Chapter 2–First encounter

JAXON POV My world changed after the death of my mother. She got caught in an unexpected event. And I got to understand “that Power is only a passageway to death.” For nothing can save one from their fate. I blamed my father…. “He caused this, I will never forgive him” I stopped caring about how to fit the role of an Alpha. I never cared about responsibility. In fact I detest that word. But my father, Alpha Darius always thought it was just a phase but little did he know. I meant it. Zuri, dear where are you?” Pacing round the room. Her voice answered faintly from the poolside. “I’m here, Jaxon!” Loosening my shoulders as I stepped outside. “I’m going out tonight,”. I am having a small gathering with friends, but I'll be back by midnight. So I want you to leave my window open by eleven. If Dad returns early, alert me with the moonstone. “ I have heard. Don’t worry.” Zuri, my little sister, was like my ‘mini PA’ always covering up my reckless behaviors in front of Dad. Then, I left. There was a loud cheer, when I arrived. “The hottest guy in the Moonshadow pack is here!” My friends were by the bear pump stand. As I went to meet them, girls watched me from across the room. My friends made a bet, whoever kissed the most girls tonight would win Jonah’s father’s yacht for a week while the loser would walk around school tomorrow in only boxers with a sign reading ‘I Am A Dickhead’. I accepted the challenge only half-heartedly. My thoughts suddenly moved to Avery. Stunning, self-assured Avery, who had been eyeing me all night. She will be my first play thing. I was walking towards her when my moonstone vibrated. It was a call from Zuri claiming that Dad was home. After murmuring a frustrated apology to my friends, I slipped out the back, shifting mid-stride I sprinted through the woods, I reached my house, thankfully the window was open. I climbed in, threw myself under my blanket, and forced my body to still. My father came into my room to check if I was around thank fully I was because earlier that day he warned me that he would seize my things if I didn't come home by eleven. The next day, I walked around with the signpost. Every girl in school was drooling at me. Jonah won the bet of course. He knew how important his Father's yacht was and he had no plan of annoying his father. The news of my tardiness got to my Father's ear. I got home only to find my things disarranged and scattered. My father must have heard the news and crashed out in my room, I thought. He seized my car keys and everything I held tightly. I know I didn't behave well but Dad shouldn't have taken my things. I walked up to a man furious from something I did. His eyes filled with so much rage. I kept shut to avoid any more drama. Only to hear him go on and on about what a disgrace I am to our family and how he wants me to be a strong leader not going about wasting my life. My father called me one evening, telling me to get everyone to move to the square. I was aware that the reason for the gathering was for the retrieval of the “Red Stone” from the tomb of valor. The “red stone” was like a symbol of hope in the moonshadow pack. It also serves as a peace treaty with other packs including the Crescent Pack. And as the Alpha’s son despite my recent misbehaviours. I was expected to join in the retrieval. The stone was also to be taken to the various packs as an alliance would be formed with it. My father appointed four of his brave men to join him in the cause. I glanced at Zuri. My sister. She made her intentions known to father that she wanted to join in the cause. My sister always felt like we left her behind in a lot of important tasks for the pack's well being. She always bore the burden of covering up for me in father's presence. So I had to pitch in for her to tag along assuring father that I will protect her. She smirked, “thanks Jaxon”. My pleasure. “Ready” I asked. “As I'll ever be. Just don't get lost”. Zuri replied. Father instructed his most trusted Beta to look out for the pack while we joined him for the hunt. The seven of us , father included, moved like shadows under the moonlight, paws silent against the grass and rocks. We moved quickly. This was my first time leaving the pack and I could hear the drums of my heart beating from the thrill of the moment. There it was the “tomb of valor”. Suddenly…. A blow of wind containing sand was struck on our faces. Ridgewalkers ambushed us. They gave a scary growl. Their shadows lurking at every corner. Their eyes glowing brightly in the midst of the darkness. My father had instructed us, “Stand your ground, Protect the stone and each other at all costs”. I moved towards the Alpha trying to take the stone from him. And with the little courage I attacked him at his weakest point. Throwing him off balance at every chance I got. A technique I learnt from my father during our sparring matches. My strength, instinct and focus converged. “Victory was ours”. “So we thought”? After the last of the Ridgewalker fled, the pack was silent, catching their breath. I cradled the Stone in my hands, the weight heavier than any sort of stone I had carried before. “Jaxon, do you have the stone?”. Yes, Father. On our arrival to the Crescent Pack, we were welcomed. Everyone was waiting as though they anticipated our coming. I handed the stone to my father. A feast was thrown for our safe arrival.I couldn’t stop thinking about the chaos that had almost consumed us. I was still trembling from the fight we had and to forget what had taken place earlier that day. I went on drinking it off, enjoying the attention of the Crescent Pack girls without care and allowing myself to be distracted from the terror I faced. I moved across the hall to get some drinks when I hit someone mistakenly . “ Sorry I didn't see you”. She turned to me. Watch where you are going stranger, she said rudely. I was surprised by her attitude. I met up with some guys who told me that she was called the Alpha's daughter and she was called the “Ice Princess” due to her unapproachable nature. I leaned by the window observing her, I was attracted to her, alluring green eyes, succulent lips and a mouth-watering curve. I felt an connection with her as my wolf growled everytime I saw her sipping her drink. She looked as though she was forced to come for the party, not smiling and definitely not socializing. We shared eye contact for a split second with her cold glare meeting my amused smirk. I felt a very strong connection with her. I was pulled in and for the first time, I understood what it meant to want someone so much that your wolf growls from within every second you see them. The tension we had was not how I felt with other girls, rather it was something very different, something special and although I brushed it off, a part of me still wanted to explore it. Meanwhile, in the midst of the celebration, My father, Alpha Darius “Alpha of the Moonshadow Pack”, was surrounded and immediately arrested as ordered. by Alpha Bolton “Alpha of the Crescent Pack”. The other wolves from my pack including Zuri and I were taken in as prisoners. The day ended in a shocking manner at the arrest of my father. And he was asked to stand trial the next day.
