The next morning, Anna woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside the window. She , still feeling the lingering effects of the previous night. But when she turned over to look at the man who had been there when she fell asleep, he was gone. She sat up, and smiled. She looked around the room, taking in the luxurious surroundings. Where was he? Had it all been a dream? Anna explored the sprawling house, admiring the decor and the artwork on the walls. It was a magnificent place, and she wondered who had designed it. Was it him? Or someone else? She found her way to the kitchen, where she found a pot of coffee brewing and a note on the counter. She picked it up and read it. "I hope you had a good night's sleep. I had to leave early for a meeting, but I’ll be back soon. - R." Anna's curiosity was piqued. She wondered what could be behind the locked door. She thought about asking for the key, but decided against it. Instead, she tried to pick the lock with a hairpin, using a trick she had learned from her father years ago. To her surprise, the door swung open, revealing a room that was unlike any other in the house. The room was filled with bookshelves, each one stuffed with books of all shapes and sizes. There were rows and rows of them, from floor to ceiling. In the center of the room was a large desk, covered in stacks of papers. As she ran her fingers along the spines of the books, one caught her eye. It was a worn leather-bound volume, with the title "The Secret Garden" embossed on the front. She pulled it out from the shelf, and as she did, the bookshelf swung open, revealing a secret room beyond. She stepped through the doorway, and found herself in a space that was unlike anything she had ever seen. The room was dimly lit, with candles flickering on the walls. Anna's breath caught in her throat as she looked around the room. On the walls were photos of her, from magazine covers and paparazzi shots to photos she had taken herself and shared on social media. Some of them she recognized, but others were unfamiliar, like they had been taken without her knowledge. She felt a chill run down her spine. How had this man gotten his hands on these photos? What did he want with them? Anna noticed something else in the room - several large screens, all displaying live feeds from the rooms in her apartment. There was her bedroom, her bathroom, and even her kitchen. She was mortified - had this man been watching her this entire time? How was it even possible? She felt a wave of panic and anger wash over her. Anna rushed out of the house, her heart pounding in her chest. She found the staff members she had seen when she first arrived, standing on the deck. "I need to get off this island," she said, her voice trembling. "I need to leave right now." "I'm sorry, but that's not possible," one of the staff members said. "Mr. Dawson has instructed us to keep you here until he returns." Anna felt a wave of fear wash over her. She didn't know what to do. Was she a prisoner here? What did this man want with her? Anna sat on the deck, watching the sunset, when she saw a figure approaching in the distance. As the figure came closer, she realized it was Rae. He walked up to her, and she stood to face him, her arms crossed over her chest. "What is this?" she demanded. "What's going on?" "Listen..." Rae said, his voice contrite. "I never lied when I said you were my purpose, but maybe I took things a little too far. I needed to know everything about you, but I never meant to make you feel violated." "A little?! You had cameras in my apartment, watching me!" Anna exclaimed, her voice shaking. "How could you do that to me?" Rae sighed. "I know it was wrong, and I'm sorry," he said. "I just wanted to get to know you, and I thought this was the best way. "What world do you live in where you think that's okay?" Anna demanded, her anger boiling over. "I'm sorry," Rae said, his voice quiet and pleading. "I'll make it up to you, I promise. And if you want to leave, I won't stop you. I just want you to know that I would never intentionally hurt you. Ever." Anna was torn. On the one hand, she was furious at what he had done. But on the other hand, she could see that he was genuinely remorseful. She wasn't sure what to do. "I regret my decisions, I really do," he said, his eyes pleading. "And if you want to go home and never see me again, I'll understand. But please, just let me explain myself. And I'll get rid of the cameras, I promise." Anna looked at him, trying to decide what to do. A part of her wanted to get as far away from him as possible. But another part of her wanted to stay. ********** Anna left the island, her head spinning. She stayed with Tori while the hidden cameras were removed from her apartment. It felt like a violation, having someone invade her privacy in such a way. "I can't believe he did that," Tori said, shaking her head. "What a creep." "I can't believe I even gave him a chance," Anna said, feeling embarrassed and foolish. "What was I thinking?" Tori put her arm around Anna's shoulders. "You were just being hopeful," she said. "That's not a bad thing." Two months passed, and Anna hadn't heard from Rae. Maybe he had moved on, she thought. Maybe he had really let her go, like he said he would. Anna tried to put Rae out of her mind, but she found herself thinking about him more and more. She couldn't stop herself from checking his social media profiles, seeing what he was up to. Even though she knew it was probably a bad idea, she just couldn't help herself. A part of her missed him, even though she knew it was probably a bad idea to let him back into her life. She couldn't help but wonder why he had moved on so easily? He had said she was his purpose, so why had he given up so quickly? Was she not as important to him as she thought she was? Was she just another conquest, another notch in his belt? The thought made her feel sick to her stomach. On a cool Tuesday afternoon, Anna found herself in her best dress, her hair and makeup perfectly done. She drove to the building that housed the headquarters of the Dawson Company. She made her way to the top floor, where the CEO's office was located. As she approached the door, she was stopped by two men in black suits. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?" one of them demanded. Anna felt a surge of fear run through her, but she forced herself to stay calm. "My name is Anna," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I need to speak with your boss," she said, trying to sound confident. The two men looked at each other, then back at her. "Who?" they asked, their tone skeptical. "Rae Dawson," she replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "I need to speak with Rae Dawson." "Do you have an appointment?" they demanded. "No, but he's expecting me," she said, pushing past them. But they blocked her way, their arms crossed in front of them. "Just give me a minute with him," she pleaded, but they continued to push her back. Suddenly, a loud voice cut through the air. "Let go of her!" Rae ran up to the two men, his face flushed with anger. He punched one of them in the gut and the other in the face, sending them both reeling. He turned to Anna, his eyes blazing. "Are you alright?" he asked, his voice tinged with concern. Anna nodded, still in shock. She wasn't sure what to make of this new development. Rae rounded on his employees, his anger palpable. "How dare you put your hands on her?" he yelled, his voice ringing off the walls. The men looked down at the ground, clearly cowed by Rae's anger. "I'm sorry, sir," one of them mumbled. "It won't happen again." Rae turned back to Anna, his expression softening. "Are you okay?" he asked again, this time more gently. Anna just nodded, unable to speak. Rae led her into his office, closing the door behind them. They stood there for a moment, Anna not knowing what to say. Finally, Rae broke the silence. "Why are you here?" he asked, his voice soft but insistent. Anna took a deep breath. "I don't know," she said, her voice trembling. "I just... I had to see you." "Why?" he asked, his eyes searching hers. "I... I missed you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She couldn't bring herself to look at him, but she could feel his eyes on her. "I thought it was best to stay away from you, but I can't stop thinking about you. It's like I'm suffocating." There was a long silence, the tension thick in the air. Finally, Rae spoke. "I feel the same way," he said, his voice gentle. "I can't stop thinking about you either." "It took every ounce of strength to stay away from you," Rae said, his voice barely above a whisper. He took a step towards her, their bodies almost touching. Anna could feel the heat radiating from him, and she knew she should step back, but she couldn't move. "Why did you make me stay away?" he asked, his voice full of emotion. "Why did you try to resist this?" He leaned closer, his breath warm against her cheek. "We're meant to be together, you and I," he said, his voice husky. "Don't fight it. Just let me in." She hesitated, torn between her heart and her head. But then, she closed her eyes and gave in, letting herself feel the connection between them. It was like electricity, pulsing through her body. She had never felt anything like it before. He leaned in, his lips just brushing against hers. It was a gentle kiss, a question rather than a statement. She could have pulled away, could have stopped this before it went any further. But instead, she leaned into the kiss, opening her mouth slightly. His hand came up to cup her cheek, and she felt herself melting into his touch. Rae pulled back from the kiss, looking into her eyes. "I'm glad you're here," he said, a soft smile on his lips. "I've missed you." Anna couldn't help but smile back. Despite everything, she felt a sense of warmth and comfort in his presence. It was hard to deny the connection between them, no matter how wrong it felt. "I've missed you too," she said, her voice barely audible.
