Chapter 21 Differences There was no moat or deep chasm separating the fortress of Unurit from the people. No bridges divided the area. In fact, many of the people’s homes and shops backed right up to the wall that surrounded the costell’s abode. To Genesee it resembled how a child sleeps cuddled up against a parent’s back or side. That’s the impression she got when they neared the enormous stone building. The village of Unurit circled the fortress, as if providing a defensive ring around its costell. Outside the small village were the fields and pastures where strange-looking creatures roamed between fences made of rock and metal. This was what she’d been hoping to see when they arrived.
