For a second, I just stared at him.
Smoke kept pouring out from the back of the house, making everything look blurry and distorted, but even through all of that I recognized Leone immediately.
He was walking toward us alone.
Blood covered one side of his shirt and there was more smeared along his jaw like he had wiped his face with bloody hands at some point. His gun still hung loosely in his hand while his steps stayed steady enough to make it obvious he was forcing himself not to slow down.
My chest tightened so hard it hurt.
“Leone…”
I started moving before I even realized it.
Marshall grabbed my arm quickly.
“Wait.”
I turned toward him immediately. “Move.”
“He could still have people behind him.”
“I don’t care.”
