SSS...Super Task

1069 Words
The Qingshui River, with its rolling waters and boundless waves, stretched like a massive dragon coiled at the bottom of the river. It was a crucial river near Qinghe City, originating from the Kunlun Mountains, flowing for thousands of miles with powerful torrents and crashing waves, passing right through Qinghe City, which gained its name from the river. In the early hours of the morning, The sky was just beginning to brighten. From a distance, the Qingshui River resembled a black dragon, majestic and imposing as it stretched across the land. Listening to the crashing waves, Qin Tian hurried towards the riverbank. The bright moon hung high, casting its silvery light down upon the earth. A soft breeze swept through, causing the reeds to rustle and adding a poetic charm to the serene scene. It was a beautiful moment, but Qin Tian had no time to admire it. He needed to wash the bloodstains off his body quickly. If he didn’t hurry back, Zhang Dafu would undoubtedly give him a severe scolding. Quickening his pace, he reached the riverbank, removed his clothes, and revealed his thin frame. A gust of wind made him shiver. Though it was summer, the river breeze was chilly. Still, he couldn’t worry about that now. He was about to jump into the water to wash up when he noticed something unusual. Floating among the water weeds was a corpse, draped in golden clothing that glimmered faintly in the moonlight, like a giant fish washed ashore. "Someone drowned?" Qin Tian immediately leapt into the water and dragged the person to shore. "No breath. Dead for sure?" He placed his fingers under the man’s nose, feeling for breath. The body was covered in wounds, and his chest was scorched black as if struck by lightning—a terrifying sight. The man wore luxurious silk robes, clearly from a wealthy family. Qin Tian's eyes shifted to the bulge in the man’s chest pocket, and a sly grin crept across his face. "A gentleman treasures wealth but takes it righteously, while a scoundrel simply takes it," he muttered. Superstitions about ill fortune no longer mattered in such desperate times. Poverty was the real curse. Without a second thought, he reached into the corpse’s pocket and pulled out an intricately crafted box. Suddenly, the corpse’s hand moved and grabbed Qin Tian’s right hand with an iron grip. His eyes shot open, and with a furious glare, he bellowed, "Thief! Prepare to die!" "Zombie!" The sudden turn of events nearly scared Qin Tian out of his wits. Panicking, he kicked the man’s head as hard as he could. A sickening c***k echoed—the sound of a bone breaking. "Let’s see you talk now." He grumbled, but to his astonishment, the man opened his mouth again: "Young man, fate has brought us together at the moment of my return to life..." "Not dead?" Qin Tian froze, feeling the crushing grip on his hand. He readied another kick, but the man said calmly, "I am already dead. Do not be alarmed." "Dead people don’t talk! Do you take me for a fool?" He kicked again. "Is this what they call greed leading to trouble?" The ornate box, with its intricate gold-embroidered patterns, was clearly valuable. If the contents were half as precious as the exterior, it would fetch a fortune. Rules of survival: strike while they’re down. More kicks wouldn’t hurt. And even if someone reported this, who would trace it back to him? Yet, oddly, no matter how hard he kicked, the man didn’t seem to feel any pain. "With your low-level skills, you couldn’t hurt a single hair on my head. Were it not for my shattered foundation, a mere thought could destroy your soul." Qin Tian hesitated, realizing this wasn’t some trick. He shifted tactics, adopting a respectful tone. "Senior, please forgive my earlier disrespect. I acted in panic. I beg your pardon." "Enough, enough. Time is short. Let’s get to the point." "Do you wish to become my disciple?" "Your disciple?" Qin Tian blinked, sneering inwardly. "Worship a dead man as my master? What could I possibly gain from that?" "Plenty. Imagine possessing supreme martial arts, endless elixirs. All will be yours if you become my disciple." Before Qin Tian could answer, a system notification appeared in his mind: "Accept Cang Tianji’s request. Apprenticeship reward: 1,000 experience points, 100 Qi power, 10 survival points." Such generous rewards for a simple agreement? How could he refuse? Without hesitation, Qin Tian knelt and kowtowed. "Master above, please accept your disciple’s respect!" "Good, good..." Though Cang Tianji’s face remained expressionless, his voice betrayed his excitement. "Apprenticeship successful. Rewards granted: 1,000 experience, 100 Qi power, 10 survival points." "This task was too easy, and the rewards are amazing!" "You are now my 1,089th disciple. The future revival of the Tianji Sect rests upon your shoulders..." "Revival? Let’s talk about benefits first." Cang Tianji seemed to notice Qin Tian’s greed. "Ambition and greed suit you well. The Tianji Sect holds countless treasures. Reclaim the sect’s leadership, and everything will be yours." "You must be joking! If I, a commoner, have no hope against your thousand disciples, how could I possibly vie for the position of sect leader?" "By mastering the Dragon Elephant Void Sutra and breaking into the Heavenly Realm, none in the sect could match you. Present the sect token, and all will yield." "You reclaim my position, and I have but two requests: kill Long Xiaotian and destroy the Wanmo Sect." A new mission flashed before Qin Tian’s eyes. It was of a level he had never seen before—SSS...a super task! In all his seven years of gaming, he had never encountered an SSS-level quest. Yet here it was, promising unimaginable rewards. Without hesitation, he mentally accepted. Cang Tianji’s voice grew darker. "Long Xiaotian betrayed the sect, colluding with Wanmo Sect to steal the Dragon Elephant Void Sutra. Destroy him, and the sect’s treasures will be yours. If your conscience remains, revive me with divine power, and I shall reveal a secret beyond your wildest dreams." Though the story sounded like a tired revenge plot, Qin Tian had no choice but to play along. Even if he wanted to help, he had no power now. The road to vengeance seemed impossibly long. But for now, he would seize whatever benefits he could. He had nothing to lose.
