Chapter 9:
The morning Damon Blackwood decided to leave Moonfang Territory began like any other.
The sun rose.
The pack members started their daily routines.
Warriors trained.
Hunters prepared for patrols.
Everything appeared normal.
Yet inside the Alpha's mansion, a decision was being made that would alter countless lives.
Damon stood before the large window in his office.
The report about Aria rested in his hand.
Silverhaven.
Four years.
Four years without seeing her.
Without hearing her voice.
Without knowing if she was happy.
Now he finally had the chance to find out.
A knock interrupted his thoughts.
"Enter."
Ethan stepped inside.
"Everything is prepared."
Damon turned.
"The vehicle?"
"Ready."
"The route?"
"Already planned."
Ethan hesitated before asking the question that had been bothering him all week.
"Are you sure about this?"
Damon looked back toward the window.
No.
He wasn't sure.
Not at all.
What if Aria hated him?
What if she refused to see him?
What if she had moved on?
The last possibility hurt more than he cared to admit.
Yet despite all those fears, he couldn't stay away.
Not anymore.
"Yes," he finally said.
"I'm going."
---
Elsewhere in the mansion, Selene watched from a balcony.
A servant had informed her that Damon was preparing for a journey.
She didn't need anyone to tell her where he was going.
Aria.
Everything always came back to Aria.
Her fingers tightened around the railing.
For years she had considered the problem solved.
The rejected girl had disappeared.
Damon had focused on pack affairs.
Their future seemed secure.
Then Aria returned without even stepping foot inside Moonfang.
A photograph.
A name.
A location.
That was all it took.
Selene's instincts warned her that things were changing.
And she hated change.
Especially when it threatened her position.
A cold smile touched her lips.
If Aria thought she could simply reappear and reclaim what she lost...
She was mistaken.
Very mistaken.
---
Meanwhile, in Silverhaven...
Aria was finishing her shift.
The hospital buzzed with activity.
Patients moved through hallways.
Doctors discussed treatments.
Nurses hurried between rooms.
It was a familiar chaos she had grown to love.
Doctor Hayes approached carrying a tablet.
"Good news."
Aria looked up.
"What happened?"
"The board approved your proposal."
Her eyes widened.
"They did?"
The older doctor grinned.
"Congratulations."
For months, Aria had been working on a program designed to provide free medical care for orphaned children.
Now it was finally becoming reality.
Excitement filled her chest.
This was exactly why she became a doctor.
Not for money.
Not for prestige.
But to help people.
"You earned it."
Doctor Hayes patted her shoulder.
"Silverhaven is lucky to have you."
Aria smiled.
For the first time in years, she truly felt at home.
---
After school, Leo sat beneath a large oak tree drawing pictures.
Most children his age drew superheroes or animals.
Leo drew wolves.
Always wolves.
A black wolf.
A silver wolf.
A white wolf.
Again and again.
His teacher studied the sketches with curiosity.
"Do you really like wolves?"
Leo nodded.
"They're family."
The teacher laughed softly.
"What do you mean?"
The little boy frowned.
As if the answer should have been obvious.
Then he suddenly looked toward the road.
His bright eyes narrowed.
A strange feeling settled inside him.
Someone was coming.
Someone important.
He didn't know how he knew.
He simply did.
And for some reason, the thought made his heart beat faster.
---
Hours later, Damon and Ethan began their journey.
The SUV moved steadily along the highway.
Trees blurred past the windows.
The farther they traveled, the more restless Damon became.
He couldn't stop thinking.
Would Aria recognize him immediately?
Would she walk away?
Would she even listen?
Ethan glanced sideways.
"Nervous?"
"No."
The answer came too quickly.
Ethan laughed.
"You are."
Damon shot him a glare.
The Beta merely smiled.
"Relax."
"I'm relaxed."
"You nearly crushed that water bottle."
Damon looked down.
Sure enough, the plastic bottle in his hand had been completely deformed.
Ethan chuckled.
The Alpha groaned.
Maybe he was nervous.
A little.
Fine.
A lot.
Because despite all his confidence on the battlefield, facing Aria terrified him.
The woman he rejected now held something he desperately wanted.
A second chance.
And he wasn't sure he deserved one.
---
That same evening, a storm gathered over Silverhaven.
Dark clouds rolled across the sky.
Thunder rumbled in the distance.
Aria glanced through the apartment window.
"The weather changed quickly."
Leo looked up from his toys.
"The birds warned me."
Aria paused.
Again with the birds.
A part of her wanted to dismiss it.
Yet every strange prediction Leo made seemed to come true.
She sat beside him.
"Leo."
The little boy looked up.
"Yes, Mama?"
"Have you ever seen a black wolf in your dreams?"
His eyes widened.
Then he nodded.
Aria's stomach tightened.
"What does he do?"
Leo considered the question carefully.
"He keeps looking for us."
A chill ran through her.
The exact same dream.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Almost as if someone was calling to him.
Or searching for him.
Before she could ask another question, lightning flashed outside.
The room briefly filled with white light.
For a split second, Leo's eyes seemed to glow silver.
Then it vanished.
Aria froze.
Her breath caught.
Had she imagined it?
Surely she had.
Yet deep down, she knew she hadn't.
Something was happening.
Something she didn't understand.
Something connected to Leo.
And perhaps...
To Damon.
---
Hundreds of miles away, Damon stared through the windshield as a road sign appeared ahead.
WELCOME TO SILVERHAVEN.
His heart immediately began pounding.
After four years.
After countless regrets.
After endless unanswered questions.
He had finally arrived.
Unaware that only a few miles away, his son sat eating cookies while watching cartoons.
Unaware that Aria was closer than ever.
Unaware that enemies were already moving against both of them.
The storm above Silverhaven intensified.
Thunder shook the night.
And fate quietly prepared for the reunion that would change everything.
The rain fell heavily over Silverhaven.
Streetlights reflected across the wet roads as Damon sat inside the parked SUV.
His heartbeat was steady on the outside.
Inside, however, he felt anything but calm.
For four years, he had imagined this moment countless times.
Sometimes Aria forgave him.
Sometimes she screamed at him.
Sometimes she simply walked away.
Yet now that he was actually here, none of those imagined scenarios seemed real.
Because reality was far more terrifying.
Ethan checked his phone.
"The hospital records show she usually leaves around this time."
Damon nodded.
His eyes never left the hospital entrance.
Minutes passed.
Then the glass doors opened.
A woman stepped outside.
The world seemed to stop.
Damon forgot how to breathe.
Aria.
It was really her.
Not a photograph.
Not a memory.
Not a dream.
Her.
She looked older.
More mature.
More confident.
The sadness he remembered was gone.
In its place stood a woman who carried herself with quiet strength.
His chest tightened.
For years he had convinced himself he was moving forward.
One glimpse of her proved otherwise.
Because the feelings he buried never disappeared.
They had simply been waiting.
Waiting for this moment.
Ethan glanced at him.
"You okay?"
Damon didn't answer.
He couldn't.
Aria was laughing with a colleague.
A genuine laugh.
The kind he hadn't heard in years.
And somehow that simple sound hurt and healed him at the same time.
"Alpha?"
Damon swallowed.
"Yeah."
But he wasn't okay.
Not even close.
---
Across the street, Aria said goodbye to her coworkers.
The rain had become lighter.
She opened her umbrella and started walking home.
Completely unaware that someone was watching her.
Someone whose life had once been deeply connected to hers.
Someone who still remembered every detail of her smile.
Damon stepped out of the vehicle.
"Alpha?"
Ethan looked surprised.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going to talk to her."
For years he had waited.
He wasn't waiting anymore.
The distance between them wasn't far.
A few dozen steps.
That was all.
Damon started crossing the street.
His wolf became restless.
Excited.
Nervous.
Hopeful.
Then suddenly—
A screech echoed through the road.
A car lost control on the wet pavement.
Everything happened in seconds.
The vehicle spun.
Straight toward Aria.
"ARIA!"
The name exploded from Damon's throat.
She turned.
Her eyes widened.
The car was almost upon her.
Without thinking, Damon moved.
Faster than any human could follow.
His instincts took over.
His wolf's strength surged through his body.
He reached her just as the vehicle slid forward.
Aria felt herself being pulled.
Strong arms wrapped around her.
The world spun.
Then they crashed onto the sidewalk together.
The out-of-control car smashed into a nearby pole.
Metal crunched.
Glass shattered.
Silence followed.
For several seconds neither moved.
Aria blinked.
Confused.
Dazed.
Safe.
Then she realized someone was holding her.
Someone whose scent felt painfully familiar.
Her heart stopped.
No.
It couldn't be.
Slowly, she looked up.
And froze.
Golden eyes.
Dark hair.
A face she had spent years trying to forget.
"Damon?"
His name escaped as barely a whisper.
Damon stared back at her.
Four years vanished in an instant.
The pain.
The memories.
The regrets.
Everything crashed into him at once.
Neither of them spoke.
Neither knew what to say.
How could they?
Four years of separation could not be solved with a single sentence.
Rain continued falling around them.
The city seemed to disappear.
For a brief moment, only they existed.
Then reality returned.
Aria immediately pulled away.
The movement felt like a knife to Damon's chest.
She stood quickly.
Putting distance between them.
Her expression hardened.
"What are you doing here?"
The warmth from seconds ago vanished completely.
Damon rose slowly.
"I came to see you."
Aria laughed.
A cold laugh.
One completely different from the happy laugh he had heard earlier.
"Four years."
The words hit hard.
"Four years, Damon."
He lowered his gaze.
"I know."
"No."
Her voice shook.
"You don't."
The pain she had buried for years suddenly resurfaced.
"You rejected me in front of the entire pack."
Every word struck like a blow.
"You chose someone else."
Damon remained silent.
Because there was nothing he could say.
Nothing that would erase what happened.
Aria looked away.
For a second her eyes glistened.
But she quickly regained control.
The old Aria might have cried.
This Aria wouldn't.
She had learned how to survive.
"Thank you for saving me."
Her voice became polite.
Distant.
Professional.
The tone hurt even more than anger.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go home."
She turned.
And walked away.
Just like that.
Damon watched helplessly.
Every instinct screamed at him to stop her.
To explain.
To apologize.
To tell her everything.
But the words refused to come.
Because deep down he knew something.
Aria had every right to walk away.
---
Several streets away, a black SUV remained parked in darkness.
Inside sat the mysterious observer.
He lowered a pair of binoculars.
A slow smile spread across his face.
"So they've finally met."
He picked up his phone.
"The Alpha has arrived."
The voice on the other end chuckled.
"Excellent."
"What are your orders?"
The response came immediately.
"Continue watching."
The man nodded.
Then his gaze shifted toward the direction of Aria's apartment.
Neither Damon nor Aria realized the danger surrounding them.
But soon they would.
Very soon.
Because someone had plans for Aria.
Plans for Leo.
And perhaps even for Damon himself.
The reunion fate had arranged was only the beginning.
The real storm was still coming.
