The man stepped out of the shadows with slow, measured confidence.
He appeared to be in his early forties, dressed in a charcoal-gray overcoat despite the warmth of the underground chamber. His face was calm, but his sharp eyes missed nothing.
Damien instinctively moved in front of Ariana.
"Who are you?"
The stranger smiled faintly.
"My name is Nathan Vale."
"I was a friend of your father."
Eleanor Ashcroft's expression hardened.
"No," she said quietly. "You were his student."
Nathan lowered his head.
"He taught me many things."
"And he trusted you," Eleanor continued.
"Until you disappeared."
Silence filled the archive.
Lucas discreetly slipped a small recorder into his jacket pocket and activated it.
