Olivia's pov:
“Stop!" A voice interrupting me. I glanced back over my shoulders, it felt like time paused, nobody said anything, everybody looked in shock. I looked at the woman that interrupted me, she was tall, she had long wavy hair that cascaded to her waist. She stood by the door, panting heavily, like she had been running.
Stomping towards us, she looks at a dazed Lucian, — His eyes were glazed, like he wasn't here, he was sweating so much, my hand inched to wipe the sweat off his forehead but I looked away and fisted my hands, as if to reign myself—
The new woman stops in front of us, she looks at me with venom in her eyes, then to Lucian,
"What is going on here?” She asks, even if I'm pretty sure she knows. At her question, Lucian snapped out of his daze, looking at her, with recognition and surprise on his face.
Did he know her? Was she-? I couldn't think of the statement as my heart stung. I'm about to reject this man, for my safety, our safety, I reminded myself as I looked away from what seemed like a staring contest between Lucian and whoever the woman was.
"Valerie, what are you doing here?” Lucian finally asks.
"I followed you, you looked distressed earlier, I couldn't leave you alone”. She says as she places her hand on his face. I looked away again, not letting the mate bond affect me.
Lucian frowned. I felt some sort of sick joy in me as I internally smiled.
“You didn't have to follow me, I am fine"
“You don't seem fine, this Omega was about to reject you!" She snarled, baring her teeth at me.
I whimpered, feeling the urge to bare my neck, she was an alpha. I felt shame and fear, this she-wolf looked seconds away from ripping me apart, I inched away at the thought.
“You do not call my mate deteriorating names" Lucian growled.
The woman, Valerie, growled too, her eyes glowing.
"I'll call her whatever I want! You're not about to take her side, she was about to reject you, do you know what that would have done to you?” She asked, seething. I cowered again.
Lucian took a visible breath in, closing his eyes, he put his hands on her shoulder, with his head on her forehead, it looked like they were communicating telepathically.
My heart stung again, with jealousy that I couldn't deny anymore, as I wondered who she was for the time.
“Valerie, you need to calm down, you can't just storm in here and make a fuss, you need to understand that I can take care of myself, I am a strong alpha, don't forget that" Lucian said, calmly.
Taking a deep breath of hers, “You're my brother Lucian, I'm just worried about you"
Brother? He's her brother? Looking closely, I could see the striking resemblance, I felt a bit stupid for thinking… I don't even know what I was thinking!
“And to think you wanted to reject him" Liana snickered.
“What? Yes, I still want to reject him"
“You were just jealous of his sister, Olivia, can you be honest with yourself?"
“I don't know what you're talking about" I deny completely.
A clearing of a throat distracted me from the conversation with Liana. All 3 pairs of eyes were on me. I probably looked like a deer caught in daylight. Is there something on my face? Why were they looking at me? I internally asked myself
"Oh, look at her! She's not even concentrating!” Lucian's sister said, throwing her hands in the hair.
Yeah, it's certain, she hates me.
"Olivia, were you listening?” Lena asked softly.
"I-I-I, n-no?….” I stuttered, my heart beating aggressively.
Valerie scoffed.
"It's okay, I'll just repeat what we said,” Lena said again. I nodded meekly.
"So, Valerie wanted to know if you wanted to reject Lucian and why?”
I peered at Lucian, his gaze was already on me, his piercing blue eyes looking at me in curiosity. I quickly looked down. I didn't want to answer her. I needed to reject Lucian, I couldn't be his mate. I needed to leave; But for some reason, I didn't want to hurt him. I knew what rejecting a mate did to a wolf, I had experienced it first hand. Lucian would be better off without me, I decided.
"Well…" Valerie prompted.
“I-I d-don’t-” Lucian didn't let me finish, he interrupted and I couldn't be more grateful for an interruption. That was the first time he spoke since the whole drama started. His voice calmed my nerves, in a weird way that I couldn't explain.
"Little wolf," He started, “ It's fine, you can choose to reject me, i won't oppose, i just need you to come to my pack, after you reject me, I won't be able to live with myself if I leave you to be on your own, with rogues around”
Come to his pack? Even after rejecting him?
“Not everyone is after your life, Olivia," Liana said.
“Liana-" I didn't know what to say.
“If we leave this hospital, there's nowhere to go, I'm sure you know this, we'd be eaten alive by the rogues, we're not exactly strong. And what about food? hm? How would we feed? You need to think about this well"
She was right, we'd die before we would even make it outside 5 steps away from the pack. I knew what Lucian was offering was going to help us a lot. I was confused on why he'd want to help even after saying I wanted to reject him.
I was feeling better already, my wounds had almost healed, Lena was nice but she's a doctor first, she definitely wouldn't let me stay and take up space.
"Can you make a decision?” Valerie muttered. Lucian looked like he was scolding her in his head, I guess since they're twins, they have a joint mindlink.
"Little wolf? What do you say?”
