The dire wolves existed in lore only . Or so they thought . This age old important book proved otherwise . But Nadia could not understand one thing , that how could a dire wolf hold a dagger and use it to kill the mightiest being that existed in the present , and , for a minute , even if she thought that that optimistic approach was possible , how could she , of all people , find a dire wolf .

But then it struck her . She had heard it from her father once , when he used to tell bed time stories to her , as little Nadia would not sleep other wise .

Once , a human had mated with a dire wolf ( wait , what ? and most importantly , how , and why ! ) , and there by that incident started the line of Werewolves , who were hybrids between a human and a dire wolf .

During the early days of Werewolves , they were wolf like more , and human like less , since it was the dominant gene . They merely existed in one form only , which was a little human shaped wolf . But through the days of their descent , they evoluted to be more human like , which was most likely because of natural selection , as those who looked like wolves most likely would not have been accepted by society , and would have been shunned away to isolation , leading to them not being able to perpetuate their lineage to further generations . Whereas on the other hand , those who were more human like , camouflaged well within the society of humans , and functioned well as an integral member , and hence , existed .

As days went on , the evolution was in such an intricate extent that they could morph between the two forms . They would usually exist in their human form , but when the Full Moon rose , they would involuntarily , and rather , scarily , change into their werewolf avatar , becoming more aggressive , dire wolf like , bigger in size , and , blood thirsty . This posed a severe problem in society , so they themselves remained hidden , so as not to harm anyone . Many samaritan members of society belonging to that race would chain themselves up on the days it was predicted that it would be a Full Moon , so that even if they do morph into a werewolf , they could not move . All of these things were not favourable for suitors , to say the least . So they slowly , and gradually , evoluted into a form , such that they could morph to and fro between the two forms at will . Whenever they wanted to , they could change into werewolves and use their power for the military of their kingdom , for defense for themselves and others , and quickly rose ranks in the hierarchy of power .

From them , started the mighty House of Lupus , where it's constituents were the mighty shape shifting werewolves , extremely loyal , and even more extremely dangerous .
