Difference of Opinions

Ian Wolf’s POV "You don't know how happy I am that you’re finally back home safe after weeks in the hospital," my mother says, and I grimace as the pesky nurse pushes the wheelchair. "I'm not sure how safe I can be," I mutter. Instead of going to my apartment, my parents insisted on bringing me back to their house. So, I had no choice but to agree. "You're alive and well," she insists. I scoffed. "Alive and well?" I repeated her words. "Seriously, mom? Can't you see the damn scar on my face?" "Ian!" My father’s voice echoed. "You know what, I'd prefer to go to my room." I glance over my shoulder at the woman named Brooke. "Move." I look ahead before she pushes me into the elevator they've set up in the house while I'm still in a cast. Perfect, a complete waste of space. We entered the elevator, and I could feel Brooke's discomfort. I glance at her through the reflection in the doors, she just looks to the side while wearing her hideous nurse uniform, but occasionally shoots me serious looks. I raise an eyebrow. I know my appearance makes her uncomfortable. I've taken off the bandages, and I don't want anyone else touching my face. Not even her. The doors open, and she patiently pushes me down the hallway. "The door at the end," I said, my voice was firm. "You know, I think later we could go to the garden so you can get some sunlight. It’s good for you," she suggests. "Do I pay you to ask for your opinion?" I retorted. "You're paid to attend to me while I’m still recovering so stick to that." She mutters something under her breath, something I can't understand. When I enter my room, I look around. "Leave me alone." "But..." "Leave me alone! Don't you understand? Do I have to shout every damn order for you to obey?" I looked at her intently, seeing her struggle not to say what she really thinks. I raised an eyebrow, and she left my room without a word, but slammed the door. Once alone, I allow myself to breathe. With some clumsiness, I approached the mirror beside the window overlooking the garden and carefully examined my appearance. I hate that they want me to be rude before doing what I want. Even more showing pity on me. I won't allow that. "It's time to take back my life. Veronica didn't break me, she means nothing to me now. I have loved her with all my heart but I hated her more than that." A knock on the door made me turn around. "You're persistent, aren't you? Or maybe just a pain in my ass?" The woman looks at me sternly. "You need to take your painkillers to ease the pain in your leg and back." "I don't need them," I lied. "Why? Why is it so difficult for you, Mr. Wolf?" She snaps. "I heard you were going to get married before the accident." I glared at her. "I don't owe you explanations, and I don't want your attention," I glared at her. "And if you want to keep your job, don't meddle in my life, understand?" She straightens up. "It's a shame you can't see beyond your nose." I grimace. "If you say so, now take your damn medications and get out." "Arrogant," she mutters in an almost inaudible whisper, but I still heard her. I gave her a smug smile. "The door's wide open, Miss Bennett." She took a few steps and left the painkillers on one of the dressers. "My duty is to provide you proper care. But I'm not paid to endure your rude manners." "You know what you can do," I think. Go to hell. She sighs. "Look, why don't you lie down and get some rest? I need to go downstairs and make sure the doctor's orders are followed." "Are you my nanny now?" "Think whatever you want." With that, she left, tossing her hair tied up in a ponytail. — Daylight streams through the window as the devilish nurse opens the blinds. What the hell! "It's time to get out of bed." "Screw you." "Nice wake-up call," she murmurs. It's been a few days since I've been back home, and nothing has changed. "I've brought you breakfast." She took the tray and brought it closer to me. "A good breakfast helps improve your day." I looked at her seriously. "Don't you ever get tired of being a nuisance?" She smiles. But I know she's doing her best to contain herself. Who would have thought Miss Bennett had so much patience? "No. So, endure it." I scoffed. I watched her approach the next window and opened the blinds on that side. "If you let me, I can help you shave your face." Instinctively, I touch my face and feel the stubble on my chin. I've never liked it, but I guess it's either that or seeing the damn scar on my face. All because of a damn woman. With a swipe, I throw the tray, making Brooke jump in her place. "Sir..." "You b***h!" “Mr. Wolf.” “Leave me alone.” I saw her hesitate. Damn it, Leave me alone! Get out! Brooke’s POV God give me patience, or I'll break that man's other leg! Ian Wolf is capable of testing the patience of a saint. He's bitter. Narcissistic. A downright i***t. And I could spend the day labeling the man. As a nursing intern, I've encountered all sorts of people. But this one takes the cake. His accident was horrific, and instead of being happy that he's still breathing, the man is bitter and angry with everyone. "Is everything alright with Mr. Ian?" The question came from Dolores, the housekeeper who, as she's told me, has worked with the Wolf family since before Ian was born. I have a lot to say about her boy. I sighed and approached the kitchen island. "It's so difficult trying to help someone who doesn't want to be helped." She nods, visibly affected by the man's attitude. "I know him, and I know he's an independent man," she shakes her head, "being in that situation for him is... painful." "But that doesn't give him the right to behave the way he does." She gives me a dirty look, and I bite my tongue. I need to keep this job. Damn it! I need the Wolf's paycheck. My student loans are breathing down my neck, and the rent for my apartment doesn't pay itself. I'm broke, and I need to keep this job. My boss, Dr. Stanley, was very clear. The Wolfs are an important family. Mess up and they'll fire me, then I'll be lost because I'll have to find a new place to do my rotations and officially become a nurse. Yes, there are people like me who weren't born with a silver spoon like Ian Wolf. And, the more money they have, the worse they behave. "Brooke?" I straighten up and see Mrs. Wolf enter the kitchen. The woman is simply sublime and elegant. Plus, she cares about her son. "Ma'am?" "Has Ian taken his medication yet?" I avoid making a face. "Mr. Wolf kicked me out of his room," I glanced at Dolores, feeling somewhat embarrassed, "and threw his breakfast." "I'll send one of the girls to clean up," she mutters as she walks away. I look at Ian's mother. "Mrs. Wolf, I'm sorry this is so difficult for you and your family." "You don't have to say it. The press won't stop asking about the reason for the wedding cancellation, about the accident, and how worried our clients are about the CEO's absence from the company," she pauses for a few seconds before continuing, "not to mention that Ian is determined to go back to his apartment, which is not suitable." "I'm sorry for what you're going through, and I can only comment on the last part. Mr. Wolf needs help. And I don't mean his injuries." "I know. And we'll take care of it." She gives me a friendly smile. "Thank you for your help." "I'm just trying to do my job, Mrs. Wolf." I approached the pantry, took the medications again, and put them on a small tray, pouring water into a glass before returning to Wolf's room. Mrs. Wolf's words leave me pensive. The man had his accident on his wedding day, and judging by the commotion in the room when he woke up, I must assume there was no wedding for a good reason. I entered the room and found one of the housemaids finishing cleaning up the mess while Ian was sitting in the wheelchair, staring out the window, ignoring everything around him. How can he be so indifferent? "I brought your medication, the ones you threw with breakfast." I left the small tray on the nightstand and looked at him but he ignored me. I glance sideways at the girl who hurries to finish and leaves without barely saying anything. "Does it make you happy?" He looks at me, not understanding what I said. "Tell me, does being so ill-tempered make you happy?" He locks his dark eyes on me. "It would make me happy if you shut up." Arrogant bastard. "Mr. Wolf." "You're a pain in my side, don't you understand that I want nothing from anyone?" "You should think about your family, your friends... your girlfriend." "She's not my girlfriend!" He snaps in a gruff tone then he moves his wheelchair, and if I don't step back, he'll crush my toes. "Don't mention that damn woman in my presence again." "I'm sorry." "You're not sorry, because you don't know a damn thing," he laughs cynically and grimaces in pain when his facial wound pulls up. "My parents are fine, I'm not a damn kid. As for my friends. They're only friends when it suits them, like everything in this life. Have you seen any of them come here?" "Maybe they're giving you time to recover." "Don't be stupid. They just don't want to see my deformed face." "I'm sure with surgery, it could improve." "And why would I want to do that? To be attractive to a gold-digger woman? Women who end up being damn bitches." Wow! This man oozes contempt with every word that comes out of his mouth. "There are good women..." "Please," he interrupts me. "Tell me, name me the first woman who doesn't want something in return for giving her body, her time." He raises an eyebrow. "Are you defining a girlfriend or a prostitute?" "What a moron." "The difference, Mr. Wolf, is that women of that kind perhaps only approach men like you because you behave like a monster, I'm not talking about your face." I see him take a deep breath and I could swear smoke comes out of his nose. "You're fired." "Excuse me?" "You heard it right, get out of this house." "I just answered your question," I tried to speak but he won't let me. "I don't want a woman near me, I'll deal with other healthcare staff." I opened my eyes in disbelief. "You're kicking me out because I'm a woman." It's not a question. "I'm kicking you out because I feel like it! I'm going to call your boss and ask for a replacement... right now!" Damn! He can't do that, it would harm me. He looks at me up and down. "I don't care, you're nobody. Now leave or I'll have you thrown out." Tears filled my eyes at the injustice that this despicable man is committing. But I don't give him the satisfaction of seeing me shed them. "As you wish," I whispered. "I hope you can improve. Also, I hope not to see you again," I took a deep breath, "And I hope you can stop being a complete asshole." With that, I walk away without cursing Ian Wolf. Selene tries to persuade her son, but nothing changes his mind and I'm not going to beg. As much as I need the job, I know doing so would be a waste of time. In just a matter of time, I gathered my belongings and left the Wolf mansion. Selene was kind enough to provide me with her driver. When I said goodbye to her, she was embarrassed by the absurd situation her son had caused. My phone rings when I'm barely halfway through the journey. I looked at the screen and saw it's my boss. "Yes?" "Ian Wolf called me complaining about you." "There were differences of opinion." I'm dying to tell him that Wolf is an i***t, but I don't think it will help at this moment. "Brooke," he scolds me, "Our patients are the priority, did you forget that?" "But..." "But nothing. You messed with a Wolf, the man knows the hospital's board members. You know I have to fire you before it becomes a scandal." The oppression in my chest threatens to suffocate me. "It's not fair." "Life isn't fair." "I'm going to sue you for unjust dismissal." "Don't do that, you won't come out well. Besides, remember you have to finish your internships and pay off your loans, I can give you a recommendation letter." "That's blackmail." He clicks his tongue. "It is negotiating." I didn't respond, instead, I hung up and threw my phone into my bag. "I hate him!" I said without caring if he heard me. Ian Wolf, I hope not to see you again for the rest of my life! I looked out at the car window and wiped away my tears. And now what?
