9. The Choice

Michelle was attacked with worries and anxiety about the future with her mate the moment she woke up. The tears started swimming in her eyes when she remembered her father’s words and the conversation she had with her mother. Although, she wanted them to have an open mind and think about the joy and possibilities a child could bring their way, she also understood their fear. The fear of the unknown and the consequences if those fears were to come true. But it does not mean their words hurt any less. Because whether her parents knew it or not, they were talking about Michelle’s child, their grandchild. It hurt Michelle more than she could comprehend that even if she succeeded in protecting her child and giving birth to it. It will never know its’ grandparents or Michelle’s parents will never know that they have a grandchild. But for the safety of the said child, it was better this way.

The more she thought about it the more her heart broke. As if Grayson could feel what Michelle was feeling, he called her on her mobile phone bringing Michelle out of the darkness that her jumbled up brain was carrying into. When Michelle picked her phone up from her bedside table and saw Grayson’s name flashing on the screen her dark mood instantly lighted up and a small smile made its way on to her face involuntarily. She realized that no matter what she had to go through as long as she had Grayson with her, she will go through it over and over again. She knew that the whole world could be against her, and she will still be happy because her wolf mate would never leave her and will always be there bringing light in her life vanquishing the darkness.

“Please tell me you are alright, and nothing is wrong with you and our baby. Tell me that you aren’t hurt. I have this feeling taking over my body and this immense fear that something is wrong. My wolf is also anxious and pacing in my mind”. Grayson ranted in one breath as soon as Michelle picked up the phone. Michelle could not help but chuckle listening to her adorable wolf mate. They were both so loving and caring and a complete worry wart.

Grayson went silent immediately after hearing Michelle chuckle. Michelle could not see but he was flushed with embarrassment when he realized how silly he was acting, but he decided that he is not going to apologize for calling his pregnant mate early in the morning and bombarding her with questions. He was worried about their safety. Even if Michelle is with her parents and coven, he still can’t help but worry about her safety. After all she is a witch mated and marked by a wolf and carrying his offspring. Which is forbidden in their world. And he also knows that if anyone were to find out the truth, outcome will be the deaths of his mate and their child.

Their child, he smiled thinking about their child. A beautiful family that they were creating. The warmth and happiness that spread through every cell in Grayson’s body was overwhelming. There is nothing more important for a wolf than his mate and his pack. And for now, Grayson had both.

Grayson and his wolf had been very patient. No wolf would let their mate out of their eyes in the early days of the mating, especially if that mating resulted in a pregnancy. Wolves are biologically overprotective and territorial creatures. Especially Alpha and Beta wolves. But Michelle was so thankful for Grayson’s understanding and not hovering over her every second and letting her come back to her territory immediately after mating and, after finding out that she was pregnant. Michelle knew how hard it was for Grayson to let her return to her coven on the morning of their mating. She decided that she will make it up to her mate by returning to his side safely and permanently, with their unborn child as soon as possible.

Lost in her thoughts, Michelle forgot that she was still on the phone with Grayson. When Grayson exasperatedly called her name, a few times was when Michelle came back to present.

“Good morning my beautiful beast, I am very well and still in bed, I just woke up.” Michelle said answering Grayson’s previous questions. She was so in love and her heart soared in happiness thinking about the beast that has stolen her heart the moment he laid eyes on her. She could not imagine her life without her proud beast even for a second. She would fight against the heavens to stay with her mate.

“I felt this wave of anxiety and sadness, like something is wrong or you are in trouble. Those were your emotions I was feeling through the bond. I got so worried, the wolf in me just wanted to run straight in your territory and kidnap you and hold you in our arms.” Grayson said to Michelle.

In truth, he could not explain in words to Michelle what exactly was going through his mind these days. It’s not in a wolf’s nature to be away from their recently mated partner and unborn child for extended periods of time. A wolf needs their partner and children in front of their eyes to bond and let that bond settle.

When he had to let Michelle go to her territory the morning after their bonding, it was like someone is stabbing his heart with silver dagger repeatedly. His beast was whining like a kicked puppy too. They both just wanted to grab their mate and hide somewhere far away from everyone. Where no one could harm their mate or separate them from each other even for a few minutes.

But he understood the reality of the situation, even though reigning in his beast was the hardest battle he has ever had to fight so far. The beast was so sad and pitiful, it curled into a ball and ignored Grayson until they met Michelle again the next night.

So, When Grayson felt all these negative emotions from Michelle through the bond, he almost lost control over the beast and even on himself. He wanted to just barge in Michelle’s palace and hold her in his arms and not let go for eons to come. The only thing that kept him rooted to his spot was that he could never win in a fight again witches and wizards alone, and it could endanger his mate and their child. So, he settled on calling her instead of just rushing into the palace headfirst.

When Michelle explained what happened the night before, and she will have to disappear from her parent’s life completely and never see them again is the reason she was feeling all these negative emotions. He felt like someone had breathed life in his lungs again, even though he was sad that Michelle will have to sacrifice so much to be with him. He could feel Michelle’s sadness flowing through their bond. He wished he could hold her in his arms and take away all her pain and sorrow.

Soon, Grayson thought. Very soon I will have her in my arms and never let go. Then I will hold her in my arms so tight that I will crush all her worries and sadness, and put back her broken heart. I will love her so much that she will never know pain, but for now I will settle with phone calls and messages.

They talked a little more on the phone, talking about their plans for the day. They also decided not to see each other until Michelle was ready to leave her home forever and a plan was in place. They wanted to make sure that there are no glitches, and no one suspects anything. Michelle also told Grayson that she will plan her escape soon and let him know.

They wished each other to have a good day and ended the call to get ready for their day. Both feeling lighter after talking to each other.

Michelle had made her choice; she was going to be with Grayson. Spend the rest of her life loving him and being loved by him, creating a family.
