The safe house in the Swiss Alps had become a war room.
Maps covered the walls. Documents were stacked on every surface. Laptops hummed with encrypted data streams. The team had grown—Cecilia had brought two researchers, Norman had recruited a former Foundation IT specialist, and Victor had contacted old allies who'd been waiting for a chance to strike back.
Michael stood at the head of the table, studying the intelligence they'd gathered over the past three days. The exposé had done its damage. The Foundation was reeling. Several of their key operatives had been arrested. Financial accounts had been frozen. Governments around the world were launching investigations.
But the Foundation's leadership remained at large. And Regan was still out there.
"The good news," Michael said, "is that the Foundation is fractured. They're scrambling to contain the damage. Their Phase Two operation is in shambles."
"What about the leadership?" Freddy asked. "The inner circle. We have names, but we don't have locations."
Norman stepped forward. "I've been working on that. The flash drive has communication logs. Encrypted messages. I've been able to trace some of them to specific locations."
"Give me something concrete."
Norman pulled up a map on the main screen. Several red dots appeared, scattered across Europe.
"These are the locations where the inner circle has been communicating from. Most of them are decoys. But three of them are real."
Michael studied the map. "Where?"
"London, Paris, and Moscow. Each city has a Foundation safe house. Each one is being used by a member of the inner circle."
Michael nodded slowly. "We hit all three."
"That's insane," Freddy said. "Three cities. Three targets. We don't have the manpower for that."
"Then we get more manpower."
"From where? We're a handful of people against a global conspiracy."
Michael met his gaze. "We're not alone anymore. The exposé has brought others out of hiding. People who've been waiting for a chance to fight back."
Cecilia stepped forward. "I've been in contact with several sources. Former Foundation operatives. Journalists. Whistleblowers. They're ready to help."
"Then we organize them. We hit all three targets simultaneously. We capture the inner circle. We end this."
---
The planning took another week.
Michael worked tirelessly, coordinating with allies across Europe. Freddy took charge of the London operation. Victor and Norman handled Paris. Michael would lead the Moscow assault himself.
Clarice was his second-in-command. She'd proven herself time and again, and Michael trusted her with his life. She'd become more than just his niece—she was his partner, his confidant, his equal.
"Are you sure about this?" Clarice asked, as they reviewed the Moscow plans. "This is the most dangerous operation yet."
"I'm sure. The Foundation's leadership is in those three cities. If we capture them, we can dismantle the organization from the top."
"And Regan? What if she's in Moscow?"
Michael was silent for a moment. Then he said, "Then I'll deal with her."
---
The night of the operation, Michael stood in the briefing room, addressing the assembled team.
"This is it," he said. "We've been fighting the Foundation for weeks. We've lost friends. We've nearly died. But tonight, we take the fight to them."
He went over the plans one final time. London, Paris, and Moscow. Simultaneous strikes. Capture, not kill. They needed the inner circle alive to testify against the Foundation.
"Any questions?" Michael asked.
Silence.
"Then let's move."
---
The flight to Moscow took three hours.
Michael sat in the back of the plane, his eyes closed, his mind focused. Clarice was beside him, reviewing the schematics of the safe house. Victor and Norman were on separate flights, heading to Paris and London.
The plane landed at a private airstrip outside Moscow. Michael and his team disembarked, moving through the darkness toward their target.
The safe house was a large mansion on the outskirts of the city. Surrounded by high walls and armed guards. It looked like a fortress.
Michael studied the building through a pair of night-vision binoculars. "There are at least twenty guards on the perimeter. More inside. We need to move fast."
Clarice nodded. "The team is in position. We're ready."
Michael checked his weapon. "Then let's go."
---
The assault was swift and brutal.
Michael's team breached the perimeter, taking out the guards with silenced weapons. They moved through the mansion, room by room, clearing each floor.
They reached the main study on the second floor. Michael kicked the door open, his weapon raised.
A man sat behind a large desk, his hands raised. He was in his sixties, with gray hair and cold, calculating eyes.
"Don't shoot," the man said. "I surrender."
Michael recognized him from the flash drive. "Karlsson. Head of the Foundation's European operations."
"You know who I am. Then you know I can't give you anything. I'm a dead man either way."
"You can give us information. Names. Locations. Plans."
"And in exchange?"
"In exchange, I'll make sure you live to see a trial."
Karlsson laughed. "A trial? You think the world is ready to see what the Foundation has built? You think they'll believe you?"
"They'll believe the evidence."
"And what evidence is that?"
Michael pulled out a recording device. "This. Everything you say from now on is being recorded. It will be used in court."
Karlsson stared at him, his expression unreadable. Then he nodded slowly. "Fine. I'll talk. But you need to understand something. The Foundation is bigger than you know. Bigger than anyone knows. You've only scratched the surface."
Michael leaned forward. "Tell me."
"The Gideon Protocol is just the beginning. There are other projects. Other plans. Other leaders. You can't stop them all."
"Then we'll try."
Karlsson was silent for a moment. Then he began to talk.
---
The debriefing took three hours.
Karlsson provided detailed information about the Foundation's operations. Financial networks. Political connections. Military assets. It was a treasure trove of intelligence.
But it also revealed something disturbing.
The Foundation's leadership was larger than Michael had realized. The inner circle he'd identified was just one layer. Above them was another layer. And above that, another.
"We've barely scratched the surface," Clarice said, her voice hollow. "There are thousands of them. Tens of thousands."
"Then we keep fighting," Michael said. "We expose them one by one. We bring them all down."
"How? We're just a handful of people."
Michael met her gaze. "We're not alone anymore. The exposé has brought others out of hiding. We're building a network. An army."
"You think that's enough?"
"I think it's a start."
---
They returned to the safe house in the Alps the following day.
The London and Paris operations had been successful. Victor and Norman had captured their targets. The Foundation's inner circle was in custody.
But the war was far from over.
Michael stood at the window, staring out at the mountains. The sun was setting, painting the peaks in shades of orange and red. It was beautiful. Peaceful.
But he knew it wouldn't last.
"The Foundation is fractured," he said, as Clarice joined him. "But they're not defeated. They'll regroup. They'll strike back."
"Then we'll be ready."
"We need to find Regan. She's the key to everything. She knows the leaders. She knows the plans. If we can capture her, we can dismantle the entire organization."
Clarice was silent for a moment. Then she said, "I've been tracking her. She's been using encrypted channels to communicate with her allies. I think I've found a pattern."
Michael turned to her. "Where is she?"
"I don't know yet. But I'm close. Give me a few more days."
"Take your time. We need to be sure."
---
The days passed. The team worked tirelessly, analyzing the intelligence from the captured leaders. They'd gained a wealth of information, but they'd also gained a new understanding of the Foundation's true power.
The organization was vast. Almost unimaginably so. It had infiltrated governments, corporations, and military forces around the world. Its reach was global. Its power was absolute.
But it wasn't invincible.
Michael sat in the briefing room, studying the intelligence they'd gathered. Clarice appeared in the doorway, her face pale.
"I found her," she said. "Regan. She's in London."
Michael looked up. "London?"
"She's been hiding there. Under a false identity. But I traced her communications to a safe house in the city."
Michael stood. "Then we go to London. We capture her. We end this."
"Michael, it's not that simple. She knows we're coming. She's prepared for us."
"Then we prepare for her."
He gathered the team. The operation was planned for the following night.
London. The final battle.
It was time to end this.
