I held onto her a little longer than usual.
Liora didn’t complain. She just settled into me like she always did, small arms around me and I kept my hand in her hair, smoothing it down slowly, like if I stopped touching her she might disappear.
“You’re squeezing me, mama,” she mumbled softly, but she didn’t pull away.
“Sorry,” I said, loosening my hold just a little, but not completely. She leaned back enough to look at me, her brows slightly furrowed like she was trying to figure me out.
“You sure you’re okay momma?” she asked again.
“I’m fine,” I repeated, softer this time.
She stared at me for another second, then nodded like she was choosing to believe me, even if she wasn’t completely convinced.
“Okay,” she said simply.
