I said no
Leone~ “I said no.” I could feel the tiny little pieces of my heart breaking when she refused my offer to pick her up but what was I expecting? It was Nyxa. By the time I left her office, I already knew I wasn’t going back to mine. I should have. There were emails I hadn’t answered, calls I hadn’t returned, and at least three people on my board who were probably wondering if I still worked there or if I had quietly disappeared and left them to deal with everything. Normally, I would’ve cared. Today, I didn’t. Because Nyxa said yes. It wasn’t even a big yes. She didn’t smile when she said it, didn’t make it sound like she wanted to go, and definitely didn’t make it easy for me. But she agreed, and that was enough. Still, something about the way she answered that call stayed with me.
