chapter 3

Zack’s POV The little girl farmed out in our pack was from Blue River Pack. I know that pack. It’s a good example for other packs. However, its ending made everyone pitiful. She was a survivor of that pack. When she arrived at our pack, she was sick and weak, like a princess in distress. When I attended the warrior training camp, I once met her brother. His tenacity was like an insurmountable mountable. But when I saw him again, he was just like a lonely wolf. Before he left, he asked me to take care of Aniga. But Miranda didn’t welcome her. She was always disgusted with her. She thought Aniga was a jinx, she was afraid that Aniga would bring bad luck to our pack. Aniga was a gritty girl, she quickly accepted all the facts and waited for Billu to come back. She lived a full life every day. She never complained and was never discouraged. I remembered that she only got angry once in the past years. It was because Miranda and her friends destroyed her flowers, which she paid lots of efforts. That day was her birthday, also the day that Blue River Pack was attacked. I was also angry, but later I found Miranda didn’t instigate it. Although she always spoke ill of Angia, she wouldn’t do such shameless things. I taught a lesson to those bastards that bullied Aniga, I also warned Miranda not to bully Aniga. Later I went to Alpha school. I met Annieka there. I didn’t expect that Billu was at the school, too. He told me that there were some survivors of Blue River Pack, and he was investigating the culprits that attacked their pack. At the same time, those rogues seemed to notice Billu’s investment, they were tracking down him. He couldn’t get Aniga involved in this matter. That would be dangerous. I know that the rogues have done lots of evils these years, but their actions were always covert evil. After their sudden attack, they would disappear immediately. Nobody knew their whereabouts. I chose to cooperate with Billu, to protect our pack and to get revenge for Blue River Pack. Billi found the traces of the rouges. They had something to do with Anniela. We didn’t have direct evidence to prove this, so we decided to approach Annieka to get more clues. Annieka and I started dating, then we got back to my pack. However, fate always plays jokes. Maybe Moon had heard my prayer, so she made Aniga my mate. I must admit that I love this little princess who grew up alone. Her charm has nothing to do with her good looking. From the moment she appeared, she would hold my eyes. Kain is my wolf. When he found out that our mate was Aniga, he was so excited. He growled and asked me to find Aniga. Of course, I wanted to get close to her, but we cannot ignore anyone that may relate to the rogues. I was a little worried. Billu always asked me how Aniga was going in our pack. If he knew that I was Aniga’s mate, he would definitely beat me to death. I had to reject her, though the process was very painful. My wolf was roaring at me. Of course, he could understand our situation, but it was difficult for him to resist his instinct. He was wronged, just like a stray dog with floppy ears. He grumbled all night. I noticed that the Alpha of Silver Moon Pack walked in the direction she left. They shouldn’t have known each other. Maybe it was just a coincidence. I couldn’t leave the party now. I could only hope it’s a coincidence. Aniga’s POV I woke up in my room. I seemed to see Kylin, but then I fainted and lost consciousness. Maybe it’s because I consumed too much energy. I doubted whether it was my illusion. It was nearly impossible for Kylin to survive in that kind of situation. Someone was knocking at the door. I collected my strength to open the door. Zack was standing outside with a basket in his hands. His expression was somewhat unnatural, “Aniga, I want to make it clear to you. Annieka is my girlfriend. We love each other. I will never accept you as my mate. My mother asked me to give this to you. Please don’t misunderstand.” I took the basket. There were fresh berries in it. I was very grateful to Luna. She was a kind and gentle person. She really helped me a lot these years. Fannie had been hiding since Zack appeared. “So are you going to resist the Moon’s guidance? We are perfect mates made by Moon. Do you want to betray Moon?” “No,” he answered, “I will always follow the Moon’s guidance.” His expression was cold, his lips were pursed into a straight line, his eyebrows frowned like a knot. I should have figured it out earlier, so I wouldn’t have made myself a joke. His care for me was just out of his character. After all, he was always kind to everyone. I shouldn’t have fancied for him. He wasn’t a man that liked heroism. He just felt sympathetic for such a pitiful girl like me. But this kind of sympathy couldn’t become his reason to spend the whole life with me. I clenched my hands and tried hard to hold back my impulsion to shout, “So you just feel disgusted about me, right? I really feel confused. I don’t know why you hate me. Did I do anything wrong? I am just struggling to live. You follow the Moon’s guidance, but you refuse me as your mate?” Although I always pretend that I don’t care, actually nobody likes the feeling of being aimed at. I know Luna is very kind to me, she has subsidized my life and provided me a house to live in. I know clearly that I am an outsider. Could that be the reason why they hate me? But I never do any harm to Blue Shield Pack. I really cannot understand. I have been suffering from their bullying for 13 years. I hate that they called me jinx, that they threw my lunch on the ground and forced me to pick it up. I was really sick that they robbed me of my keep. I was totally disgusted with the bugs that appeared on my desk and books for no reason. No one, no one would help me, no one would save me. Nobody knew that I would cry secretly at midnight, then the next day, I would pretend that nothing had happened, nothing would affect me. Only the Moon knows how much I miss the wheat bread made by my mom,but now I couldn't even get a hug from Billu. I don’t know why Billu left me alone. I never thought of living alone. Everyone needs comfort and company. I really want a close friend. I never hold any extravagant hope to find any dependence here. I pinned all my hope on leaving here and then looking for Billu after my shifting. I love my mate, I just cannot resist his attractiveness to me. I thanked the decision of the Moon, but he said: “I love Annieka. We met and fell in love with each other at Alpha school. I admit that I cannot resist you, but I will never give up Annieka.” I just wanted a person who could act with me. I can get revenge for my pack on my own, I just...just hope someone could accompany me. Is this also an extravagant hope that I don’t deserve? We parted unhappily. I wrapped myself in the quilt. My wolf was choking. Her sadness also influenced me. I thought I was strong enough to neglect him. I had already prepared myself for bearing all the hatred and hardships alone. Now it turned out that I overestimated myself. Being rejected by my mate almost became the last straw that broke me down. My mind was occupied by the thought that nobody loved me, nobody wanted me. I really resented those f*****g rogues that attacked my pack. I also wanted to ask Billu why he left me alone. I wanted to pack up my belongings and escape from here, where only left me scars and wounds. I was very exhausted because of crying. There were no more tears in my eyes. I got up and began to pack up my own belongings. I wanted to flee from here, but Kylin was still here. I told myself to hold on. I must make sure whether that man was real Kylin or not. I hadn’t recovered from the exhaust of shifting. I felt heavy and then I fell asleep again. Zack’s POV I had a big argument at home. Miranda thought that my rejection was a wise choice, but the pain of rejecting her made me feel bad. I never knew that rejecting mates was such a painful thing before. I couldn't even control myself. I was on the verge of total derangement. I wanted to destroy everything, I wanted to smash things crazily. I didn’t know whether her pain was the same as mine. I began to feel regret about rejecting her like that yesterday. She needed to finish her shift. I’m afraid that my rejection would cause bad effects. Fortunately, she was just in a coma because of losing too much energy. This made me feel relaxed and relieved. My wolf was protesting to me. I knew that this was a road without a chance of regret when I decided to bind Annieka with love and made her give herself away. Unless I couldn’t meet my mate, we would both suffer. Those rogues attacked many packs one after another. The packs didn’t repeat the tragedy of Blue Rive Pack, but the damage and loss were still great. Billu almost exposed himself during his investigation. He had a narrow escape and then we found that there was something to do with Annieka. We had already paid a lot to find the clue, so no other factors could make me give up this clue. Billu hadn’t come to pick her up for 13 years, because the survivors of Blue Rive Pack had been chased and killed all the time. It was dangerous to avoid and investigate. He didn’t want to make Aniga fall into such a dilemma, so did I. But I never expected that I would cause direct harm to her. I needed to admit that I was attracted by her before I knew she was my mate. I couldn’t resist her. She was my mate, which made me happy, but we couldn’t stay together now. Annieka kept asking me how to deal with Aniga. I promised that I wouldn’t leave her alone. The fact that I rejected Aniga in front of Annieka was just evidence that I loved Annieka. I kept telling Annieka that I loved her while enduring the punishment from the Moon. Annieka was persuaded by me. She told me that she also loved me and then went back to her room with the excuse of being sleepy. I pretended to deal with things and then locked myself in the study. I had always been in touch with Billu these years. I had to explain the whole thing to him. He was always over protective to her all these years. I was not sure whether he could remain reasonable when he knew that I rejected his sister. I couldn't even keep my head now. A sharp pain forced my mind back to reality. This severe pain from the heart to all parts of my body stimulated my brain. I didn’t know what had happened until Cain’s roar reminded me. There was something wrong with our mate, Aniga.
