Lilian found the Human Resources office on Floor 33.
When she arrived, dazzling women were seen exiting the office one after another; their heads hung low in dejection.
Lilian felt a sense of unease rising within her as she wondered what exceptional qualities she possessed that would lead to her being hired, especially considering the many outstandingly beautiful women who had been rejected.
"What rotten luck!"
"Yeah! How could they do that?"
Two beautiful ladies passed by the corner where Lilian was standing, their faces etched with resentment. Lilian stealthily followed them for a while, and, as expected, she gathered some information.
"It's an interview for the CEO's secretary! Why is the CEO's fiancée also present?"
"Exactly! She keeps nitpicking. I bet she's afraid we might take her place since we're too pretty!"
"By her standards, I'm afraid no one here would make the cut. Who would even apply for the position of CEO's secretary if they're not pretty? Hmph, let's see what she'll do!"
Lilian quietly retreated into the corner, feeling troubled by her decent makeup and attire. Sadie hadn't informed her about the presence of the CEO's fiancée. If she were to walk in like this, she would undoubtedly face the same fate as the candidates before her. She needed to come up with a plan.
Lilian was standing near the restroom when a cleaner, pushing her cleaning cart, walked in. An idea suddenly sparked in Lilian's mind, and her eyes lit up.
When Lilian emerged from the restroom, her carefully applied makeup had been removed. Her wavy hair was now pinned up behind her head, and she wore thick glasses that obscured her beautiful face.
She had transformed into a plain woman, even borrowing a loose jacket from the cleaner. However, even the oversized jacket could not conceal her curvaceous figure, her plump bust stretching the fabric into an enticing curve.
"After giving birth to William, my bosom has grown bigger, and there's no way to hide it." Lilian fretted as she looked at herself in the mirror.
Under the curious gaze of those around her, Lilian made her way to the office door. With a polite knock, she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
A man was seated at the office desk with a business card in front of him, bearing the title HR manager, Owen Braun. On the couch nearby, a beautifully dressed woman in expensive attire was seated, her eyes scanning Lilian up and down.
Lilian nodded solemnly as a greeting, extending her resume toward the manager, who was sitting up straight.
"Hello, Mr. Braun," she said, "I'm here for the interview. My name is Lilian Ashcroft. Please, take a look at my resume."
Owen took the resume, posing a series of professional questions to Lilian. Her responses were all impressively articulate.
Then, he proposed several emergency scenarios. Drawing from her years of extensive work experience, Lilian provided a number of solutions that could be considered perfect.
Owen nodded in satisfaction.
However, as he was about to sign, he hesitated, taking in Lilian's attire and appearance.
"This woman's lack of sophistication is just..." he thought.
Owen hesitated before saying, "You're quite capable, but your image..."
"Even though I might not be a beauty, I'm a top student majoring in literature," Lilian said. "Moreover, your company is recruiting for the CEO's secretary position. Shouldn't you prioritize competence over appearance?"
Owen perused the resume, acknowledging the fact that Lilian's capabilities were indeed impressive. He glanced at the woman seated on the couch, who spoke calmly. "I see no issues with her appearance. Owen, allow me to remind you that when hiring a secretary for Raymond, professionalism is key."
Owen immediately responded with a pleasing smile. "Indeed, Ms. Cowell, you are right."
He turned his gaze toward Lilian as he said, "You're hired. You can start today. The CEO's office is on Level 36, so head straight up. I'll let the secretary upstairs know."
"All right, got it. I'll definitely work hard!"
Lilian bowed to the two and then cheerfully exited the office.
After she left the manager's office, she headed straight for the elevator. While waiting, she didn't forget to send a message to Sadie, letting her know that she had passed the interview.
Ding!
The elevator doors slid open, and Lilian, engrossed in texting, stepped in without looking up. As she moved, the exposed pristine fair skin of her neck was eye-catching.
"Ouch..." Her head collided with a chest as hard as a wall. The impact not only caused her forehead to ache but also knocked her glasses askew.
"Why would anyone stand right at the entrance of such a large elevator..." Hissing in pain, she raised her head to rebuke the person she ran into, but her words were cut short when she saw the man's face.
"It's you?" Lilian blurted out in surprise.
Lilian recognized him to be the same man who had kindly helped her when she nearly fell this morning.
The man was captivated by Lilian's familiar scent and the fair and delicate skin of her neck, a stark contrast to her modest attire. He found himself momentarily dazed, inadvertently allowing her to step into the elevator.
This was the CEO's private elevator, and she actually pursued him all the way here to seduce him?!
He said icily, "Get out!"
Lilian was momentarily taken aback, pointing to herself. "I'm the CEO's secretary. What gives you the right to tell me to leave?"
"The CEO's secretary? Why wasn't I aware that the CEO of this company has a secretary like you? Just another gold digger's trick," the man scoffed.
Lilian felt offended and retorted angrily, "Sir, it's pretty rude of you to label people like that, you know? First of all, I bumped into you because I was distracted while texting, for which I apologize. Secondly, your temper is worse than a cow; you know that?"
The man's face flushed red from anger. "What are you talking about? Do you even know who I am?"
