“It’s pretty- yeah.” Clearly, my agreement was exactly what Abby wanted to hear, and she bopped her head happily as I leaned back on my stool. Our conversation ground to a halt, and I picked up my beer to take a deep swig. “Ah-“ The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as prickles shot down my spine, and I stiffened with a tightened grip on my mug. Gulping down the cold brew, I set the empty glass on the bar top under Abby’s watchful, confused gaze. Urgency tingled in my fingertips as I pulled my wallet out of my pocket, but the goosebumps that washed my skin told me I hadn’t reacted fast enough.
