I stood there for a moment after speaking, watching Vaughn carefully. His expression didn’t change immediately, but I could see it in his eyes. That confidence he always had when he thought every f*****g thing would go his way was no longer there.

He let out a short laugh, like I had just said something amusing instead of something final. “You’re still upset,” he said, his tone almost patient. “I’ll give you time to calm down.”
I didn’t respond. There was nothing to respond to. He was still seeing things the way he wanted, twisting everything into something convenient for himself.
