Comfortably resting in her bed, Sierra opened her eyes, startled to find Drake sitting next to her in an armchair, watching her intently in the candlelit room. He stared at her with a suspicion that was at odds with the longing in his eyes. Her memories of the events following her accident were fuzzy, but she recalled Drake carrying her to Jeanette for a bath and the kind older woman dressing her for bed. Had she slept the entire day away??she wondered. Drake smiled weakly at her. "How long have I slept?" Sierra worried. She didn't know what she saw in Drake's eyes,anger or lust. "You've slept late into the night," Drake answered. "It's past midnight. The doctor said you might wake at this hour after he'd given you something to help you sleep. The day's excitement was too much for you.
