Chapter 4

Lana A few days later, I instructed Maria. “Please bring a triple portion of food to the guards to thank them for taking good care of me.” And she nodded with a smile. The guards eagerly accepted the food, not realizing that I put in sleeping pills then I planned to feed them until they were too drowsy to stay awake and alert. Then I quickly sent Maria to help me get a certain kind of pear fruit that only grows at the edge of the pack, that was to make sure that Maria stayed away for long enough for me to sneak out and see my mate. I knew that if I saw Zander, I would be able to convince him to visit me more often and let me have my freedom. After I heard the guards snoring, I snuck out of the door, and rushed down stairs. That’s when I realized that Zander’s pack house was huge! That was why Maria called it a palace. It was the biggest mansion I had ever seen! It was a struggle to avoid the guards from seeing and recognizing me as I searched the place. I looked around for an hour, desperately searching for Zander but to my disappointment, I couldn’t find him. I was considering just giving up and going back to my room when I turned around a corner and bumped into a very tall man with a very solid, very familiar chest. I looked up and gasped loudly. “Zander! I found you!” I almost couldn’t believe my eyes. I was so happy that I just held him in his arms and wrapped my hands around him. “I’m so happy you’re here! Where have you been? Why haven’t you come to see me? Why can’t I visit you?” I asked all at once. Zander, who I remember being warm and gentle with me, suddenly grabbed my arm and shoved me away from him hard enough that I slammed my back against the wall. I was so shocked by his reaction and it took me a minute to realize that he was glaring at me with a cold, unwelcome expression. “What are you doing out here Omega?” He sneered. “Didn’t I give clear instructions that you were to never leave your room until I say so?!” He growled in anger while I gaped at him. “Zander, I don’t understand, why are you talking like this? This isn’t how you treated me that night—“ I protested but he snarled at me. “Don’t ever mention that night again! That night was a huge mistake and I regret it very much. I was weak and my wolf had taken control of my body that night. Don’t think there’s anything special between us. I’m an Alpha and the moon goddess has decided to play a prank by giving me a pathetic f*****g Omega as my mate. That’s all.” He sneered, looking at me with obvious disgust. His words felt like a slap in my face. I should have known that it was too good to be true. All his promise to take care of me, he never meant them. Tears filled my eyes as I looked at him. “So everything was a lie, you for me, telling me I was special, your wolf just wanted to sleep with me right?” I accused, tears pouring down my eyes now. But to my surprise, Zander shook his head. “It wasn’t all a lie. You are special, you are my mate and I am prepared to take care of you, but only if you do something for me in return .” He said and curiosity bloomed within me. “What do you want me to do?” I asked, very eager to please him. To be honest, I would do anything and everything he ever asks if he would just accept me and love me. I knew it was pathetic, but I had no one else in the world who cared about me, hearing Zander say those words to me that night gave me hope, and I wasn’t ready to lose it yet. But before he could say anything, we were interrupted. “Miss Lana!” I suddenly heard Maria yell as she saw me. “I’m so sorry Alpha. She tricked us, she somehow put sleeping pills in the guards food and escaped. We are so sorry sir.” Maria apologized. I expected Zander to be furious at me for drugging his men, but to my shock, Zander looked a little impressed. But he quickly frowned and snapped at Maria to take me back to my room. I felt a new wave of depression crash over me. Maria was right! Should not have dared to hope in the first place. That night with Zander was too good to be true. By the time morning had dawned, Zander had probably come to his senses and realized that he could never love a worthless Omega like me. I should just accept my fate and just try to survive in this unfair world that was my life. “Don't look so depressed, omega.” Maria said as we walked back to my prison.“ The Alpha just mind linked to me an instruction, he said I should dress you up in your very best, because he would be visiting you tonight.” Maria gave me a meaningful smile that made me halt in my tracks. “He’s coming to see me?”I asked, trying to process this new information I just received. But what did that mean? Did he mean that my plan worked and he was finally coming to claim me as his Luna? Was it something else? I suddenly remembered something he told me on that first night we shared. He said that his aggressive behavior towards me on the first day we met, was all an act, to maintain his reputation in front of his enemies and his warriors. So did that mean that what he just said to me right now was just an act? Or was it real and he truly did not care about me at all? Which one was it? Did he want me or not? My head was beginning to hurt with all these unanswered questions, but also the fact that he was finally coming to visit me meant that we could spend some alone time again, and it gave me some hope that there was still a chance for us to be together. That thought brought a smile to my face, and I quickly rushed to dress up, eagerly waiting for when the Alpha would show up. Thankfully he came in less than an hour. When his tall firm body stepped into my room, I felt the pull of the meeting bond hold me again, and it took everything in me not to rush into his arms again. I watched with satisfaction as his eyes trailed my body up and down, the desire in his eyes was very obvious. No matter how hurtful the words that came out of his mouth earlier were, he could not seem to hide the truth of how much he wanted me in his eyes. “You came.” I said with a smile. “It’s been too long.” “I’m sorry Lana, I think you misunderstood me.” He said and I shook my head. “You don’t have to apologize.” I told him. “I think I understand your situation now. You act tough and harsh in public, but that’s not how you really feel. I understand you, but if I’m going to be your Luna, we are supposed to communicate properl—“ “You’re not going to be my Luna.” He suddenly cut me off. I blinked in confusion. “I don’t understand, I’m your mate, what are you talking about?” “I’m already married to Lana.” He revealed, causing my breath to catch in my throat. “I’m married and I already have a beautiful, powerful Luna. So you can never be my Luna, and I can never marry you.” I felt a sharp pain pierce my chest, and it felt like something was crushing my heart to pieces. The room began to swim around me and I had to grab a chair to stop myself from falling as a wave of dizziness took over me. What was he saying? Did I even hear him right? “What do you mean you have a Luna?” I gasped. “Then what is all this?” I gestured at my luxurious room and clothes. “Why are you giving me all this if you don’t want me?.... Wait! Are you here to reject me? Is that why you came today?” I asked but he shook his head. “I am a happily married man and I don’t plan to ever leave my wife, but we have a big problem and it has to be solved as urgently as possible. My wife Amelia, can not have children.” He revealed and I paused, wondering what his problem had to do with me. “Amelia can’t have children, but I can, and I need an heir to carry on as future Alpha. That’s why you’re here, your job is to give me and my wife a child or children, depending on what my wife wants.” I almost burst out laughing in disbelief. Was this a joke or some sort of cruel prank they play in the crimson pack? “Wait a minute,” I said, trying to process my thoughts. “You’re saying that you need me to give birth to children for you? And then what happens to me and my child?” “You will give us the children so they won’t be yours anymore, they will be my wife’s children, then we will pay you for your service and release you to go anywhere you want.” I gaped at him incredulously. “Are you asking me to sell my children to you and your wife for money?” I snapped. “No! Never! I won’t ever do that even if you gave me half of everything you own!” I screamed. Zander’s face suddenly hardened and he shot me a terrifying glare. “Let me make something clear to you Omega, I’m not asking you anything. I’m telling you what is going to happen, whether you like it or not!” He sneered. And in that moment, I realized that I had been such a fool, Maria had warned me that I would always be a prisoner and my only freedom was death, but I foolishly ignored her. Now the only man that I had allowed myself to trust was going to use and abuse me for his selfish pleasure. Was this my only fate in life? To be used and abused? No! I refuse to accept it. Even if this was the fate that the moon goddess had in store for me, I would fight it with every drop of blood in my body! I glared back at Zander with the same coldness he was shooting at me.
