I grabbed a drink of water and headed out of the castle. We had trails all through the woods and I started running. I got a few “happy birthday”’s on my way out of the common area but once I was in the woods, I was all alone. The sun was just coming up and if I was quick enough, I could catch the sunrise over the mountains.
As I ran through the forest, Selene fought to come out but I held her back. I needed the run, not her.
“Fancy meeting you here.” I heard Jaxon say from behind me. I felt a tingle in my body and turned around to face him.
“You’re following me,” I said. “And it’s creepy.”
“I was outside and smelt you, or rather Leo did, he insisted we come. He wants to meet your wolf.” He said.
“I haven’t accepted you as my mate yet, I need to figure this out. Hence why I was going for a run. I needed to be alone to think.” I replied.
“You run as a human so you feel the pain more, don’t you?” He asked.
“Do you have a power?” I asked, changing the conversation.
“Nope, not everyone does, only like 10% get a power.” He said.
Aw, did I strike his manhood?
Be nice, this is your mate. Look at his eyes, they're so dreamy.
He’s an arrogant a*s.
Our arrogant a*s.
Hearing Selene fawn over Jaxon was just too annoying. I blocked her out and I could hear her pouting in the back of my head.
“Ask me anything, and I will tell you the complete truth.” He said.
“Why do you want to be with me?” I asked.
“You’re hot, you’re beautiful, you’re kick a*s, you’re my mate.” He said, truthfully.
“Do you have any ulterior motives with me?” I asked.
“No.” He replied, honestly.
“How many women have you been with?” I asked.
“Honestly, I don’t know the number.” He sighed.
“Guess.” I said.
“Somewhere between 20 and 50.” He said, making my jaw drop.
Lie!
“You’re lying.” I sneered.
“Okay, probably close to 100.” He admitted, truthfully. “It was mostly just one night stands, I was holding out for my mate. I was an Alpha without a mark, you have to understand that she-wolves are all over me all the time.”
“Oh, poor you.” I frowned.
“I promise that if you accept me as your mate I would never be with anyone else except for you. Even if you don’t accept me, there’s no one who is more beautiful than you. No one compares.”
I bit the inside of my cheek and started running again, leaving him in the dust.
“Lunetta!” He shouted after me. I could tell he started running after me but I got a head start.
He tackled me to the ground and I growled at him.
We laid in the dirt, with him on top of me, holding my arms down. Being this close to him was everything that my wolf wanted. Selene was practically running laps in my head. My whole body tingled and I fought the urge to mark him. Although, after being this close to him that wasn’t all that I wanted to do.
He leaned down and whispered in my ear. “Stop fighting this.”
My jaw clenched and I gulped.
He slowly let go of my right hand and brushed my hair out of my face, but left his hand on my cheek.
I jumped up and pushed him down. Now I was on top of him and held his arms down. I expected more of a fight from him but I think he actually enjoyed this.
“Leave me alone.” I snarled.
You’re saying that but you don’t mean it.
Yes, yes I do.
You forget, we’re the same. I can tell that you don’t mean it. Just be with him, please. I want to meet Leo.
I blocked Selene out.
“I’ll give you time, I’m just asking that you try to get to know me.” He begged.
I was straddling him with my face just inches from his. I sighed and let go of his hands. I was about to stand up when he grabbed my back and gently pulled me back down.
“What are you-” I started to say. I was interrupted by him kissing me. At first I didn’t kiss back, but I couldn’t fight the mate bond any longer. I gave in and pushed back harder. He grabbed me by my butt and stood up, holding me as I wrapped my legs around him. He pushed me up the tree and I could feel my entire body exploding. He kissed where the mark would go when he would mark me and my whole body shot full of electricity.
“Lu, what the hell?” I heard Nick’s voice say from behind me.
Oh, s**t.
I was snapped back into reality and Jaxon set me down. I felt myself start to blush and my eyes got huge. “What did you do to me?” I asked Jaxon. “I didn’t want to do that, but I did it.”
“It’s the mate bond, Love.” He said.
“The what now?!” Nick screamed. “He’s your mate?!”
I sighed and covered my face with my hands. I pulled them off and said “Yes, he’s my mate apparently. And I was doing a good job resisting it until someone decided to ambush me on my run.”
“Well, it didn’t seem like you minded too much.” Nick laughed, poking fun.
“I did!” I snapped back.
“Tell that to your tongue.” Jaxon said, with way too big of a smirk on his face.
Nick and I both growled. “Come on, sis, let’s go home and get some breakfast.”
We left Jaxon standing in the woods, dazed and confused.
“Were you really gonna f**k him on the tree if I didn’t show up when I did?” He asked.
I punched him in the shoulder. “No!”
He laughed. “Sorry, sis, I just don’t ever see you doing stuff like that, you’ve always been so focused.”
“Yeah, well just wait until you find your mate. You feel like you have no control, it’s awful.” I sighed.
“You’re a control freak.” He said.
“I got a power too.” I said after we walked for a bit.
“Really? What’s that?” He asked.
“I’m basically a lie detector.” I smirked.
“Oh, come on! That’s not fair at all! You can’t use your powers against me.” He complained.
“I don’t really know how to control them yet, I think it’s just always on. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.” I said.
“Guess what’s for breakfast?” He asked, changing the subject.
“French toast, hash browns, and sausage and bacon, your favorite.” He said.
I smiled. “Mr. and Mrs. Mason are awesome.”
“Yeah they are.”
“You know, another thing about Jaxon is that he didn’t seem to respect the Masons either, he treated them like servant crap. I just don’t know why the Moon Goddess would pair me with someone like him.” I sighed.
“You’ll figure it out, sis,” He said, putting his arm around me. “But just know that you can reject him.”
“Yeah, reject him and live a life of misery without a mate?” I huffed. “You and I both know the Moon Goddess rarely assigns someone two mates. She’s too pissed off you didn’t listen to her with the first mate she assigned you.”
“It does happen though.” He pointed out.
When we got back to the castle, breakfast was ready for us to eat. Everyone I passed told me happy birthday and I was ready for the day to be over. I hated everyone calling me Alpha Lunetta. I know that’s how they’re supposed to refer to me but I think even they were confused on if they should call me Luna or Alpha. Alpha was always a title for a male wolf and Luna was the mate of the Alpha so I could understand how it could be confusing.
“Thank you so much.” I said to the Masons.
“No problem at all.” Mr. Mason said.
Cosette walked in.
“Why are you wearing a tank top and leggings?” She hounded me.
“What do you mean?” I played dumb.
“You’re sweaty too.” She glared at me.
“Probably from her makeout sesh with Alpha Dickhead.” Nick said. I punched him in the chest, hard.
“Your what?!” She shrieked. “No, you didn’t.”
I scrunched up my nose. “Actually, I did. It wasn’t my fault, it was the mate bond!”
Even without being a lie detector, I could tell that that was a lie.
She shook her head at me but couldn’t help the grin that was on her face.
“I hate you guys, you know that?” I looked at both of them and grabbed my food to eat elsewhere. I heard them giggling as I walked away.
I sat outside to eat in peace when I heard the voice that I dreaded most.
“Hey,” Jaxon said.
“Can I please just eat in peace?” I asked.
He sat down. “If you want me to go, just say it.”
“Go!” I said, a little too loud.
He looked at me, shocked, but listened and walked away.
I took a deep breath and tried to eat the rest of my delicious breakfast.
