying his best.” And that was my final straw. I got up from my seat and through my napkin into my plate. I started to walk but turned around to face my mother.

“Mom! I love you but you need to stop trying to push a relationship between him and I. He cheated on you and left us. Not just you but Spencer and I. To me he’s only a sperm donor. Im walking home.” I turned around and started walking out the restaurant. After a few minutes Liam was running beside me. He grabbed me and wrapped me around his chest and just like that I started crying. He knew I didn’t like to talk about my father. He left us and started his own little family. Liam moved me a bit and wiped the tears off my face. I sniffed and rubbed my hands all over my face.

“Why did you follow me?”

“Spencer asked me to walk with you. He stayed with her mom to calm her down and I told Haley to get a ride home.”

“Thank you” once again he wrapped his arms around me and I did the same. We hugged for a few minutes before we started walking.

“I don’t want to go home. Im too upset.”

“That’s fine. What do you want to do?”

“Can we got get your car and go over to your place and just go in the guesthouse? I just want to cuddle in your arms tonight and fall asleep.” We stopped and he looked into my eyes and grabbed my cheeks and gently kissed me.

“I would love too.”

We picked up his vehicle and drove to his place. I texted my mom that I wasn’t sleeping home tonight. She was worried for me but I told her that I was fine. I told her that I was with Liam and we we’re just going to hang out and I was going to sleepover. Liam and I made our way to the bed and I laid down on my side. He curled up behind me and wrapped his arm around me and my hand went on top of his. He softly kissed the top of my head.

“Goodnight Nelly. I love you”

“Goodnight Liam. I love you too” shortly after Liam dosed off. I could hear him snoring lightly. I grabbed my phone and noticed a text from my mom.

“Im sorry honey. Happy Birthday again. Goodnight and I love you.”

“Goodnight mom! I love you too.” Before I knew it my eyes started to feel heavy and I was drifting off. I shedded one last tear but not before I softly whispered

“Happy birthday to me.”
