Nyxa~
I stood there for a moment after speaking, watching Vaughn carefully. His expression didn’t change immediately, but I could see it in his eyes. That confidence he always had when he thought every f*****g thing would go his way was no longer there.
Good.
He let out a short laugh, like I had just said something amusing instead of something final. “You’re still upset,” he said, his tone almost patient. “I’ll give you time to calm down.”
I didn’t respond. There was nothing to respond to. He was still seeing things the way he wanted, twisting everything into something convenient for himself.
Leone stepped forward slightly, his presence more noticeable now. Vaughn’s attention shifted to him, his gaze sharp as he took him in properly for the first time.
“And you are?” Vaughn asked.
“Someone who won’t let you touch her again,” Leone replied calmly.
I glanced at him briefly before looking back at Vaughn. “I can handle this,” I said. I didn’t need anyone speaking for me. I had been handling everything on my own for years, and this wasn’t any different.
Vaughn’s eyes moved between us, his expression slowly hardening as he came to his own conclusion. “So this is what this is about?” he said. “You found someone else and suddenly you think you can walk away?”
I almost sighed. That was the easiest explanation for him. Something simple that didn’t require him to actually look at himself.
“You’re not that important,” I said calmly. “This isn’t about you.”
That must have upset him a lot. I could see it in the way his jaw tightened slightly, in the way his posture changed.
“Be careful what you say, Nyxa,” he replied, his voice lower now.
“Or what?” I asked, meeting his gaze. “You’ll hit me again?”
The room went quiet for a moment. Even Leone didn’t speak this time.
Vaughn didn’t answer immediately. He just looked at me, and for once, he didn’t have something ready to say. That alone told me enough.
I picked up my bag and adjusted it on my shoulder. I had already taken what I needed. There was nothing else here for me.
“I’ll be out before your two days are up,” I added.
His gaze followed me, his expression unreadable now. “You really think this is over?”
I paused for a brief moment and looked at him properly.
“Yes,” I said.
Because it was.
Whether he accepted it or not didn’t matter anymore. I turned and walked toward the door without waiting for anything else. Leone followed beside me, and neither of us spoke as we stepped out of the house.
We walked toward the car in silence, and it wasn’t uncomfortable. I didn’t feel the need to fill it with words. My mind was already full.
“You handled that well,” Leone said after a while.
“I didn’t do anything,” I replied. “I just said what needed to be said.”
He glanced at me briefly. “That’s more than most people manage.”
I didn’t respond. I didn’t need to.
We reached the car, and I rested my hand lightly against the door, pausing for a moment. Everything felt like it was moving too fast and too slow at the same time. Leaving should have felt easier, but it didn’t. Not completely.
“What are you going to do now?” he asked.
I thought about that for a second. For the first time in a long while, the answer didn’t depend on anyone else. Not on Vaughn, not on my father, not on expectations that had been forced on me.
“I’ll figure it out,” I said.
He nodded, accepting that without pushing further.
“And the treatment?” he asked after a moment.
I let out a small breath. “I said I’ll think about it.”
“Just don’t take too long,” he replied.
I gave a slight nod, even though I still didn’t have a clear answer.
He opened the car door for me, and I got in. The drive away from the mansion was quiet, and this time, I didn’t look back. I didn’t feel the need to. There was nothing there for me anymore.

The hotel room was quiet when I got in. Too quiet, but not in the same suffocating way as before. I dropped my bag by the side and sat on the edge of the bed, letting out a slow breath as everything caught up with me. The house, the confrontation, the look on Vaughn’s face… it all replayed in my head, but it didn’t hit the way it used to.
Maybe I was too tired.
Or maybe I was finally done. My hand moved to my stomach without thinking.
The baby. For a moment, I just sat there, my fingers pressing lightly against the fabric of my shirt as my chest tightened.
“I’m sorry…” I whispered under my breath, not even sure who I was saying it to.
The room stayed silent.
I let out a shaky breath and pulled my hand away, forcing myself to stand up. I couldn’t stay in that space for too long. Not now.
I walked over to the window, staring out at the city lights, trying to focus on something else, anything else.
Then my phone caught my attention.
I stared at it for a few seconds before picking it up. There was one person I wanted to call, one person who didn’t complicate things, who didn’t make everything feel heavier than it already was.
I dialed his number before I could change my mind.
He picked up almost immediately.
“Tell me you're calling to say you changed your mind already,” Leone said.
I let out a small breath, something in me easing slightly at the sound of his voice. “No. I just got here and I've thought about it.”
There was a brief pause.
“And?” he asked.
“I'm going to do it,” I replied.
“Good,” he said after a moment. “Where are you again? ”
“At a hotel.”
“Stay there,” he said. “I’ll come get you.”
I almost smiled. “Tomorrow. Not tonight.”
There was a short pause before he responded. “Alright. Tomorrow.”
I ended the call and lowered the phone slowly, staring at it for a moment before setting it down. I was going to see if I had a chance before I damned myself to hell.
