It was 4:30 and my Alpha ceremony was about to begin. Cosette was helping me get ready and did my hair and makeup. She curled it and put it half up half down, leaving a few curls out in the front. Then she did my makeup and even though she spent 30 minutes on the makeup alone, it still had a very natural look to it.
I looked in the mirror once she was done.
“Wow.” My jaw dropped.
“You look amazing.” She smiled.
“I do, holy shit.” I laughed. “I don’t even look like myself.”
“Yes you do, just with a little less sweat.” She handed me my beautiful black sleek gown with a slit in the leg. “Now, put this on.”
Not to toot my own horn, but I looked absolutely breathtaking. I thought I did before but once I put that dress on, it was game over. I loved how it accentuated my curves. It showed a little bit too much cleavage but once I readjusted it, it seemed fine.
“Okay, I have to go get ready now.” Cosette said before running off. “You look great!” She shouted as she ran out the door.
I took a deep breath and put on some scary looking red heels.
Alphas and Elders were going to be here, from all across the country to watch. Maybe even from around the world, since I was the first female Alpha.
“Show time.” I whispered to myself in the mirror.
I walked out of my room and Jaxon was standing in the doorway.
“Holy shit.” He stuttered. “You look- you just- you look amazing.”
If I could describe the feeling I got when we were around each other in any way, it would be comparing our hearts to magnets. It feels like our hearts are magnets and they’re constantly pulling towards each other and I had to fight against it to not be touching him.
“Thanks,” I said, pushing past him and heading toward my ceremony.
{Jaxon’s POV}
I found out where Lunetta’s room was and I was just about to knock on the door when it opened. Standing before me was the most beautiful, goddess-like woman I’ve ever seen.
Every piece of me felt attracted to her and was pulling me into her.
Her hair was beautifully done, along with her makeup. I liked that she wasn’t wearing heavy makeup, the natural look was very attractive.
Her dress.
Oh, her dress was so sexy. It was tight around her curves and her leg stuck out of it just a little bit. I tried not to let my mind wander too far when I saw her bare leg sticking out.
“Thanks,” She said after I complimented her.
She just walked away from me, with no issues.
“I think I’m falling for you,” I blurted out.
She paused right in her tracks.
“You’d fall for anything with two legs and a hole to stick it in.” She spat.
Her words actually hurt me. I have been called all sorts of names by women throughout the years, but when she said this, I could feel my heart c***k a little bit.
“It’s only you,” I practically was begging. “You’re all I want.”
“I have to go.” She said, turning around.
As much as I’d love to watch her walk away, I said, “Let me accompany you.”
“What?” She asked.
“Let me be your date.”
She eyed me up and down and bit the inside of her cheek. “Well, you can’t go dressed like that.”
“I have a suit, I can get dressed.” I smiled.
“You have five minutes and if you’re not ready by then, I’m going alone.” She said.
I ran to my room and changed fast, trying not to break a sweat.
I was running back to her and all I could think about was how amazing she looked. I couldn’t help but think of all of the guys there who would also be looking at her thinking exactly what I was. Leo growled inside of me.
You better prove yourself to her. She’s strong and perfect. I love her.
I’m trying. But I think I f****d it all up on the first day.
I don’t know why you were such a d**k to her on the first day. Maybe if you weren’t, she’d actually like us.
I already told you, I was just having a bad day and I thought she was gonna be another one of those she-wolves that are always all over me.
Whatever, you better hope you don’t screw this up.
I ran back and I met Lunetta with barely enough time to spare.
“I guess you clean up nice.” She smirked.
This girl is going to make me jump through so many hoops to be her mate. She’s going to make a whole agility course of obstacles for me.
She was worth it though.
“Did I mention that you look amazing?” I asked, offering my arm for her. To my surprise, she grabbed ahold of it and held onto my bicep. Her touch made me buzz with electricity.
“Perhaps, but you could tell me again.” She smiled.
She’s actually giving me a chance, finally. “I mean it, you are the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen. Seriously.”
“Thank you.” She said.
I looked over at her and beneath her beautiful green eyes that popped with the mascara, she was blushing.
Her brother, Nick, and a female wolf came up. It was the same she-wolf who was sitting next to her at dinner the other night. They both looked at her and raised their eyebrows.
They immediately stopped when Lunetta gave them a look.
They took place on the other side of her and walked outside where the ceremony was taking place.
“Wow,” I muttered. There had to have been close to a thousand wolves outside.
“Yeah,” She agreed.
I could feel her heart begin to race and I squeezed her hand. “You got this.”
{Lunetta’s POV}
My father was up on the little stage we had and I sat, positioned next to it.
“Excuse me, may I have everyone’s attention?” He asked through a microphone. The chatter came to a halt. “Now, you all are here to witness my beautiful daughter take over as Alpha to this pack. I know this is something new to us all, as she is the first female Alpha to ever be born, but I assure you, we must put faith in the Moon Goddess, for she has her reasons.”
He went on and on about traditions and the Moon Goddess and blessings and I tuned out. I looked over at Jaxon who was sitting next to Cosette and Nick at my table. He smiled at me.
I decided to give him a chance. I wanted to try. Afterall, the mate bond was not something to mess with. I’ll be damned if he doesn’t jump through 100 hoops to prove himself to me before I dare trust him.
“Lunetta,” My father said, inviting me on the stage. “Lunetta Lovely, I, Richard Lovely of the Blue Moon pack hereby relinquish my rights as Alpha unto you.”
I smiled at my father, a tear dropped out of his eye.
“I, Lunetta Lovely, accept the title of Alpha of the Blue Moon pack and hereby swear to devote my life to this pack’s needs.” I had been practicing that in my head since I was thirteen.
We shook hands, then hugged. The hugging wasn’t typical but I was his daughter so we broke character for a moment.
Everyone clapped and cheered.
Once they settled down, I gave my speech. “Many of you know me, and judging from the amount of faces out there I don’t know many of you.” I laughed, and the crowd followed suit. “I know it’s scary to see something different when it’s been done one way your entire life. A lot of people think I should have stepped down and forfeited my Alpha duties onto my little brother. I know many are thinking the same thing, wondering why I didn’t do it. I believe the Moon Goddess does everything for a reason. If She wanted Nickolas to be born first and be Alpha, then that’s how she would have done it. Who are we to question the Moon Goddess and her intentions? I hope you all treat me with the respect that you give any Alpha, because if you don’t there will be consequences. Just because I am a woman doesn’t make me any less worthy of being an Alpha. If there’s anyone who objects, feel free to step up and say so.”
Everyone started to clap. “Thank you.” I smiled and said over the clapping.
I felt like I was going to explode with nerves as I backed away from the microphone.
“Beautifully said, Alpha Lunetta,” My father said on the microphone. “So what do we say? Let’s feast!”
While I gave my speech, servants put food at everyone’s tables. I stepped off of the stage and Jaxon was there to escort me back to my seat.
“How’d I do?” I asked quietly.
“Amazing, as always, Love.” He said. “People would be fools not to respect you. Your alpha aura is putting off so many vibes right now, it’s enticing.”
My mother and father sat at our table across from me. My father looked at Jaxon and raised his eyebrows. “So, no longer hating him?”
“Well, right now is as good of a time as any,” I took a deep breath. “I had my mate dream last night.” My mother’s eyes got huge and her smile grew as well. “Jaxon here, is my destined mate.”
My father smiled, but seemed overprotective. “I see.”
“I don’t see the mark,” My mother frowned. “You haven’t accepted him yet?”
“Well, as you know, we didn’t get off to the best start.” I said. “We’re taking it slow and he’s going to gain my respect before I trust him.”
“How are you able to be next to him without ripping his clothes off?” My mom asked. My eyes grew double their normal size and I almost spit out my drink. “When your father and I first met it was like trying to pull apart two magnets. It was impossible for me to stay off of him. The mate bond is so strong.”
“Didn’t need to know that, mom,” I fake gagged. “But I’m fighting the mate bond.”
“Oh, I’m sure Selene is real happy about that.” My mother laughed.
My father looked disgusted and my mother hit him in the arm and whispered something to him.
I looked down at the table and tried to hide my blushing cheeks. I looked over at Jaxon and he was smirking.
Oh, I have got to knock him down a peg.
“Well, Alpha Jaxon, for what it’s worth, I hope that my daughter decides to accept you. You’d be one lucky guy, she’s great.” My mother said.
I sighed, becoming embarrassed.
“I hope so too, Mrs. Lovely.” He leaned closer to me and put his arm around me to reassure me but that just made it worse.
Nick was trying so hard not to make any jokes but he knew I would rip his throat out if he did.
Elder Hart came up to the table. “Congratulations, Alpha Lunetta, you will make a fine Alpha and I hope you decide to have Alpha Jaxon stand by your side.”
“Thank you, Elder Hart.” I said, respectfully.
“I hope this isn’t an invasion of privacy, forgive me for asking, but did you meet your destined mate?” He asked.
“Yes, Sir,” I said. “It’s actually Alpha Jaxon.”
“Perfect,” He smiled. I narrowed my eyes on him. Something wasn’t adding up.
“Yeah, kind of a coincidence that I met Jaxon yesterday and you wanted us to be mates, and then he ended up being my destined mate.” I replied.
“Yes, yes, coincidence indeed.”
Lie! Alarms went off in my head. With this newfound ability that I had, I hadn’t had a chance to catch someone in a lie. This was my first.
“How do you know Alpha Jaxon?” I asked the Elder, trying to get more information.
“Lunetta, dear, please stop hounding the Elder.” My mother practically growled at me.
“Forgive me, Elder.” I smiled through gritted teeth.
A few hours passed by and we were just finishing up the party, sending everyone on their way home.
“I love your dress, Alpha Lunetta!” The omega who was n***d with Jaxon said.
Lie!
Bitch.
“Yeah, I love yours too!” I smiled. “I’m just glad you’re wearing clothes this time!” I grabbed a hold of Jaxon’s bicep and kept walking past her. Her jaw was dropped and her cheeks were nice and rosy.
“That was a little harsh.” Jaxon said under his breath.
“She deserved it.” I said back.
We finally sent the last few people out and I sighed, plopping down in a seat and sprawling out as unladylike as possible.
“Someone ready for bed?” He asked.
“You have no idea.” I laughed.
“Here, let me carry you to bed so you don’t have to walk up the stairs with those heels on.”
“I can walk,” I objected. “Plus, we have an elevator.”
“You realize that you basically have the words ‘I don’t need a man’ written on your forehead right?” He sighed. “Just let me carry you. Come on, I didn’t get my normal work out in, this will be it.”
Before I could object again, he scooped me up and carried me towards the elevator. I let out a giggle against my will but quickly recovered and put my resting b***h face back on.
We got into the elevator alone and sat in silence.
The tension between us couldn’t be cut with the sharpest knife.
“You have the prettiest eyes.” He whispered, staring at my face. Tingles went through my whole body and my heart skipped a beat.
He slowly leaned in and kissed me. To my surprise, I kissed back, and with more force. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled his head closer to me.
The elevator dinged as we hit the fifth floor and I instantly pulled away. He set me down and I was about to walk out of the elevator when he pulled the emergency stop button as the doors shut. As I turned around to ask why, I felt his large hands slip around my waist. He grabbed and pushed me against the wall. His hand moved up, resting on my throat and he kissed me hard. I pushed him off and against the other wall, fighting for dominance.
He started to pull off my dress and I immediately jumped back, breathing heavily.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, concerned.
“Nothing, just-” I closed my eyes and tried to regain composure. “Not yet.”
He nodded. “No worries.” He said as he kissed my forehead. “Take all the time in the world.”
I pressed the emergency button and the doors opened. My room, my office, and one guest room were the only rooms on the floor. There was also a hot tub and pool as well. I walked through the doors and turned around to see Jaxon, staying in the elevator.
“Come on,” I invited him.
He smiled and followed me.
I unlocked my door and allowed him in my room.
“Damn, nice room.” He said.
“Thanks,” I replied. “I’m going to get out of this dress, I’ll be right back.”
He nodded and I went into my closet to change. He was looking at my knife display when I left to find something more comfy. I have collected knives and daggers since I was a kid. I put them on a big display shelf when I got this room.
“I want to know everything about you.” I heard him say from the closet.
I cracked the closet door so I could hear him better and said, “What about me?”
“What’s your favorite color?” He asked.
“Black.” I replied.
I stripped the dress off and looked for my bathing suit.
“Really? That’s so boring!” He said back.
I looked out of the closet and saw that he could see me through the mirror. We made eye contact and he turned away. I smirked. “Well, what’s yours?”
“Well, it was blue until I saw your eyes,” He said. “And after seeing them, now I realize that they’re my favorite color. So green.”
I blushed a little. “Kiss ass.”
“Ouch!” He laughed.
I came out in my black bathing suit and his eyebrows raised.
“There’s a pool on this level. It’s technically mine now if you wanna go hop in?”
“I don’t have a bathing suit.” He said.
“Well, there’s no one up here,” I suggested. “You could just go in your boxers.”
He gasped. “I cannot believe that you think so low of me, Lunetta Lovely, I would never strip down to my boxers in front of a lady.”
I laughed. “Right.”
He did as I suggested and we went to the hot tub. It was kind of nice having the floor to myself. Some ranked members came up here during hours to talk with the Alpha in their office but never at night for privacy reasons.
We lowered ourselves into the hot tub and I leaned back. “Mmm.” I murmured.
I had my eyes closed but I could feel him staring at every piece of me. I wasn’t sure if I liked it or didn’t like it.
“What other questions do you have for me?” I asked.
“What’s your number?” He asked. “I told you mine.”
I lifted my head up and gave him a look.
“None?” He asked to which I nodded. “Well, that’s kinda hot.”
I chuckled. “What?”
“Just knowing that I’m the only one who’s ever touched you.” He scooched closer. “Who’s ever done this,” He pulled my hair away from my neck and kissed where the mate mark would go. I started breathing heavily. His hand went on my thigh and I jumped up, moving to the other side of the pool.
“I have not accepted you as my mate yet, you have got to stop doing that.” I ordered with my eyebrows furrowed.
“Well, I can tell that you like it.” He protested.
I blushed. “I don’t care. No means no.”
“Okay, okay.” He put his hands up, like he meant no harm.
We sat in silence for a moment. “So, how come a dime like you hasn’t hooked up with anyone yet?”
“I’m the only female Alpha to ever exist and you think I’m going to be a s**t? The Elders are just looking for reasons for me to be unfit. So, I’ve made sure to always focus on training and nothing else. You don’t realize how much harder my life has been. You can sleep around, drink, party, do whatever you want and no one would think twice. I’m sure you do that a lot too. But if I did it, I would instantly be declared unfit.”
“I never thought about that.” He said, truthfully.
“Are you related to Elder Hart?” I asked, changing the subject.
“Yes, he’s my grandfather.” He said.
“Do you know why he wanted us to be mates?” I asked.
“Honestly, he’s been sending me to hundreds of different packs over the years, trying to get me to find a mate. It’s annoying, really, but since he’s an Elder I have to listen. That’s why I was so rude to you when I first showed up. I was just sick of constantly being dragged around. I wanted to just trust the mate bond but he wanted me to get mated up, quick. I heard some stories of the female Alpha but I never thought they were true or that you would be who he was setting me up with. I want to believe it’s all just a coincidence, but I can tell you smell something fishy and I think I do too, I just don’t know what.”
Everything he said was true.
“If we become mates,” I said, lighting his eyes up. “How would it even work? Would our packs merge together and would they call us both Alphas? Would we move to your land or mine?”
“Honestly, ever since I came here it has felt like home. I love the castle, I love the lake, I love the mountains, I love y-” He stuttered. Was he just about to say he loved me? “I love your setup on the top floor. My place isn’t quite as homey.”
“You have a pack of 600. I just don’t think we have the room.”
“So that’s the thing,” He said. “I have a pack of 600 but we live quite a ways away and we live in little portable cottages and tents. Practically like we’re camping, but all of the time. Mine is bigger, obviously, but it’s just kinda bleh, especially compared to this.”
“Well, why would you have 600 wolves under your control if you couldn’t take care of them all?” I asked, furrowing my brows.
“I think we were just raised differently. I was raised to treat them like soldiers and from the looks of it, you were raised to treat them like family.”
“They are your family, they’re your pack.” I argued.
“My higher ranked people, yes, but the omegas, no.” He argued back.
“See, I don’t think I could be with someone who is as arrogant as you. You think just because you’re Alpha that you’re better than everyone else.” I scowled.
“Well, yeah, that’s kind of what Alpha means.”
“No, Alpha means so much more than that. I want every single person in this pack to trust me. I want to know every person’s name because I want them to all know that they matter. They aren’t just some wolf, they’re important. They all have a job and without the little people, us bigger people would struggle. What if I had been born differently? Lower rank, lower class? I wouldn’t want to be treated like dirt that you walk on. I’d want to be treated like I meant something. You know, I always offer to help Mr. and Mrs. Mason cook because there’s no reason that I shouldn’t. I am just as capable as they are of making food.” I let out a big sigh. “Your ignorance just amazes me.”
“Your selflessness amazes me.” He said, looking all googly eyed.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I’ve never had anyone talk to me like that. You knew I was doing something you didn’t like and you went after me for it. You won’t put up with any of my s**t, and I know it, and I love it.”
“You better start fixing up your act before you think you’re getting anywhere near this.” I said, pointing at my body. “You’ll start by cooking breakfast for everyone in the morning. Tomorrow is Sunday, so breakfast isn’t until 9.”
“You want me to help cook breakfast?” His jaw dropped.
“Yup.” I smirked.
“Okay, one condition.”
“What?”
“I get to sleep on this level, with you.” He smiled.
“In the guest room you mean?”
“No, but that’ll work too.”
“Okay, whatever floats your boat, dude.” I shook my head.
Cosette, Nick, Dylan, (He’s a Delta, basically ranked right below the Beta. He takes care of a lot of the training.) and Abigail(Dylan’s mate) walked in.
“Hey,” Cosette said.
“Thought you said it would just be the two of us.” Jaxon said, looking wide eyed.
“Well, I kind of invited them before you even came along.” I explained.
“Nice, thanks for letting me know.”
“Told you I would keep you on your toes.”
He gave me the side eye but didn’t say much else. Everyone started talking over one another and Jaxon got really quiet. I stared at him, trying to figure out what was going on inside of his head.
{Jaxon’s POV}
I can’t believe that she just invited all of these people here without telling me. I sat in the hot tub, in my boxers, feeling a little exposed. I don’t know why I felt this way, I had nothing to be ashamed about. I mean, hundreds of people have seen me n***d after shifting and it’s never bothered me before. Suddenly, the other girls in the hot tub seeing me exposed made me uncomfortable. I wondered if it had something to do with the mate bond.
I looked up at Lunetta, who was staring at me intently. Her cute brown eyebrows were furrowed, creating light wrinkles in her forehead. She was in deep thought about something. She had her hair up in a messy bun, with a few strands hanging loose, outlining her face.
“Take a picture, it’ll last longer.” I said, jokingly, before I could catch myself.
She almost looked hurt when I said this but she pretended to laugh it off in front of her friends. Seeing just that little amount of hurt in her eyes made my heart ache and I realized that I could never see her in pain, or cause her any pain without it killing me.
You’re so stupid. Leo said in my head.
Why does it hurt so much? I was just joking, I didn’t think it would cause her any pain.
Because she’s our mate. And your dumbass hurt her feelings. Now make it up to her, Goddess knows she deserves better than your dumbass.
I blocked Leo out for being mean.
“I guess I’m probably overdo for the brother talk,” I barely heard Nick say. “You hurt my sister, and you answer to me.”
“Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate you having her back, and no offense, but I think that your sister can take care of herself. She already kicked my a*s once.” I admitted. “But I wouldn’t dream of hurting her, ever.”
“You kicked his a*s?” The male next to Nick asked.
“Yes,” Lunetta said, going on to explain the whole story of why she kicked my a*s.
Everyone laughed and Cosette said, “You totally deserved it.”
“Oh without a doubt, I was being a huge asshole and she didn’t deserve that. I’m glad she put me in my place, I needed that.” I admitted again.
I felt like I might be gaining some brownie points with Lunetta. Admitting when I was in the wrong and when I messed up was something I’ve never been able to do before I met Lunetta. Even if I knew I was wrong, I sure as hell wasn’t going to admit it. Something about her made me want to be a better person and even knocked me down a few pegs.
Cosette realized no one introduced anyone to me and proceeded to tell me their names. I noticed mate marks on Logan and Abigail's necks and felt a hint of jealousy. I wanted that mark so badly from Lunetta.
“Alright, I have been in this hot tub for way too long.” Lunetta said, standing up and exposing her body. I felt the sudden urge to cover her up but I stopped myself, knowing I hadn’t earned that right yet. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow, I’m gonna head to bed.”
I stood up too, exposing myself. I noticed that no one looked or cared that I was in my boxers but I quickly grabbed a towel and covered myself up anyways. I handed Lunetta a towel and she wrapped herself up in it.
“Bye, lovebirds.” Nick mocked as we walked out the door.
“What is it about you that makes me never want to leave your side?” I asked. I don’t know why I allowed myself to ask that but I just sort of spat it out. It’s like I had no filter whenever she was around me.
