63 Ellen grabbed Adam’s arm and indicated for Eva to take the other. She tried to focus him. “Adam, lead us back to the car, you know the way.” He looked at her, his eyes darting from Ellen to the crowds. “Yeah, it’s this way,” he said, stepping up at Ellen’s request. He pulled the two girls through the crowds, many fleeing now to avoid the police and crushing. Ellen gripped tightly to him. She felt battered; Adam and Eva were easily a foot taller and wider than her and had more physical presence in the crowd. Finally she could see the break and they moved into it and away into the back streets. She sighed with relief. Eva visibly slumped. “I never saw that coming,” Eva said. “I thought we were spreading the word to a few select people, but the NAO people are their own worst enemy.”
