New Beginnings

I was soaking wet through. Running through the rain to my first day at College. Great start. When I left the house this morning at 8.20 it was a beautiful sunny day. OK so it wasn’t that warm and it was the beginning of September, but yesterday it was quite warm and sunny so I thought today would be the same. So thinking it was going to be a nice day and not rain, I decided not to take a coat with me. I was wearing a plain white blouse and size 10 black skinny jeans with black plimsols. Luckily I put a jacket in my bag, so when it started to pour down with rain. My long blonde hair, was put up in a high ponytail luckily, so I threw my jacket over my head and held it up with my hands to try and keep my hair dry. I'd put waterproof mascara on my long lashes that shaded my dark blue eyes, and I hoped it would hold until I was at least at College. As I ran in through the main entrance, pushing through the crowd of students all rushing to get in, I put one foot inside and slipped. It was a skilful looking slip. It wasn’t the kind where you just fall down. Nope. It was a slide across the floor on one foot kind of slip. One of my shoes flew off and I crashed into some metal lockers, making a loud tinny sound so everyone in the hallway turned to look, and then I fell into someone. Everyone who saw it began to laugh. I felt my face turning red with embarrassment. I stood up as quick as I could, looking down to try and find my shoe. I looked up to say sorry to the person I bumped into and I was rendered speechless. I was looking into the beautiful blue eyes of a fit, 6ft tall man. He was HOT! He looked around the same age as me and I ended up just stuttering some sounds at him, “I......  er......  yeah....... umm...”. He just laughed at me with all his mates.  “Watch it!” he scowled.  “S..s..s..sorry”, I managed to stutter before running off with my head down looking at the floor, not to catch eye contact with anyone, hunting for a toilet to calm myself down. What a good first impression. Everyone will remember me as the girl who made a complete fool of herself on her first day, sliding through the corridor! When I found the toilet I put my bag on the side of the sink so I could fix my make-up in the mirror. I looked at my face and saw my mascara had smudged slightly across my eyelids. “At least my make-up wasn’t too bad, I'm lucky I don’t look like a panda after being caught in the rain” I thought to myself. Then my face changed to a shocked expression. I could feel my face turn an instant red. My white blouse was wet. And I don’t mean a few rain drops or a bit damp in places. It had gone see-through! Everyone would have seen my white bra glowing through my soaked white top. I quickly threw on my jacket and tried to dry my top with the hand dryer as to not make it look so bad. Then I prepared myself to going back out into the hall and finding my classroom, which I was sure I was going to be late for and would have to face the eyes of all the students and the teacher looking at me when I entered. Just great! “Right, deep breath” I said to myself, “you can do this”.  I walked down the deserted hallway, as now everyone was in their classes, and looked for the room with the number 502 on the door. The first number I saw was 102.  "How far away is this classroom?", I thought to myself. "Oh look, it's slip girl!" Someone shouted then laughed. I looked around trying to find out where the voice was coming from and saw the 6 foot tall boy that I fell into not so long ago. I tried to ignore him and keep walking, looking at the door numbers as I pass them.  "Did you enjoy your trip?" He shouted hysterically. "Keep walking...... keep walking", I kept thinking.  I could here footsteps behind me so I walked a bit quicker, still looking at the numbers.  "402, I must be getting closer. Please let me be closer", As much as I really did not want to walk into the classroom late, I also did not want to be out here in the corridor on my own with this guy. This is the worst first day ever. I held back the tears.  "502, found it!" I charged through the door, desperate to get away from this boy and walked into a silent classroom full of students. The teacher looks up from his book he is reading at his desk, looks at me, pushes his glasses up from the tip of his nose and says, "Yes?" "umm... I'm in this class", I respond shakily. "name?", he demands. "Georgia Taylor." "OK. Take a seat." I walked quickly towards the back of the room and sat on the first empty seat with a desk that I saw, not looking up at anyone. As I walked I heard a few little giggles around the room but for now I was glad for the quiet classroom, however I was not looking forward to it finishing. An hour had passed and class had ended. I managed to get through it with just a few stares from people every so often but I waited until everyone had left the class before I decided to walk out into the corridor. I was so tempted to just walk home and hope they'd all forget when I returned tomorrow, but whatever I was feeling now, probably wasn't going to be any different in the morning, so I thought I'd stick it out for now and see what the rest of the day would bring. Maybe it won't be so bad. It can't really get any worse. Can it? Walking to my next classroom through the busy corridor of students all rushing to get to their next subject, I hear a couple of muttered comments. "Did you see her this morning, how embarrassing." One skinny girl with long, straight blonde hair said to another thin girl with brown, shoulder length, wavy hair. "I'd be hiding in the toilet all day if it was me." The brown haired girl replied in pity. Sitting down in the classroom, at the back of course, waiting for the teacher to arrive to start our biology lesson. A group of boys were whispering then turned around to look at me and laughed. Two girls sitting in front of me turn around and begin to talk to me. I'm worried that whatever their going to say won't be nice. After the happenings in my previous school I was on edge, praying it wasn't going to happen again. "Are you alright?" One girl asked me. I realised it was the brown, wavy haired girl I overheard in the corridor and sitting next to her was the blonde girl. They were both staring at me waiting for an answer. I was shocked someone was being so nice. I definitely wasn't used to it. I had no friends by the time I left my last school. "Are you okay?" The blonde hair girl repeated. "Oh, sorry. Umm.... Yes I'm fine, I think," I managed to say. "We saw what happened this morning. Not a great way to introduce yourself to the school," The brown haired girl laughed. "Tell me about it," I laugh back. "It would only happen to me." "I'm Rachel by the way," says the brown haired girl, "and this is Hannah," she pointed to the blonde girl next to her. "Hi. I'm Georgia," I tell them. Just then the teacher walks in and all the girls stop talking and turn to look at him while the boys all groan. I looked at the teacher and realised why. He was beautiful. I could see a bit of George Clooney in him. An older, rugged sort of man, but he was dreamy. I could have stared at him all day. "I'm going to enjoy this class," I thought. The bell rang to signal the end of class and I start to pack up my things into my bag when Rachel and Hannah turned to me and asked what I was planning for lunch time. "Probably going to find a quiet hiding spot so no one can see me," I tell them while laughing. "Oh don't be daft," Hannah said, "come with us, you can sit with us to eat your lunch, it'll be fun." "Only if your sure. There's been a few snide comments thrown my way, you don't want to get caught up in all the drama," I say sadly. "Come on, you're under our wing now. We'll help you settle in," Hannah reassured me. "OK and thank you. I wasn't looking forward to the rest of the day on my own with what happened this morning."  They told me to meet them by the science building at the beginning of lunch time. So after we parted ways, I went to my next class.... psychology. I felt much better knowing I had someone to sit with during lunch, then I wouldn't feel like such a loser. Even though I was used to it in my last school, I was hoping this school would be different, a new beginning, a fresh start Lunchtime came and I went to meet the girls by the science block like they said. When I got there they weren't there. My first thought was they've stood me up, but then I saw them walking towards me, waving and smiling. My stomach relaxed. I remember my so called friends from before. They arranged to meet me for lunch after apologising for being cruel to me and I stupidly agreed. I waited for them in our usual meet up spot and when they came round the corner they threw a bucket of ice, cold water over me. I cried and cried that day. That was the day I told mum everything that had been happening over the last year and she took me out of the school straight away. I only went in to do my exams so I could get into College. She didn't even want to talk to the head teacher about it. "Come on Georgia!" Rachel shouted. She had a happy tone to her voice. For the first time that day I felt it was all going to be OK. I walked towards them as a shadow blocked my path. Then I heard a voice, a deep voice. A man's voice. "Watch where you're walking now slippy!" He laughed.  I turned in the direction of the voice and saw no other than that handsome, creepy boy from the corridor. "Leave her alone Noah!" Rachel shouted. Noah strutted toward Rachel and stood really close to her, standing over her, he said, "And what are you going to do about it princess?" "Just go Noah!" She told him. Noah laughed and walked away with a group of boys who were all laughing. "Thank you!" I said to Rachel. "Anytime," she said, "He's a total dooshbag!" All three of us giggled. We walked together to a small garden area that had a few picnic benches. Only a boy and a girl were sitting at one of the tables, there were five benches altogether. I think they were a couple grabbing some lunch together, they looked happy, smiling at each other. How I wished to feel like that. Hannah and Rachel sat at one of the picnic benches and I joined them. Conversation was easy with these two. We chatted about random stuff and no one mentioned my little mishap this morning, which was a relief. I didn't fancy reliving it again. I just wanted to forget it ever happened. "There's a party this weekend at Harry's house, you should come," Hannah told me. "I'm not sure," I answered. Going to a party was bit too soon for my liking. I didn't think people would forget the incident this morning by then. "You have to come, we can all get ready together!" Hannah shouted excitedly. "Come to mine for 7 on Saturday, give me your phone number and I'll send you my address. Oooo this is going to be so much fun." "I'll think about it. Thank you," I wanted to see how the rest of the week panned out. Maybe everyone will just move on from today and I won't feel as ashamed by the end of Friday. I just hope that if I do go, Noah won't be there. I hated him already. I don't know if he is in any of my classes but I did find out from Hannah and Rachel that he's in the same year as me. For the rest of the day I kept an eye out for Noah, I wanted to avoid him and his friends and all the sly remarks he would shout my way. Last class of the day, Math. I was feeling relieved I had managed to avoid Noah so far. I sat down, at the back obviously, and bent down to get my books out of my bag. My long, blonde hair fell around my face, so I didn't see anyone walking in. So when I sat upright, I immediately felt as if someone was watching me. I looked around the classroom thinking it was more people staring at me because of this morning but I locked eyes with Noah. His big blue eyes, his dark brown hair, his muscular arms, he was the most beautiful man I'd ever seen. He was sitting sideways on his chair a few desks away with his elbow on the table, biting his thumb, staring at me. I realised I was staring back so I quickly lowered my eyes to my desk and pretended to look through the Math book in front of me. I heard him snigger and when I looked up again he had turned in his seat to talk to his mate sitting in front of him. I think I heard him say his name was Jack. He was also good looking. He had dark hair, brown eyes and was around the same height as Noah, maybe a little shorter. "Noah was still the better looking one," I thought to myself, but I still hated him. He seemed arrogant and cocky. I didn't want anything to do with him. The bell rang to signal the end of the day and all I could think about was getting home to lay on my bed, listen to music through my headphones and just chill out. After the day I've had, I thought I deserved to, needed to. Walking through the hallway towards the exit I hear someone call my name. Hoping it was not going to be more annoying comments about my fall this morning, I turned around to see who it was, my stomach dropped a little, I couldn't see anyone I recognise. I turned back toward the exit and quickly headed straight for it. I just wanted to get out of here. Getting closer and closer to the door, "I made it," I thought out loud, but just as I reach the door and take a foot outside, someone stood in front of me. It was Noah.  "What do you want?" I said angrily. I really just wanted to go home. Noah laughed, "nothing," he replied calmly. "Have a nice evening slippy, I look forward to a replay tomorrow morning," and he walked away laughing.  Arghh, I was getting really angry with this guy. Why did he feel the need to tease me. Can't he just leave me be. All the way home I couldn't stop thinking about everything that happened today, when I finally reached my house I ran straight upstairs to my room and flung myself on the bed face down. After a few minutes, I moved from the position I was in, got into my pyjamas and jumped under the sheets. I reach for my headphones then look through my phone for Hannah and Rachel's numbers. I wanted to thank them for today. I turned on my music, a bit of Ed Sheeran, and fell asleep. I woke up early the next morning, 5am to be precise. Feeling hungry, I realised I didn't have anything to eat last night and where was Mum? I went down to the kitchen and made myself some toast and orange juice, then went back upstairs to look for her. Peering through her door, so not to wake her, I noticed her bed was empty. She hadn't been home all night. I went back into my room to check my phone, "maybe she's messaged to say she's working late," I thought. Nope. Nothing. No message. So I sent her a message asking where she was and lay back on the bed, listened to more music for a bit, checking my phone every 2 minutes, until I decided I needed to get ready for school. I jumped in the shower, got dressed into a royal blue hoodie and light blue, washed, ripped jeans with white daps. Throwing my hair into a high ponytail, I grabbed my bag and some fruit from the kitchen then left for school. Checking my phone as I walk there was still no message from Mum. I was getting worried, she always lets me know if she's going to be working late, or going on a business trip. Maybe she did tell me and I've just forgotten. Walking to school, all I could think about was Mum. I'd completely forgotten about the embarrassing day I had yesterday. Keeping my head down, not looking where I was going (in thought not embarrassment), I walked towards the entrance of the school and who should I walk straight into, but Noah! Just great!
