“Don’t listen to him, he is a general ass” Sylvia, Arthur’s older sister consoles Harriet.
Harriet, Sylvia, and Janet, her best friend, came to the store to shop for Harriet’s wedding dress. They were checking out different dresses for Harriet to try on.
“General ass?” Janet asked Sylvia, with a confused expression.
“Yeah, he is an ass to everyone, even to the general public.” Sylvia replies by taking out a lace and satin dress and placing it on Harriet’s body to check it out.
Janet nodded, “You’re right” and she turned to face her friend. “Don’t mind any of his words. Let it just slide in and out of your ear.”
“It’s easier said than done when he constantly reminds you that you are not needed and are nothing.” Harriet says frustrated.
“Darling, Arthur is an ill-mannered child that should have never been born if not abortion is a crime and sin but, my advice to you is to ignore him and his words and focus on yourself.” She peels the cloth off her body and looks for another dress for her future sister-in-law.
“She is the right girl. You’re bigger than that. Now let’s focus on making you look good on your D-day.” Janet said excitedly. She loves shopping. She scanned the area and her eyes landed on a dress. She walks to it and admires it. Then, she asked one of the boutique attendants to bring it for her and they did and followed her.
“This is a fine piece” Janet says and Sylvia admires the dress and agrees with her.
“I agree, you must try this on Hari,” Sylvia said, still admiring the dress.
“I don’t know, it seems a bit too exposed to me.” Harriet shrugged, not really caring about the shopping.
“Nope it’s perfect” Janet handed the dress to her “Now go try it on” she said as she beckoned on the attendant to follow Harriet to the changing room.
“Oh uh, no way. I am not wearing this” Harriet protested but Sylvia and Janet insisted and shooed her to the dressing room. She pouted playfully and entered the dressing room with the attendant and wore the dress with the help of the attendant.
She came out of the dressing room and her friend and future sister-in-law were in shock and awe at how the dress fits her so well accentuating her curves.
“Oh my gosh, this dress suits you so well” Janet exclaimed
“It’s like it was made just for you” Sylvia gushed,
“We have finally found the perfect dress” Janet cried out.
Harriet looked at herself in the mirror and saw how beautiful she looked. She felt happy and sad at the same time. Happy that she is wearing a perfect dress to her wedding but also sad that she is wearing it to get married for that arrogant jerk that has never regarded her for once. She just wished she was wearing this and going through all this stress for the right one but life isn’t fair.
“Hey, are you okay? Why are you crying?” She hears Sylvia's concerned voice as she wipes her tears and Janet rubs her back soothingly. She didn’t even know she was crying. She just shook her head.
“I am just happy that’s all”
“You sure?” Janet asked, handing her a handkerchief which she gladly took and dabbed her eyes.
“Yeah, I am fine but you guys are sure this dress is nice?” Harriet asked to change the topic, not wanting that kind of attention.
“Yeah, you look fabulous, gorgeous, everything. You are going to turn heads at the wedding, even Mr. Player himself” Janet said nudging her playfully.
“Oh please don’t give me false hope. He doesn’t even notice my presence.”
“He does but tries to deny it” Sylvia said still admiring the dress
“I don’t believe that”
“Suit yourself” Sylvia said “So, is this the final dress or part of the option list?” Sylvia asked
“Nah, I think we are done. Do you like the dress though? It’s your day and we respect your decision” Janet said to her friend.
“Do you like the dress Harriet?” Sylvia asked
“Yeah I do” Harriet said and she twirled around and admired herself in the mirror. “I am taking it” and Janet and Sylvia cheered happily.
“Well, well, well, who do we have here?” a voice said from behind them and they all turned to see a woman who looked to be in her early thirties dressed in a blue romper, black ankle boots and holding a blue purse. She had a look of disgust directed at Harriet.
“What do you want Stephanie?” Sylvia asked, upset by this strange woman’s presence.
Harriet and Janet looked strangely at each other, wondering who the lady was.
“This is the flavor of the month, eh?” She eyes Harriet in her lovely dress.
“Well, she gets to wear the dress, she won” Janet stands in front of Stephanie as if to protect her friend.
Stephanie laughed. “This wouldn’t last. Arthur isn’t that kind of person and he wouldn’t stoop low to this” she gestured to her in disgust.
Sylvia held Stephanie’s hand and pushed her from the pair.
“Look here you little rat. I would destroy you if you do try to destroy what my brother has. It’s none of your business if he’s happy or not. The most important thing here is he isn’t going to be with you, but will marry Harriet and build a beautiful family with her”
Stephanie’s nose flared in annoyance.
“This is not the end, he will dump her poor ass and come to me the elite woman made just for him” she points to the three ladies “I promise you. He will come to me” she turned and left the store in anger.
Sylvia sighed and turned to the ladies with an apologetic look.
“I’m sorry for this, let’s pay for the dress and leave. We have a long day today” they agreed and left as soon as they paid for the dress and accessories.
